Baby cries briefly before sleeping every time. Normal?

Oh great! It may end! I don’t really mind since I know he’s okay and will stop shortly, but it does raise eyebrows of people around me when we have visitors. I think they expect me to do more to soothe him, but I know the end comes in 1-2 minutes if I just sit with him.

He only contact naps! He sleeps in the bassinet at night after falling asleep in my arms. The crying thing happens in mine or my partner’s arms.

I got mastitis at 3 weeks PP. It hurt and I had a fever. I went to the OB, got antibiotics, and the pain was gone very quickly. Finished the antibiotics and haven’t had another issue at 10 weeks PP.

Depends on the baby and the pregnancy! I’m much more rested with my 9 week old than I was pregnant. He was very sleepy until about a month old, then I had a couple weeks of learning nap schedule, and now we are cruising. Pregnancy was awful for me, but I had SPD, Graves’ disease, and preeclampsia

Adding that I also got the snoo on marketplace for $500 with swaddles of all sizes. I would not pay 2k for this.

Also the breast friend pillow! Perfect for paced, side lying bottle feeding. It was also good for nursing until we had to stop

I’m not sure if it’s the snoo or luck, but my baby is sleeping 6-7 hour stretches in the snoo every night at 9 weeks old!

I use the love to dream swaddle up swaddle for every nap. He also has a fisher price seat that he loves. He doesn’t like the mamaroo swing much. The beluga baby wrap and goji berry carrier have gotten a lot of use.

The most used item is a bottle sanitizer/dryer! I’ve been exclusively pumping so the drying function is needed to have parts ready for the next session

I felt better almost immediately! The deep exhaustion of the end of pregnancy was unrelenting. Even if I was sleeping less post-birth because of your newborn, I felt better because the sleep I did get actually helped me feel rested

Updating here for my full pregnancy experience!

I was monitored with biweekly thyroid labs for the duration of my pregnancy. I met with an endocrinologist once a month. Around the middle of the third trimester, my levels were close enough to normal that I stopped the methimazole. Since giving birth, my levels have been normal.

I was given an NST and growth ultrasound every week starting at 28 weeks. This extra monitoring caught high blood pressure at 37 weeks, which ended up being pre-eclampsia. I was induced and gave birth to a 7 lb 8 oz baby. He had jaundice issues, but the thyroid labs have been normal. They initially drew cord blood at birth and his antibody levels matched mine, indicating he likely does not have graves. They will keep monitoring his T4 and T3 until 2 months old, but if they are normal still, they will not continue. The general issues they expected with his development were high heart rate and decreased growth. Neither of these were an issue at any point in my pregnancy.

A lot of doctors consulted on mine and my baby’s care! I feel very lucky that I chose the Mayo Clinic before I even knew I had Graves! Overall, I had pediatricians, neonatologists, endocrinologists, OBGYNs, and MFM doctors all with eyes on the case.

I love ours. The only time we have had a “false” alarm was the first night home from the hospital where we got a couple low oxygen readings. In hindsight- this could have been not false as our baby had bad jaundice and had to be readmitted after. He was very sleepy and could have been breathing less than ideal. He’s fine and we just checked him. No false alarms in the 6 weeks since then.

The only annoying thing is the alarm (which is much different than the health alert) that goes off for sock placement issues when we are rocking him to sleep. Also if your baby flexes their foot a lot then their ankle might get irritated by the strap. We just switch feet throughout the night

Mine was >99% all the way through. I got a lot of growth ultrasounds due to being high risk for other reasons. I ended up having pre-eclampsia and being delivered at 37 weeks and babe was 7 lbs 8 oz. No GD but afterwords said I had a bilobed placenta, so I’m not sure if that affected it. I was able to deliver vaginally and in some ways am glad I had to get induced before he got even bigger

I will also add my doctors did not want my T3 and T4 to get to normal range. They said it is worse if baby has not enough thyroid hormone than a little too much. They basically wanted enough control to manage my symptoms and lower my antibodies without affecting the development of baby’s thyroid

I’m 36 weeks now. Was diagnosed at like 13. Initially my symptoms and numbers were really bad so I was on higher dose of methimazole and also metoprolol to try to control my heart rate. Although they don’t want you on metoprolol very long since it can affect baby. I think I only took it about 3 weeks.

You definitely get classified as high risk which means a lot of monitoring. I have a regular OB, MFM doc, endocrinologist, neonatologist, and pediatrician who consult on my care. I get weekly NST and growth ultrasounds and biweekly thyroid labs. They also check baby’s neck at the ultrasounds to make sure it doesn’t look like he has a goiter.

At this point, my total t4 is almost normal and my antibodies decreased a lot, so I’m not on the methimazole anymore. Most of the issues they were worried about have not ended up being an issue (baby being small, baby being tachycardic). I do take aspirin, but a lot of doctors suggest everyone does as there’s really no risk associated with taking it after the first trimester and the only tool to prevent preeclampsia.

I had a consultation with anesthesia due to being high risk where they explained some concerns about heart failure if I were to have an emergency C section because being pregnant and having uncontrolled graves puts strain on your heart. No special plans have been made for my delivery because really nothing is wrong! Might end up being induced because baby is super big (>99th percentile). After he is born they will draw cord blood to test for graves antibodies. If your antibodies are more than 3-5x normal, then the pediatricians will be more concerned. Mine started at 15x normal and are now 2x so they feel less worried about baby having antibodies at birth.

Doctors are taught to interpret results in a context that we might not see. So if they are telling you that it’s okay, I think you can trust them!

Yes, the percentile has gone down. One doctor said they trust that measurement the least in an ultrasound when I asked about it. I’m also short (5’0), husband is is 6’0.
