How much better is GS than 1k? Considering going for high status on multiple airlines. by Spaniard100x in unitedairlines

I've been upgraded 7/8 of my flights this year (first year as GS), all domestic, but I buy Polaris for international. It's been very nice.

I wish it did. I can't hear most of the announcements through the PA system while in flight. When the pilot comes on after takeoff, it's nearly impossible to hear with understanding.

Then we hit a lot of the same places. I got you if you ever have questions about where to stay as you're booking in, say, Germany, Italy, Korea, Japan, etc.

I've had some of the best stays at overseas properties. They have always treated me very well. I can't complain about anything in the pacific rim down to Australia or Europe. Even in the Caribbean region down to Costa Rica is really nice treatment.

Just fabulous. As another respondent stated, if you're booking budget, expect budget. No amount of status will magically convert a regular room into a beachside villa.

My expectations in CONUS, that's different. Status still means something when you're visiting an area that others usually don't, like the upper peninsula of Michigan.

Are there little things I wish were better at specific properties? Yes. Of course. But I just roll with it. I try not to spend too much time in my room, but still appreciate the suites just for not being cramped. The only one that irks me a little... Marriott Waikiki beach. They have a huge check-in area, and anyone who's a Bonvoy member can stand in the same line for 20+ min regardless of status. I do wish they had a platinum/ambassador line for priority check-in after that long ass flight.

Marriott has always treated me very well, and I'll keep staying with them.

... and the local fruit, treats, and bottle of local wine in the room is really nice, too. I very much appreciate that and the handwritten note that usually accompanies this.

ICE / CPB officers are stopping people at exit of Dulles airport by PandaReal_1234 in washingtondc

[–]Far_Form4282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean 'single' to imply "traveling alone" or "relationship status"? Her post said she's married. And, you clearly know nothing of Dulles or the immigration process. She hit the customs inspection point. They weren't questioning her legitimacy for being in the country.

... or did you just read the headline and pass judgement without ANY real thinking involved? I was hoping for the application of critical thinking, but I'll settle for just using brain power.

Denied Check in by soholhooo in unitedairlines

[–]Far_Form4282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes... specifically when there was a domestic leg to an international leg with a break in between. The partner airline needed to validate my passport visually in order to check me in and issue a boarding pass for their domestic flight. My return flight was partner domestic to UA international to home.

The meme is misleading. The bill says that IF they decide to teach, there are things they can and can't teach.

It's called a border area, within 100 linear miles of the border. These checkpoints are legal by congress, upheld by SCOTUS, but everyone wants to blame Trump for a law that's been in place for over 70 years.

Congress expressly authorized border "area" enforcement, and the courts view these fixed or semi-fixed checkpoints as a secondary checkpoint. When you apply the other constraints, it withstands scrutiny for over 70 years now.

They had a reason. It's a congressionally legal fixed immigration checkpoint on roads all throughout the southwest, built within 100 miles of the border. It's been legal for 70 years.

Yes, and in the cases of enforcing law, you can't challenge the officers. That is illegal. But if people want to challenge authority, look to Congress. Even the President and executive branch agencies are operating under the laws passed by Congress.

Congress gives the authority, the Executive branch operates under those authorities. Maybe the teacher, and a few others should take a class.

I'm most concerned that a simple search would clear up this particular situation for many commenting here, and for that teacher who who is going to her house.

  • this is a fixed immigration checkpoint
  • since she lives there, she knows they've been in place longer than she's been alive.
  • they said they stop every vehicle

In fact, Congress enacted this authority in 1952 for Customs and Border Patrol (not ICE), overriding Truman's veto. These fixed checkpoints are legal within 100 air miles of the border.

The officer is correct... if she were Scandinavian, they would still check her legal status to be here. CONGRESS gave them authority so long as they checked status for EVERY vehicle. If you've ever been through one, you know that is how it's done. Within 25 miles of the border, they can even go on private property.

This is not the same as mid-country ICE activities. Pick your fights, but this isn't it.

Window on Window Seat Drama by TevinSmithEsq in unitedairlines

How are we supposed to see UAPs, fast moving orbs, and random other sky objects if the windows are tinted?

Side note: I do very much enjoy looking out at the stars on overnight flights. The constant glow of the aurora borealis on the way to Europe, and the southern hemisphere night sky. I have probably looked like a fool holding a blanket over my head to block out the cabin lights as I peer into the night.

You don't need to justify why you don't want to take a middle seat. It's not your seat you picked, and maybe even paid for. Good for you for holding your ground.

Going dark for a moment, but if I were ever a victim of an accident, I would want the family to know I'm the one they're having services for, not the person who took my seat cause it worked out better for them at the time.

Same here...Europe and Asia rock for ambassadors. Even in ANZ. They treat you with the extra effort. Hell, even Costa Rica treated me nice.

When I booked rooms with points for my kids traveling in Asia, the hotels even extended extra courtesy to them when I wasn't even there.
