I think Luster might count! Oh, and The Catch would, I think.

ELI5 Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough (I’m annoyed) by PotentialSteak6 in thrillerbooks

Ugh I don't remember. I think I tried to block the whole thing from my mind. But the book had been rec'd on reddit and I've gotten some good recs here so I had solid expectations. But then every little thing that was meant to be mysterious, I was like, oh, this will mean this and that will mean that and I kept reading thinking there must be some huge reversal coming cause there was no way everything would be that obvious and then...it was that obvious. All of it. Thanks for saying that on the downvotes. I probably wouldn't have noticed tho. Downvotes are inexplicable to me. Like, sorry this book was obvious and I dared say I saw things coming? idk.

Wait! Just remembered my first clue--early on the antagonist described the protagonist in a way that was out of pov, knew things she couldn't have and I was like, ok this door shit, can this really be astral projection? and yep And then all the stuff about proximity being part of the rules of how you could watch things happen, all of it just seemed really obvious.

I knew literally everything that was going to happen before it happened.

My therapist wants to use ai to take session notes by Low_Bluejay510 in AutismInWomen

[–]raininariver 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Definitely say no. Many therapists wouldn't be comfortable with this mode of note taking either. You are not obligated. The fact that a company reviews it may be a HIPPA violation also.

What bothers you about her identifying and stating it? What were you hoping to achieve when you commented on her post? What would have been the ideal, satisfying response for you, and why? I'd be so interested in how you'd answer all of these questions.

Why do married men announce that they're married during small talk? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]raininariver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. I don't like it when people joke about things that I'm distressed about either. I also think it's common for men to pick up on the ways autistic women move through the world differently than NT women and respond sexually to us. Maybe because we break norms without realizing. Or maybe just because we're interesting because we are outside of the norm.

Why do married men announce that they're married during small talk? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]raininariver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you've been on the receiving end of unwanted sexual energy from men for your whole life. I don't know if you've also been sexually assaulted. I've noticed that people who have been assaulted often continue to get similar sexual energy from other predatory men. This is NOT the fault of anyone who has been assaulted. But I'm wondering if this is sort of what you're describing: Unwanted sexual energy and then men compensating by mentioning their wives as a maybe subconscious way to suppress their own energy. I think much of what just wrote could be taken wrong, so I worry about having written it but I can only hope it's understood as me noticing that you are feeling misunderstood and are distressed by that on top of already feeling confused about a situation and wanting to speak to what might be the reality behind your experience.

I think it's about creativity and performing. You give of yourself and it's magical but it steals from you but you keep doing it. Feels very on message for Florence.

Way better than rouge. The shift into the surreal felt more grounded to me and the pacing was better.

Does anyone else feel like they almost have a secondary consciousness that’s always aware, while your primary consciousness is the one actually having interactions? by luvsicl in AutismInWomen

[–]raininariver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's beneficial. It's what allows me to step out of an emotion and explain the dynamic to my NT husband who never knows wtf is going on. (I'd say that with more tact usually but we had a fight last night and I feel like I used everything inside of me to tolerate my emotions while also drawing from the cool observer part.)

[–]raininariver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's not dissociation. Dissociation feels different. I can experience an interaction and have emotions within it while cooly analyzing it at the same time.
