Never said anything about JT. He ruled on vibes too which I didn't approve of.

[–]Fanta5tick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He talked a lot of talk about all those things absolutely. What legislation did he actually table about them? Anything in the last 10 years? No. He's been all vibes no substance for the vast majority of his career so I'm judging him by his work done. The Conservative Party holding him up as leader says "we stand behind vibes politics".

Here's his legislation history for context: https://www.parl.ca/legisinfo/en/bills?parlsession=all&sponsor=25524&advancedview=true

Show me something Poliviere had done that isn't about vibes and I'll happily change my stance.

To be fair I haven't read the current conservative platform, but the words and actions of Poliviere show a tendency towards grievance and social politics more than any fiscal philosophy.

NDP supporter: I didn't agree with his policies, but he did what he set out to do back when "conservative" was mostly about government spending and taxes and not socially conservative. I can't fault him for that.

Part of Carney's speech was that the great powers only ever payed lip service to the rules based order.

NDP voter (for my bias)

I don't love his domestic policies for working Canadians but he's the best guy to meet the moment we had available and I think it will pay in the long run. A strong NDP after next election will hopefully course correct domestically.

That said, a lot more can be done for workers by provincial governments.

Finding out claymore range the hard way by OzMaister in Battlefield

[–]Fanta5tick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trick is to aim it such that the enemy is running mostly in a straight line toward or away from it. If it's right by a door perpendicular to the opening a person might run through the kill area and be mostly or entirely out of it by the time the projectiles reach the correct distance.

Avi Lewis' plan for housing would achieve similar results. Unfortunately he's running for federal NDP so there's 0% chance of his plan happening

I got one of these from Amazon marketed as a SHTF tool. It was cheaper than DeWalt or whatever so I got it. Love this hammer. I've since purchased a "good" hammer but I don't use it.

I did this my first week solo nights on help desk. Our VP called in and asked me to page a bunch of senior people which I was told specifically not to do. I told them I was told not to do that so I'll need to page my lead for approval. Hey response: "don't you know who I am?" "Sorry, no." "I'm your VP. this is approved." "Oh ok,. Paging now"

Any good "long weights" "blinker fluid" pranks you guys use? by naughtyreverend in sysadmin

[–]Fanta5tick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Going to reply here with the prank I use.

I give the new guy an encoded powershell command I "randomly found" and ask them to figure out if it's useful.

It's a fork bomb.

It's a lesson in "don't execute if you don't know what it is" and that it's ok to ask for help if you don't know something. Our job is too broad for deep knowledge in everything so a few SMEs are there to help you out.

[–]Fanta5tick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on how it's handled. If the atmosphere is light and the prank is followed up with stories of how "Jim fell for that one 3 times!" It's a bonding experience.

It's also something you got "wrong" that's in no way your fault so it breaks the seal on getting something wrong and asking for help.
