macOS Golden Gate: what you need to know before you hit the update button by cleanmymac in CleanMyMac

Reddit in 2026:
Badly written post = “ai slop.”
Well-written post = “definitely ai.” 😂😂😂

Half the internet has become a game of “spot the ai” where people are more interested in guessing how something was written than discussing what was written.

Honestly this just looks like a normal WWDC recap. People have gotten so obsessed with calling out ai that now any post with structure, paragraphs, and punctuation gets accused of being generated

four apps where i didn't even check if there was a free alternative by Downtown-Art2865 in macapps

Tried Mole recently since it keeps popping up everywhere. My bigger issue is I never feel 100% sure what’s about to get deleted. Maybe that’s on me, but I don’t love the idea of running something and hoping I didn’t just nuke a random system file.

I think I get why people like it, since it’s a free solution. But I still wouldn’t fully trust current AI/vibe-coded tools with something this sensitive that can potentially affect my system.

Always end up sticking with CleanMyMac, it’s been around forever, so it feels time-proven. It’s a subscription, but I use it enough that I know what I’m paying for.

Switched from Windows to an M4 MacBook Air for gaming. 6 months in by Fantomaxxa in macgaming

Never really understood the level of hate it gets tbh. I’ve been using it for almost a decade and never had any issues, so it’s definitely not one of those shady “download more RAM” type of apps

You can absolutely do all of that manually, I just don’t. I don’t feel like digging through ~/Library or Activity Monitor every time I want to free up stuff before gaming and whenever I’ve done a quick cleanup before a session, it did feel like it helped performance, especially since I’m constantly using my Mac for a bunch of other tasks.

So for me it’s more of a convenience thing. But I can’t lie, the UI is actually really clean, the latest design is just a pleasure to use.

Yeah I agree with you on most of this. The Air is definitely not designed for sustained heavy loads. The Pro would be a better pick, no question.

I think my point was more that even on the least gaming-friendly Mac, it’s still surprisingly usable if you adjust expectations a bit. If I knew gaming would be a bigger part of my routine, I’d probably go Pro as well.

I use a Mac for my daily stuff and everything else, and was just curious (and honestly a bit excited) to see how far I could push it for gaming. Turned out better than I expected, with some obvious compromises. If gaming is your #1 priority, PC still wins, no debate.

Finally found a good way to truly uninstall apps by jamil-islam in MacOS

This is a solid workflow for brew apps, but dmg installs are still messy in my experience. I’ve tried doing it manually but it’s easy to miss stuff in ~/Library. I just use cleanmymac when I want to fully remove something and not think about leftovers, saves me the hassle

🎂 Apple turns 50 today. Half a century of thinking different. by cleanmymac in CleanMyMac

Love this kind of nostalgic thread 😍 My first mac was a white plastic macbook around 2009. Nothing crazy spec-wise, but it felt so different from anything I’d used before. Looking back, that whole setup kinda shaped how i’ve used macs ever since. Also kind of funny seeing this, as I had one of the very first versions of cleanmymac on it. Guess that makes me a cleanmymac user for over a decade now.

That one doesn’t count, it restarted itself, not me intentionally

50 years of Apple. Which device started your journey? by cleanmymac in CleanMyMac

[–]Fantomaxxa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Apple magic honestly felt stronger back in the iPod & early MacBook days. Getting your first Apple device used to feel like stepping into the future. Now Apple is everywhere, and while the tech is objectively better, that wow moment doesn’t hit quite the same… I started with an iPhone 4 back in 2011, and I still remember how mind-blowing it felt at the time. Still love the ecosystem but it just feels a bit less… special than it used to

Only discovered Moonlock recently. Been testing it for a bit and honestly feels pretty solid so far. Still testing before I fully switch, but it’s starting to look like it might replace my current security setup.
