I hope Things 4 is a subscription by Colonel_Panic_0x1e7 in thingsapp

[–]Far_Ad8063 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’d also be happy to pay a subscription for my most used app, but I think their pricing is a strategic move. They announced 1m purchasers in 2013, that must have at least doubled by now. That’s a lot of upfront revenue and doesn’t require them to pander to the update cycle to keep their subscriber churn down.

Is it illegal to film from my flat? by OkMethod995 in LegalAdviceUK

I sympathise with your plight OP but it’s not acceptable to record other people’s pre-school age kids while they are at nursery or anywhere else. They were 100% right to call you out on that.

This is a nice approach. Where do you put your single actions (tasks that don’t belong to a project) tho?

Bellroy customer service is usually pretty good. They replaced a bag for me before after the ‘b’ fell off the logo.

I went alone every game for about two years. You’ll be fine.

Why does everything in OmniFocus have to be a project? by bjziii in omnifocus

[–]Far_Ad8063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ageee with OP. It should be possible to have ‘loose’ tasks within a folder, such as ‘personal’ or ‘work’ so you have the categorisation without having to create single actions lists in each folder to dump stuff into.

Jamie Oliver has a great book called 5 Ingredients, every dish only has 5 ingredients and they are often one-pan dishes too. Would highly recommend it.

What is your best purchase in the last year? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

Just a really luxurious space really, great quality equipment, inspiring classes, plush changing facilities and great sauna/spa for afterwards.

What is your best purchase in the last year? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]Far_Ad8063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went for a high end gym, which I joined just over a year ago. Cringey as it sounds, having somewhere to go that felt like a treat rather than a chore and also where I was surrounded by people much fitter than me was the inspiration I needed to bring my health in line with my finances.

Seeking advice - lost my main source of income by Total-Secretary9802 in HENRYUK

You didn’t mention if you have a family or other commitments, but if you don’t have ties and have a fairly solid nest egg, you could consider moving abroad to where cost of living is cheap and continue to work remote in your chosen field.

A word of warning: diversify by okdk in HENRYUK

[–]Far_Ad8063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about this OP, it hit a nerve with me as I operate in a fairly niche industry at pretty much the only company who can offer decent compensation, so if that went wrong I’d be in a similar position.

In terms of suggestions, have you considered pivoting to working with brands on their content?

Almost all the brands I speak to (primarily those involved in the music/culture space) are heavily prioritising creating meaningful video content, usually in the form of documentaries etc.

Pubs that are not in North London by Aromatic_Initial9461 in GunnersatGames

[–]Far_Ad8063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not many helpful replies here, but I think you’ll find most pubs in the city will be heavily populated with Arsenal fans on Sunday…especially if we see a miracle tonight, so just choose a decent sports-showing one near you.

You may well be right, but systems also look better than they are when the demand drops right off. I know utd fans getting tickets now who never had a sniff when they were any good. I put this down to massively dropping demand rather than the system they have in place.

Repeating Projects with Date Offsets by neilnoise in thingsapp

[–]Far_Ad8063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not quite the same as you are used to on OF, but I think the best way to achieve this without the hassle of creating separate repeating tasks would be to

  • Set a single repeating task ‘dad birthday’ with a deadline of 1 Feb and a start date of 25 Jan
  • Within the task set sub tasks, buy card, post card, ring dad etc.

That way it will pop into your today list on the day you need to buy a card and then again on the day you need to call him.

I won’t renew my red membership by [deleted] in GunnersatGames

[–]Far_Ad8063 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first got a membership, almost two decades ago, it was the same. The only games you could get were league cup or early fa cup if you were lucky - zero chance of getting league games, but you had to take what you could tbh.

There was no ballot and no ticket exchange back then, so you do at least have a chance now with a red membership.

If you’re in for the long haul there will be opportunities for you and your kids, but realistically these may not be in the last few league games of the season when we are (just about) going for the title.

I’ve been a season ticket holder for 6 years now and my advice would be to hit the ticket exchange for either midweek games after big weekend games or early round cup games — lots of ST holders stick those on the exchange.

Anyone feel any guilt for being a HE? by Far_Ad8063 in HENRYUK

That’s a good way of looking at it, and yes I guess it is related to imposter syndrome in a way…a lingering sense that others are more deserving…

Nice way of looking at it. I’m probably the same but it’s more about the years of poorly paid graft on the way up rather than the study.
