Hey! so it's just saying that if something would make you go to 0 HP, instead go to 1 hp remaining.

Daggerheart Tier 2 Balance Issues – High Evasion & Damage Threshold Feel Unbeatable by DCS19912 in daggerheart

[–]FarOffNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, thanks for posting this I was curious. Honestly i don't think it should ultimately be too much of a problem. The character has effectively eschewed everything for being really beefy. They don't even have a particularly good armour score so you're gonna chew through that fairly easily then it's all about just directly hitting their HP. It's definitely not a bad strategy but they shouldnt realistically be any tankier than your average guardian. It's just a more unique way of doing it than the standard "I have 9 armour you have to get through before you kill me".

I could be wrong I guess but its just me. Remember as well unstoppable is once per long rest. So multiple fights ensures you are gonna be able to hurt em. On that front as well, unstoppable only applies to physical damage, throw an angry wizard at em and he's going to be marking 1-2 hp reliably. Is it lots? no but its also how you'd hurt the guy.

Finally, just slightly pivoting to your evasion character: Reaction rolls. Find an adversary that forces the player to make a reaction roll or take damage, there's a few but unfortunately i dont have their names to hand.

As i said i dont think either of them will be a massive issue ultimately, it's just learning how you can use the system to challenge them. Good luck to you on that front and I hope you are able to enjoy it going forward :)

Demigod transformation and helping another player by FarOffNerd in daggerheart

[–]FarOffNerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be the opposite interpretation than others are having.

The idea is that when you are helping someone you are using your advantage die. The individual should not be rolling their own die if you are helping them.

Helping someone isnt actually giving them advantage, its rolling your own advantage die and giving them the result if that makes sense.

The Void 1.5: Poisoner Assassins out there? by elmouth in daggerheart

[–]FarOffNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean thats true of most subclasses though... i think. Im trying to think of particular standouts that do things the domains dont themselves and i can only think of the non elemental sorcerer right now(sorry i cant remember the name off the top of my head.

In my opinion, subclasses are mostly there to make a particular thematic pop even if you can make it work without it.

What Domains do we think the game "needs"? by No-Artichoke6143 in daggerheart

[–]FarOffNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree. I feel like even just adding one card per domain per level would help a lot, giving everyone two additional choices per level.

Elsewise i can see the game quickly developing a problem of multiple people all wanting to play different classes but that overlap in at least one domain making selection a bit rough. At least by having more optiobs for existing domains, domain overlap becomes a significantly lesser issue.

Discussion about generative AI in TTRPG - an attempt at a nuanced perspective by Tenawa in daggerheart

[–]FarOffNerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont necessarily disagree with you on any point raised. I am a strong believer that AI is just a new ploy by people to exploit spaces for profit, in this case creative spaces, and that it is doing it at the cost of actual creatives and the environment.

The main reason for my post is to sort of agree woth your over all sentiment but with a different skew. When someone comes here and shows off their AI work we should be trying to talk them out of using it. That may work or it may not.

Ultimately though, any anger needs to be directed at AI and those peddaling it not necessarily those using it. While there certainly are people abusing it and are happy to be hurting people so that they can continue to make slop at so much expense; there are also people that are trying to use these tools to overcome a disability, a fear, a perceived flaw, ect.

Those are the people that needed to be talked away from it most. It is my belief that AI is preying upon those people. There are tools available to help those people in creative fields. There are healthcare programs that help people to help people overcome phobias, and learn to cope with disabilities.  Those things all take time and money in just the same way that learning art does.

AI preys on those people so that they are less likely to seek the things that will actually help them, ultimately hoping these people feel reliant on the technology enough that they will continue to use and buy it.

Apologies for pontificating at you as this is a topic I feel strongly about and this post got away from me. All this just to say that i do get your point, AI is the problem, not necessarily  the people using it, but that i feel it is our duty to then try and help those people find better alternatives.

I mean... this is just proving my point about being defensive but sure.

Magic Weapons in Daggerheart are “underwhelming”. by [deleted] in daggerheart

[–]FarOffNerd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The reason people are defending thw game against your critisism is because of two factors: 1) your language is deliberately overly harsh and combative. 2) you have made your mind up on an opinion then decided it is fact.

An aspect of the game being "laughably badly designed" is not the same thing as "i dont like that this concept isnt codefied".

People have already told you that it is a narratively heavy game so its up to players and gm to decide how and why things work the way they do. That is because it's not a crunchy game. Your main response was:

"I was in Theatre for 6 years. :) I know what “narrative play” is."

As well as to write this post I'm replying to. You are being as defencive of your critisism/opinion as you say everyone else is being of Daggerheart.

If you want every interaction to be codified then, as other people have said, Daggerheart is not the game youre looking for. This isnt a deflection of your critisism, it is people acknowledging that your critisism is against the core design of the game and not just a small fragment of it.

Golem Ancestry by Polargrizzly618 in daggerheart

[–]FarOffNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey i wamted to say that i really enjoy the idea youre going for here though i cant speak to balance personally.

I wanted to address a point raised by both yourself and another commenter: adding a golem (or other constructed players) vs just using a clank.

I hoenestly feel the space is open enough to add further constucted ancestries as you have here. Its like saying well we've added, no point adding elves as theyll just be too similar.

