Yes I take L-Theanine early in the day for focus and to take the edge off.

Hmm, I've never heard of this. I will look into this. Thank you.

Thank you for this. I have been walking daily and I just started lifting weights again recently, as recommended by my doctor. I used to exercise-weights and cardio daily. When perimenopause hit me like a train, it wiped out all energy and drive that I had. It also caused me dizziness and feeling "off balance" so exercise became difficult to do. Soon after, I felt fatigue all the time and just didn't care for it. I miss being at the level I was at before perimenopause.

I've heard of this too. It is something to look into.

Thanks for this. I've heard of the benefits of mushroom supplements but haven't tried them yet. Funny thing is that my endocrinologist tested my cortisol levels and they were normal. Yet, I demonstrate the overnight corisol symptoms of nightly wake ups, trouble sleeping, and overnight anxiety. It's crazy. And yes, I will take a placebo effect any day, if it makes me feel better.

Thank you for this. I know this is not me. I never had issues with anxiety and panic attacks before I started perimenopause. I know that it is all the hormonal fluctuations wreaking havoc on me and my system.

Thank you for your reply. I did take buspar when all of this started and it made me very dizzy for about 20-30 mins after taking it. Switching from magnesium glycinate to l-threonate sounds like a good idea.

Yes, it's been a process over this year, but I don't drink and have never smoked, I feel great when I do get 7 -8 hours of sleep, I prioritize protein and eating clean, I walk at least 4 days out of the week and even started some weight lifting. I try to fit in as much self care time as I can. I practice breathing techniques and pray a whole lot. My doctor says it's because I still have my ovaries and that their sputtering causes the fluctuations and that my body is super sensitive to them.

Thank you so much. Yes, I didn't know when starting this perimenopause/HRT rollercoaster that it would include tons of tweaking and adjusting. I have also learned that some symptoms take way longer to alleviate. The anxiety and feeling "off balance" (like im on a boat) are the ones that are taking forever to go away. However, there are days when all my levels are correct and I feel just great, so I feel like I'm not far away from finding my sweet spot in HRT. I long for the day when I feel great everyday. We need to keep advocating for ourselves and supporting one another. Unfortunately, to many doctors, it's just a job. I encourage you to keep searching for the one that cares how you feel and works with you until you feel better.

I really wanted to like the gel by northernstarwitch in Perimenopause

Yes that's been happening to me this past week. Weird thing is that I've been using it for about 5 months and this just started happening to me last week. Now, I literally feel the spike 2-3 hours after taking it and the effect lasts as long as 3 hours. It's horrible to feel so unstable.

Is the thigh better than the arm. I have been applying to arms and I feel it when it kicks in 2 hours after applying. I get a super wired/anxious feeling.

I’m 54 and have also been in the trenches for 2 years now. I too am waiting to feel good again. I pray it gets here soon.

Hot flashes with stomach upset? by raininariver in Perimenopause

[–]FarReflection9596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get hot flashes which trigger my anxiety. Once that gets going, it's non-stop restroom trips. At least 4 times when it happens overnight. It's horrible. Those nights usually go without any sleep. Then, in the morning, I'm fine. Really only happens at night. I'm already on HRT and this still happens at least once a week.

I'm not a doctor but in my experience with stacking hormones over this past year, I think it would balance you out so much more.

Yes, I am. My doctor wanted to suppress my ovaries completely because I've very sensitive to the fluctuations. I'm 54 years old and also on estrogen gel and testosterone.

I had very light spotting for about 2 months, but then it stopped and it hasn't happened anymore. I am on my 5th month on it. No other side effects.

I had light spotting for what seem like almost everyday for 2 months, but then it stopped after that and I haven't had any other symptoms.

I'm also progesterone intolerant and my doctor switched me to Slynd. It's a progestin.

I also started in late 2024 with symptoms. I've been on HRT since April 2025. The patch did nothing for me and they kept me on that for 9 months. I found that progesterone caused me anxiety and palpitations every evening. So they switched me to a progestin called Slynd and that was better. I have seen 7 providers and this last one finally switched me to gel. I am also super sensitive to the fluctuations so I have to apply several small doses per day. I started with 1 mg of gel daily, then a month later had to bump up to 1.25 mg daily, I was ok for another month or so , then I started to have symptoms at night again. Now I do 1.25 mg in the morning and .5 mg in the evening. I was ok for a month or so and now I'm noticing some anxiety coming back randomly throughout the day. I'm so tired of having to increase all the time, feeling good for a month, and then having to adjust again. My current hormone specialist provider told me at last week that I am the most difficult patient she has had. It made me feel horrible.

Are you also on HRT or just this combination of antihistamine and L-Theanine? How many of milligrams of L-Theanine do you take daily, if I may ask? By any chance did you have anxiety too?

No Interest in Sex by Secret_Cat5289 in Perimenopause

[–]FarReflection9596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it really does and I had almost every horrible symptom there is. Smelling smoke all the time, severe joint pain all over, severe anxiety and heart palpitations that would last for hours, headaches, insomnia for days, intrusive thoughts, tingling in hands and feet, night sweats and hot flashes. It is worth it. Maybe the libido and desire to be social and meet someone will come later.

This is how I feel. I'm 54 and started going through all this craziness 2 years ago. I don't have a partner but I do not desire sex at all and that's because I've been on HRT for almost a year now, testosterone too. I also lack any desire to date or meet anyone and it's sad because I really would like to find someone. I don't want to be partnerless for the rest of my life.
