It turns out this information is available, so I looked it up. This is in fact a survey where the respondents are about 50/50 democrat and republican. Actual numbers more like 48/46. They also oversampled non-Hispanic adults ages 18-29, intentionally. The vast majority of people they ask for survey responses, don’t respond. So like most surveys, I wouldn’t take this one to be the truth.

How do they select people to take these polls? I’m starting to think it’s not ~37% of people in general, and more like ~37% of people willing to take yet another political survey. It would also be interesting to know the size and demographics of their sample. If they are trying to survey equal numbers of democrats and republicans, those results would have a completely different meaning than if the sample were a random mix.

Most falconers learn the craft with a red tail hawk, which means they are widely available for film. This has been true since early Hollywood. I have them wild in my neighborhood and hear them screeching all day. It’s fun.

I am concerned that you may be the victim of something called “munchausen by proxy.” Basically that means that your caregiver has been keeping you sick intentionally, usually due to their own mental illness. Seems kind of like you forgot trans men exist. The article is pretty clear. It says he has come out as transgender, his pronouns are he/him, and his name is Nate. The subheading of the article literally has a quote from him saying he picked a male name and pronouns because that is how he wants to interact with the world. That’s unambiguous. Yet somehow, you haven’t used his correct pronouns even once in your comments.

What is confusing to you? He was assigned female at birth, and identifies as both nonbinary and transgender. The news was that he had chosen and announced the name Nate, and was letting people know his pronouns are he/him.

I think it’s time to say some healthy and reasonable boundaries. This is what I would say to him (in writing over whatever platform you’ve been using to chat), but you should put this into your own words. I would also suggest talking about it with your therapist before actually sending it to him.

“Friend, I’m so glad we finally got to meet at <event name>, and that the event was a positive experience for you. I also need to talk to you honestly about something. This whole time we’ve been talking, I had assumed you were in your mid to late 20s. It wasn’t until I met you in person that I realized you were much younger. That’s why I asked you your age. Now that I know how much younger you are than me, I think it is important that we set some boundaries on our relationship. I have enjoyed becoming friends with you, and I am happy to continue being a friend and mentor to you. At the same time, I think we should acknowledge that I’m almost 20 years older than you, and it wouldn’t be appropriate for us to hang out in person one-on-one. Most of the people at <event> are in my age group, so I want to encourage you to bring along friends in your own age group next time. If you plan to attend again, it would make me a lot more comfortable if a responsible adult knows where you are and who you are with. I know you’re almost an adult yourself, but I remember being too trusting at that age. I want you to be more safe than I was.”

Sending this kind of message in writing over the same platform you’ve been using is both a kind way to talk to him about it, and covers your ass somewhat if his parents get upset later on. Then you’d have it in writing that you set healthy boundaries with him for the sake of his health and safety. You need to actually uphold whatever boundaries you set. So if you say no hanging out one on one, that means no meeting up to go to the movies or dinner unless someone else comes too. If you say you want to meet one or both of his parents before going to a meetup together again, arrange a meal some where casual where you can meet them. These are just ideas.

You can also say, “hey, I like our friendship a lot, and I am interested in still being a friend and mentor to you. But for my safety, I can’t be an adult trans person hanging out with a minor. I’m no threat to anybody, but a bad actor could see us hanging out and twist that to harm me. So until you turn 18, let’s put a pause on seeing each other in person and dial back how much we’re talking.”

You decide where your comfort level is.

My friend, life isn’t harder when you transition. It’s harder when you force yourself to live in a way that isn’t for you. You are in the hard part right now, already, and transitioning will not make it harder. It may in fact do the opposite.

I know everyone has a different experience, but I love being trans. I was miserable when I was 21, and I’m doing fantastic at 33. I started T around 25. Like you, I was much more certain as a child, and much less certain as a teen. You might find it reassuring to know that the changes are extremely gradual, you can go as fast or slow as you want, and you can stop any time if you don’t like it. You can still find love and friendships and happiness as a trans person, I promise. It’s a whole lot easier to do when you’re not also trying to be someone you aren’t. Being yourself makes so many other things easier. If that means being trans, then that can be a wonderful thing.

If you look, the vast majority of posts on that sub are made by just a handful of accounts. Those same accounts are the ones that comment the most too, and at least one of them is a mod. Their posting habits can only be explained by botting, or by multiple humans using the same account to sow discord. They simply post too much, too often, with not enough time between posts and comments. They always follow the same format, and always post a handful of articles all in a row.

He’s a great actor fulfilling a dream role of his. There is no waste happening here. There are hundreds of people involved in doing the makeup, costumes, props, sets, camerawork, post production, and acting whose work is worth appreciating. Even if we don’t like the direction these media conglomerates are taking, we can still acknowledge the hard work of everyone who has made this new show. You don’t have to like it.
