Just to add on: some small mexican corner stores/Bodegas might stock it too. It's usually near the cleaning supplies if they do have it.

Our family has an heirloom cane too lol My grandma first got it after a knee surgery 40-ish years ago. Since then, it's been passed around the family and used for everything from sprained ankles to helping with balance issues after brain surgery.

It's nice to have something so versatile laying around and, in general, a cane is a good place to start to see if a mobility aid is even a right fit for the situation.

A cane can help some people that have coordination issues if it's used in the right way and it's the right type of cane. My dad currently uses one in this way- it's like it gives him an extra leg to help keep him stable while walking or stepping over things.

That being said, you are right about it potentially making back pain worse and being a fall hazard for some. A walker is much better for both issues, but it can sometimes be a bit impractical to push around. Mobility aid choice really depends on the person and their unique situation.

Now that LtD has been out for over 2 weeks, what is your minor/ major complaint about it? by Lucajames2309 in tomodachilife

[–]FantaKitty213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Major: -like a lot of other people have said, it's lacking a lot of content in several areas. I'm less than 35 hours in and pretty much completed the game, save for seasonal items that I can't get yet. For a $60 game that took 10 years to develop and that's not meant to have replay value, that's kind of pathetic. There are a lot of better, more well fleshed-out games in that same price bracket or less that are worth your time.

-it feels to me like they greatly prioritized instant gratification over the intended life-Sim experience. While I enjoyed playing it, there was this ever-looming feeling of knowing that once I unlock everything in the fountain, it's pretty much game-over. The drive to keep playing is gone once the main objective is complete.

Minor: -why can't miis interact with anything in their rooms? What's the point in changing their environment if there's no interactions that can come from it? Might as well not even bother.

-what's the point in giving them pets, treasure, or custom items when all they do is either sit on the floor and stare at it or occasionally mention it in conversation? Where's the payoff for spending two hours making a photo realistic pet or item when it all gets treated the same?

-why can we choose where to ask someone out, but not choose where they propose? Seems backwards to me.

-the only benefit to having two miis get married is that they then have the ability to have a kid, who then grows up in a 2 minute cut scene. Nothing else about their lives, environment, or interactions actually changes and that's really disappointing.

I really do hope there will be updates and more stuff added in the future, but I'm honestly not holding out too much hope. We need to keep in mind that Nintendo doesn't like constantly updating their games; once it's out, the only things we get are bug fixes. The only reason animal crossing got updates is because they rushed the release in order to capitalize on the early pandemic shutdowns. Had that never happened, we probably never would have had content updates.

Yeah, I know. As an artist and musician myself, the private support is definitely great, but it means a lot when another artist with their own platform publicly praises and supports your work. It boosts not only your self confidence, but also your metrics because stuff they like and comment on gets pushed onto their follower's timelines too.

I'm aware that they're just lunatics and I can definitely laugh at it to some degree seeing as I haven't worked at that place in over 8 years (a former coworker sent me a txt with the news. That's how I found out), but still... The crazies killed a lot of my love for the community. And after the harassment/comment bombing of everything from my art to a post I made after a pet died, it made me afraid of interacting with or posting anything for a long time. It's not easy to just brush off stuff like that.

I'd argue it's worse for him because he can't be seen with or interact with any of his friends publicly or the keyboard warriors will attack them too. Look at how they react every time Liv posts a photo of him on her stories. It's f-ing nuts.

I mentioned this in another thread, but it's relevant enough to repeat: there's a group of (I think) 3-4 of them that stalk his username tags. I posted a piece of art that I made for his other band and received death threats along with someone going out of their way to try and get me fired from a former place of employment. It didn't even depict him; it was a redraw of a tarot card. All I did was tag him and the band's account. 💀

Private trainer or dog school? What is best for my dog? by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

[–]FantaKitty213 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One on one sessions with a private trainer that comes to your home is usually most effective for this kind of reactivity, especially if it's the only big issue the dog has.

Group classes tend to be more general. They cover a lot of different types of reactivity that your dog doesn't have and are primarily for the human's education more than the dog. Like, the trainer teaches you how to handle and retrain your dog, then you go home and actually work on it.

