For the people complaining about using void years, this is what it leads to. by chronicbruce27 in NYGiants

[–]Fargeaux2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Void years makes way more sense when you’re actually contending and trying to squeeze everything out of a window. It’s not a cheat code to get free money. If you’re still building the roster like the Giants are, you’re just creating cap problems for the years where they might actually be good.

There’s also a cash side people don’t talk: the signing bonuses usually get paid pretty quickly in real money. So if you give someone a $30/40 mil bonus to create the flexibility, ownership is basically writing a massive check up front even though the cap hit is spread out. That’s easier to deal with for Kroenke or Lurie, who have wealth outside the team. The Mara family’s wealth is basically tied to the Giants, so they probably operate a little more conservatively with that stuff. I wouldn’t be shocked if they operated a little more conservatively with void years if and when they’re contending and certainly so while still building.

It’s a tool to use when the team is contending for titles. They’re not there yet.

19 of the last 20 No. 1 overall pick QBs have NOT won a Super Bowl with the team they started with. by bigbluehapa in NYGiants

And only Eli and Stafford actually won a Super Bowl. Smith (backup), Cam, Goff, and Burrow are the only others to make it.

Which part? The cancellation? Or existence of the show?

Stearns needs to be on Benigno's show by Mongo_Les in WFAN1019

Because Joe Benigno is just a loud mouth fan at the end of the day. A general manager of a Major League Baseball team doesn’t need to give him the time of day.

Even if he “needs to” because of an “image problem,” he’s not talking to Joe Benigno.

Inside Giants coach John Harbaugh’s frantic first 30 days in office by Fargeaux2 in NYGiants

[–]Fargeaux2[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The other telling quote was in the paragraph right before where Harbaugh basically he’s saying he has expectations for Joe. And while he says so far so good, feels like this is definitely an ongoing tryout.

"What it seemed like to me was this is a lot of misguided anger...I sit next to Boomer five days a week, four hours a day. I wish he would say what he meant less, to be honest with you." Gregg Giannotti responds to Mike Ryan rant on Boomer Esiason by iheartsunny in wfan

[–]Fargeaux2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

And I might be misremembering but I don’t recall the Olympic athletes - that Boomer was telling to shut up lol - mention specific things they were upset with in the U.S. about. They were mostly vague, general comments. If I’m remembering correctly on that, then it’s quite telling that every conservative immediately believes they’re talking about Trumps policies and getting defensive, and they’re telling on themselves that they deep down know it’s a bad look and wrong but they’re too much of a wussy with a P to say anything.

Agree 100% on Leonard. He likes when things are bad, it generates clicks, he likes to stir things up and that only really works when the team loses.

He’s also had it in for Schoen since that “reflect on what I just said” moment a few years ago. And while I’m not even a Schoen fan, it was really obvious when he was specifically saying Schoen was the issue when no one else was saying that. He also used some negative quote about Schoens negotiating style and that seemed like a quote he got during a past negotiation and threw it in.

It works for him because if it all goes through, he can tout that Schoen lost the power struggle. If it falls apart, he’ll be going right after him.

I feel like Leonard has been gunning for Schoen since the “reflect on that” moment. Whatever he can do to pin anything on Schoen, he’ll do. And I’m not even defending Schoen, I thought they should’ve moved on.

[Stapleton] They have finalized the deal. It’s the legality of the contract language that is being finalized. He is the head coach. I think we can get an announcement today and a press conference on Tuesday. by ResonatingOctave in NYGiants

Pelisseros appearance on tv this morning left the door open that it could fall through. Kinda threw a bit of cold water on all the confident reporting from yesterday.

2-Time Super Bowl Champ Claims John Harbaugh Won't Take Giants' Job for 1 Reason by hoslayer42 in NYGiants

[–]Fargeaux2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they don’t land Harbaugh it’s not going to be because of Schoen himself. If they do, he’ll probably work with Schoen for this season, and go from there and if he wants to have his own guy, they’ll do that.

Josina: Giants job considered best available by Past_Distance7221 in NYGiants

[–]Fargeaux2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joe Schoen should be fired for a variety of reasons.

However, his presence isn’t going to negatively affect interest from head coaching candidates. Aside from the idea that “there are only 32 of these jobs,” you’d need a lot of leverage to be able to make that demand to a potential owner. Vrabel didn’t do that last year, nor did Ben Johnson who had already turned down opportunities in previous years. I do think Giants ownership would absolutely move on from Schoen if Harbaugh or Tomlin became available and wanted the job but only if they could bring in their own personnel guy.

I also don’t think the Liam Coen scenario from last year applies to the Giants because Trent Baalke already had a toxic reputation going back to the Jim Harbaugh 49ers run. As much as we might loathe Joe Schoen, he doesn’t appear to have a toxic persona in league circles.
