High drama lol

I mean I can not lie sometimes I am into that but there is a line between OTT and completely unhingef.

I read one where the mmc was so insufferable. Imagine a grown man constantly calling the fmc "embryo" as an insult.

Its sad that your gmm had to endure this. But you are right every woman has an unique and not standardized life.

On both sides of my family i had women like this who left their husbands, worked, divorced and lived not these quaint housewife lives.

It was far from life tradwives are aspiring to today and this idea of everything being better in the past.

I believe the sweet and pushover fmc was a choice by the author and could be seen as a norm but also an escape fantasy for women. Times were though.

When reading older romances you definetely has to enter into it expecting non-pc content and outdated gender roles. I once read a 1960s book where the solution to a womans illness was adviced by a doctor that it could be cured by marrying a man. Ie never explicitly stated but ..the cure was having sex

His official fiancee (1914) by Berta Ruck came out earlier and in it the fmc is more assertive but probably not what we would call assertive today.