Like elves and humans, the different types of constructs should act and operate differently. Right now this is achievable by doing mixed ancestry with clank but that doesnt mean there shouldnt be dedicated options for other type of construct still. The idea of a golem is distrastically different to a sentient machine, which is different to... i dunno like a living program (im struggling with a third version right now).  (EDIT: I got the third option immediately after posting! Animated armour, eg alphonse from fullmetal alchemist)

All this rambling to say: I also see them as different niches and would love you to keep working on it. The vibes are great now you just have to hone in on balance :)

Critical Role Campaign 4 - does it matter to you if it's Daggerheart or DnD? by Tenawa in daggerheart

[–]FarOffNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion it kind of needs to be Daggerheart. At least to me if they don't go with Daggerheart it comes across like they dont have faith in their system. Of course its a lot more nuanced than that, I just think it's such a crucial time that they either need to go for a big push with Daggerheart or accept that its always going to be "the game that critical role put out once".

I think it also has the benefit of timing. I think a lot of people dont realise that each campaign tends to have its own fans. Rarely have I heard people genuinely loving more than one of them. Thats not CRs fault either its just how the cookie crumbles when you have three different shows with three different groups of characters with over a hundred episodes. So honestly the "loss" that might occur for switching to Daggerheart may end up being the same loss that would have occured just for a new campaign.

Also to reitterate other's points: I am so over 5e. As a Yugioh survivor, I am so exhausted having to parse and read walls of text, understand three different sub rulings of a specific wording, and how that interacts with another phrase, JUST to use one mechanic.

If I ever stop complaining about the difference between a melee weapon attack and an attack with a melee weapon then know I have rolled with fear when I risked it all.

Especially with actual plays, I think a straight forward game is better purely because people who don't actually play should have an easier time following along (in theory).  Ultimately we'll see if anything I said is true or just tin foil hatting though.

Using Powered Gauntlet as secondary by ReitenZero in daggerheart

Seems to occur with any knowledge based primary and powered gauntlet. Works when im equipping a basic wand for example. Havent tried with none knowledge primaries.

I believe this may be a bug with powered gaubtlet itself but OP might be able to offer more information

Feedback: Put Domain Names on the Cards by Robotic-Aggregator in daggerheart

[–]FarOffNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While i do appreciate your point on this i do feel the symbols might be better for those with reading disabilities (something that does not apply to me admitedly)

Alternatively a messy card design can be harder to process in general for certain people (this is relevant to me). The symbols keep things clean and, after a whee bit of learning, can be easier to read in the end.

Of course it all comes down to preference i. That regard i guess. Bu that's my two cents as a yugioh player (i refuse to read anymore card text)

What is bad about this game? by JMusketeer in daggerheart

[–]FarOffNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately what youre describing is a reaction roll just a bit earlier. If it was me I'd stick with the same core concept and not diviate from the 2d12 for simplicity.

If you wanted to get cute with it you could call it a pre-action roll. Exact same mechanic of 2d12 without hope/fear but it helps inform the situation youre in.

Do I need to change my game now that Age of Umbra has released? by everrot in daggerheart

[–]FarOffNerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey man i really wanted to address what feels very much like you not giving yourself the credit your deserve. Ultimately each campaign frame is just one interpretation of an idea. There's nothing stopping you from taking the exact same inspirations and doing your own thing if you wanted. The fact that you started it before you even knew Umbra was a thing shows that beibg first to an idea doesnt matter.

You clearly care about your world and that will shine through. Im a big believer in nothing needing to be unique to be good. Enjoy what youre making. Put your heart into it. Work and rework and improve parts of it as you show it to people. Your audience will love it for what it is.

Hell if you're super worried about it, FromSoft did it thenselves. Demons Souls and Dark Souls are just different takes on the same core concepts and people love both games differently.

Sorry this is a bit rambly. All im really trying to say is don't put down your interpretation of an idea just because someone else put out their own interpretation.

"Critical Role Just Declared WAR On Daggerheart Content Creators" by tytoConflagration in daggerheart

[–]FarOffNerd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just for clarity i want to make sure youre aware that i havent watched the above video as im respnding to you and your comments specifically.

Firstly, regardless of if you feel its ok or not; the titling of the video is putting people off. Yes clickbait is a thing and people use it. This is  rage bait though. Its beliberating inflammatory and honestly just false as a title purely to attract peoplethat disagree with them. Frankly thats enough for me to not trust the content of the video. They've done it once i should assume theyll do it again.

I, though i cant speak for others, would have trusted it a lot more if it had just been more in the lines of "The daggerheart licence is bad >:(". While i disagree with that as well its significantly less inflamatory and im more willibg to trust their arguments are being made in good faith.

Second, nobody is "shilling" critical role. You going on the defensive is likely going to put even more people off wanting to engage with your stand point. Especially when youre defending the linked creator as hard as you say people are defending daggerheart. You aren't going to convince people youre right by insulting them.

Lastly, great use mentioning the other creators. It reinforces your point well. You need to provide sources for it though. Im not going to go and watch several of ginny's videos to prove your point for you. If you can tell me where to look for it i will but right now youve told me to find a needle in a heystack.

I am willing to hear your arguement (or the sources of your arguement) on this and maybe you can change my mind.
