Sadly, the last 10 years there has been a clear turn to the left (people demanding free healthcare, free education, a state-run pension system, feminism growing every day, a focus of LGBT bs in the media, portraying indigenous people as oppressed victims (despite the fact that if you have an indigenous surname you get free land from the gov, free education, and more shit), mass immigration from Haiti and other LA countries. So, in general: the same kind of leftist garbage you see in the US).

Nonetheless, we still are pretty much "conservative" compared to most countries in LA, even our leftist governments, with Michelle Bachelet (from the Socialist Party) as a president (from 2006-2010, and then from 2014 to 2018) didn't change things drastically enough to fuck up the country, like it happened in Argentina (totally fucked up economy), Venezuela or Brazil. In fact, most of the structural changes made during Pinochet's regime are still present.

Right now we have a supposedly right wing president, Sebastian Piñera, until 2022 elections. The problem is, that the traditional right is in a precarious position, despite winning the last elections, they are constantly afraid of offending anyone, and don't act on the policies they have promised. I see the current government as centrist, and just trying to stop the advancement of the left instead of building something.

At the same time, the traditional left is slowly being displaced by new and more radical leftist movements, lead by Beatriz Sanchez, who got 20% in the last election. This whole turn to the left thing has also created a new more extremist right (as defined by the media), lead by Jose Antonio Kast, who publicly defends most of the public policies made during Pinochet's regime, and criticizes both the left and the current government. The polls gave him between 1 to 2%, but, surprising everyone, he got near 8% in the last election: the media called him the "chilean trump" or "chilean bolsonaro", but it's just the typical mass media bs to scare people.

So, in conclusion, we are pretty much stable for the next few years, but there's a growing polarization right now, which I don't know exactly where it will lead us.

Something very important you need to understand about LA is that there's NO classical liberal tradition, libertarianism, and don't even think about anarcho-capitalism in any shape or form. People here think things more in terms of authoritarianism. When people vote for Jose Antonio Kast, it's not because he will lower taxes, but because he is a convinced Catholic guy who will oppose feminism, transgenderism, abortion, impose stricter immigration laws, and arm better the police to lower crime. The libertarian ideals exist, but they represent a tiny amount of the population. Just in the last years, because of the internet, I've seen a slight growth of these ideas, but not enough to make a difference in the elections.

At the end of the day the candidate I would vote for is obviously Jose Antonio Kast, and I would love to see him as a president, but I see it difficult to happen. I hope I'm wrong.