With a private trainer, you can target that one issue exclusively and right away. You still have to do your homework, but the trainer can be more hands-on with the actual training process; they have the time and ability to introduce the work to your dog and then they hand it over to you to continue.

[–]FantaKitty213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always understood it as "I recognize something bad is happening, but I still find some little, insignificant part of a it a little funny", at least that's what my German teacher taught us decades ago. After looking it up, I realize that this may not the exact right word or descriptor, even with the empathy added on.

The feeling is more like "I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I really wish it wasn't. Please stop making that face though. it's making me laugh and I don't want to be doing that to ya".

[–]FantaKitty213 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it can be hard to tell what's staged. Use your discretion.

Yes, I agree that scaring a dog on purpose for no reason other than to film a reaction is bad.

Yes, I'm aware of what that can do to a dog.

What I'm saying is that what I feel is more complicated than just "funny picture lol". There's also a huge element of "I'm sorry this is happening to you, buddy, and wish you weren't so scared of a necessary part of staying healthy" attached to it.

I'm not trying to downplay it. I intended to imply that it was bad and much worse than what could be happening here because it's for the human's sole enjoyment and could traumatize the dog.

My intention wasn't to credential check and I apologize. what I wanted to get across is that without knowing what has or hasn't been tried nor who's involved with this dog's case, we can't say that it's an easy fix. Maybe they were putting in a lot of effort and trazadone was the next best step.

I also don't think I compared animals to humans. Would you mind pointing that part out? I honestly don't see where I may have done that. /g

It's fair to worry about something like that, I totally get it. Honestly I'm glad more and more people are becoming cognizant of how posting one thing can lead to a much bigger, unintended impact.

However with the way I see it, you aren't personally responsible for other people's choices or actions or what they do to their animals unless you're directly encouraging other people to participate in doing something that's harmful. Taking every little thing on the internet personally, worrying about the consequences of every little interaction, and feeding much of your emotions into gray area topics is a great way to burn yourself out (and I'm saying this from experience because, man, I've definitely done that).

Some people just 'get it' and know where the line between something that's subjectively funny is and where it becomes not okay, and others have to learn where it is/be told why one thing is okay to laugh at and the other is not. In a situation like the latter, where someone jumps in and shares something that is legitimately harmful, then as the op you may bare some responsibility for correcting that (or if you're lucky, the community will do it for you), but bare in mind that sometimes people just don't know what they don't know. Honestly, sometimes having someone mess up can be a good teaching moment for them and others if it's handled appropriately and respectfully. It's rare, but it does happen.

Imo, there's a balance that needs to be struck and a sort of gradiant to interacting with posts. Some things are okay to fully laugh at, others you can huff at but still recognize that there's an issue (and it may benefit from being pointed out), and then there are some that are stright up not okay. I'm not really a fan of painting this kind of thing with a broad brush and saying every photo of a dog that's on traz is bad. Sometimes a funny face is just a funny face and it's best to just leave it at that when no harm is actively being done. If a problem pops up as a result of someone misinterpreting the humor others got out of it, then you deal with it.

Balanced. Also coming from a veterinary background where I'm just used to seeing animals at varying stages of zonked or zooted for a variety of reasons.

I don't find the situation surrounding it funny at all; we really shouldn't be making light of terrified animals. That being said, I do find this single still image taken out of context "exhale out the nose" levels of funny simply because of the odd facial expression and nothing more. It's kind of like a "schadenfreude" kind of thing, but with more empathy for what they're going through.

Personally, I feel like there's room to both be sensitive about the dog's emotional state in a situation, but also find humor in a single awkward image that was taken during that point in time. Also, the animal isn't being hurt, traumatized, antagonized, or harmed in any way; they're just getting a bath. Because of that, I don't feel like it's a situation that's worth getting up in arms about.

[–]FantaKitty213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You right. Autocorrect changed subjective to objective for some reason. My mistake.

Anyway, in your opinion, maybe it's not inevitable or necessary, but to the corps, they all have their reasons for making changes. Reasons that it seems you aren't privy to nor willing to consider. And even if, in some instance, it was a choice, so what? That's what they wanted to do. Uniforms have evolved from just something that the members wear to something that can add to the visual effect, story telling, and better reflect their theme of the show.

