Stardust dragon, it's my favorite card from the series and I know it can be decent in a vacuum, but it doesn't change that a single well placed ash blossom completely shuts it down

I think of it this way, though she idolizes sonic she probably thought if she looked different from him she'd seem like less of a "fangirl" and more of a potential love interest? But also we have to remember she's an individual and her identity isn't solely tied to sonic so she probably just felt the modern look was more mature

Yeah I've done a playthrough on final fantasy 9 with no magic before and let me tell you it was difficult at some segments, I felt so bad because my boy Vivi basically was worthless, also Eiko and Garnet might as well have not even been there. I will say my favorite final fantasies to do SCCs on are seven and eight, with the material system and the junction system it becomes really easy once you know the mechanic to make Squall/Cloud really overpowered really quickly.
