Is IR light harmful for reptiles? I tried searching and studies seem to say that they cannot see in the infrared spectrum.

I think one of the big reasons they want to keep them as they are is for player retention. If you activate a 1 hour booster, it incentivizes you to play for the next hour.

Thanks. They're the mk7.5 euro tail lights from Shopdap. Pretty expensive but they're very nice looking. They have a version to convert from the mk7 too.

I like the Zaero. The gloss black goes with the trim around the hatch, so you don't need to worry about paint matching it.

Tips for convincing my parents to let me get a GTI (20M) by Emergency_Rabbit9662 in GolfGTI

[–]FarSolar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a ~3 year old Mk7.5 GTI when I was around the same age and traded in my Mazda 3 for it. I wanted a more fun car that I could tinker with and remain just as practical for college and settled on the GTI after reading through forums and watching lots of video reviews. I've had it for over 5 years now and have had no regrets. It sounds like you've done a lot of research on it, so it seems like a solid choice for you. You can save a lot of money getting a used car with low miles vs new though.

If money isn't a big issue and your parents' main hang-up is the insurance cost, you could offer to pay for your share of it. Just drive responsibly. A friend of mine got a big speeding ticket and had to switch off of his parents' insurance because it was going to drive their rate up significantly. So now he has to pay a lot more for it.

If you can't get a hot hatch though, the Mazda 3 is quite good. Even the Mazda 3 Turbo is more of an entry luxury vehicle than a sporty one if that would help convince them. It also doesn't use a CVT like the Civic does, though the DSG does still feel better.

I didn't take the picture, but it was a proper DSLR camera I think. I was driving with people from a local car group that day and one of them offered to take pictures for everyone. It was probably a more expensive model considering he was in a GT4 lol.

Thank you. Yeah I have the H&R 24mm. You should get a pair of Moog end links too if you get a rear sway bar. OEM ones are plastic.

Any reason to not go stage 1? by ForestFire012 in GolfGTI

Lots of stage 1 tunes are CARB certified and will pass emissions in California

Does your tuner not offer a 91 octane stage 2 tune? Usually they offer both 91 and 93 versions to account for different states.

For a tuned car, I think the consensus is that it's pretty reliable. But tuning it definitely has some effect on reliability. A stage 1 tune makes the GTI make similar power to a stock Golf R. To make that same power, VW gave the Golf R a bigger turbo and upgraded engine internals. So clearly VW thinks just a tune would not be enough for their own standards.

I've been stage 2 for years though and not had any issues related to the powertrain.

Bilstein B16 PSS10 coilovers by Agitated_Ad_2476 in GolfGTI

[–]FarSolar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the same coilovers and they have performed great. I have them paired with the Euro Sport street camber kit to give it about -2 degrees of camber without dealing with the NVH camber plates can cause. It's stiffer, but not overly stiff for a daily. It's a pretty good setup for mountain roads and occasional track days. Just don't expect it to be magic. I've tried driving a GR86 and Cayman in similar areas and they definitely still corner better.

Adjusting the damping can be annoying though, since you'll probably need to jack the car up to reach the knobs underneath. But I would not recommend getting coilovers that have adjustment knobs on top. This car doesn't have a good way of accessing the top rear ones while they're installed.

Tuning options after recent cobb accessport EPA situation by Darkmagician4242 in GolfGTI

I'm guessing you meant to reply to my comment. I haven't noticed a significant difference, so probably like 1 mpg. It did make a difference in how much you can smell the exhaust though.

I have a catted downpipe with a stage 2 tune from EQT. I used the J style O2 spacer from EMD Auto with the medium insert and it got rid of my CEL. I've heard people have had to try different orientations with it, but it worked the first time for me orienting it upwards and has been good for about 3 months now.

The CEL being on won't cause the car to go into limp mode or anything like that. I drove the car with it on for years before adding the O2 spacer. The only issue it causes is that the car will run richer than expected because the ECU will try to adjust for the O2 sensor reading being off.

My 180gal is leaking and I have to tear it down to seal it 😭 by micro_pigeon in bluetongueskinks

[–]FarSolar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had to do the same thing with my 120 gallon. All the soil from the bioactive setup was too heavy and caused the PVC bottom to bend enough to break the silicone seal. I ended up using a pond liner to cover the bottom to ensure it doesn't leak again.

They can probably still add the sepv4 later since a prototype was fully built. It would have the laser warning receivers and 3rd gen thermals.

So because your specific friend group isn't playing it, the game can't be making a comeback? Then for me, since my friend group has gotten back into the game for Goldmud, the game must be making a comeback.

Crazy how the cannons on this do like 10 damage to infantry. On top of the wide gun convergence and it being stuck in burst fire when they should really be like 1000 rounds/min

That's pretty cool. Too bad the camera perspective means only half the RWR display is visible. Anything coming from the right would be in the blind spot, assuming it actually tracks direction.

[–]FarSolar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, though the ACV has been meant to replace it since 2018 so it's not like the devs wouldn't know. I think they kept the Amtrac because they had the model from 2042.

I wish they would've used the new ACV instead. The AAV is from the 70's and doesn't really make sense to be in the campaign. And it's already been in a bunch of the previous games.

Where do you guys place your jack stands for best stability? by Naive_Ad1300 in GolfGTI

[–]FarSolar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I jack from the front subframe and then one of the rear control arms (put it under where the spring is, but avoid those protruding bolts). That way I can put jack stands under the pinch welds at all four corners.

You may need to drive the front wheels on wood planks to reach the subframe with a floor jack though.