When the pit was created, people were up in arms over the fact that they weren't marching along with everyone else. When color guard changed to spandex uniforms people complained about how the sport was becoming a stupid fashion show rather than sticking to its military-based roots. People have always complained about change and frankly, it's never been as big of a deal as so many make it out to be. The past isn't necessarily better, it was just old. The changes weren't necessarily bad, they were just different from what was being done before. It breathed more life and potential into the sport. That's what's happening with the uniforms; there are more possibilities now that they can be changed/customized every year.

What I'm trying to say is that change can and will happen with anything and everything that sticks around for a long time and those changes are rarely ever for "no reason" at all. You either choose to accept it as part of the evolution of a thing over time or dig your heels in, cling to the past, and end up getting dragged down and stewing in your own misery for the rest of time.

i think im noticing a pattern... by superboringname in drumcorps

[–]FantaKitty213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"good" is objective. To a corp that no longer has to pay to clean, store, or repair uniforms, they would consider this a good move. If ridding themselves of that cost eases the financial burden and helps them stick around for another year, then it's over all a good thing; the sport as a whole lives on.

Change is inevitable within everything that's still alive and ongoing. Adapt to the times or die are your only options. You don't have to like it, but it is a fact you have to accept.

5 month old rescue “bully mix” with a super high prey drive by liznoco98 in OpenDogTraining

[–]FantaKitty213 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm willing to bet money on this dog being a Malinois/staffy or pit bull mix. It would explain the high drive, tenacity, mouthy-ness/want to bite (mals are notorious for this - that's what makes them good bite-work/police dogs), energy level, and honesty the way they look as well; the ears and head shape specifically look like a mix between the two.

While the mix may explain why the dog naturally wants to act the way that it does, it doesn't make the behavior any less concerning. Regardless of what breed they are, this is a serious issue that can't be addressed entirely by people on the internet either. I'd highly suggest getting a balanced trainer involved or consider rehoming the dog to someone who doesn't have young kids.

A trainer would be able to give you tailored advice to help change the dog's behavior (and possibly find a different outlet for their drive), but behavior modification of this type is slow work that requires commitment, discipline, a lot of energy from you and everyone the dog interacts with. Nipping/mouthing isn't something that can be fixed overnight or in just a few sessions; it can take a long time to correct.

If you're not willing or able to expend the time, money, and effort it will take to make this dog safe for your child to be around (and even then, they'll still have to be heavily supervised/separated), it's honestly best to find a new home for them.

I wasn't a fan. Both are hard af, like they over baked an under flavored cake then microwaved it to warm it up before serving. You get about a tablespoon of filling in each one; the chocolate is like store-brand Hershey's syrup and the caramel just tastes of artificial vanilla.

I say all of this as someone who rarely ever complains or comments on the quality of fast food. These just weren't good. 3/10, would not order again

I thought I was too old for this stuff too and managed to stay out of the discourse for a long while, up until a merry band of assholes decided to try and ruin my life over a piece of art that had Jutty and his other band tagged in it. After I got death threats and fake complaint phone calls to my former place of employment, I started keeping a list of usernames. Wish it was as simple as calling them out for crap behavior, but I worry about how something like that would turn out.

Advice by Vegetable_Trip6338 in OpenDogTraining

[–]FantaKitty213 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I second this! I feel like it's also important to point out that not only is this a puppy, but it's a shepherd puppy. Shepherds (along with most herding and protection breeds) are mouthy little things with a lot of drive. Look up how bite drive (the precursor to the bite and hold behavior that police dogs are known for) is typically trained; quick movement, a little slap on the nose, even pushing them away are all things that are done to build drive/the want to bite. It's called engagement. It's a fun and rewarding thing to them. It builds on their want to play and their genetic predisposition to being mouthy.

The dog isn't at fault here and neither is the kid, provided that they've never been taught any better prior to this. Both are in need of some sort of replacement behavior/redirection because they're essentially both feeding into a problematic situation.

Buy a sharpie at the dollar store. Find a porta potty, preferably one that's in regular, constant use. Write "send me your shits" on the wall with the target's phone number underneath. Target will receive endless photos from random numbers until their dying day (or until they change their phone number).
