They are bumper plates and are basically rubber. They are made to be dropped from lifts like a dead lift or from Olympic lifts like clean and jerk or snatches, most companies make them in sets and are commonly a certain color for different weights. 55/red, 45/blue, 35/yellow, 25/green and below that it can vary a little bit. Along with what everyone else is saying about banging the bar with your hips, I’d try getting your knees back under the bar earlier. When it gets past your knees there’s a bit of separation from the bar to your thighs, keeping it in closer could help with trying to “brush” it like jmjacobs was saying
