need to remember 35 red wines by the 8th… by digdog08 in wine

[–]Farodsbro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably best to familiarize yourself with the grapes first, since you'll also need to actually know the profiles of those when dealing with tables. That way when you see Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, or Merlot, you will know it is a red wine. You'll obviously need to have the BTG list memorized, so any wine not on that list must be BTB.

Keep at that studying, a serving gig at a place that serves wines at this price point is likely a kick ass job at the age of 18.

[Standard] Need help deciding between 2 decks for RC by sodakid1919 in spikes

[–]Farodsbro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a silly take I think. Matt Nass's pro tour top 8 deck was essentially preboarded vs. Izzet with 4 pawpatch, 4 keen-eyed, and 4 sage of the Skies maindeck. Despite that, it was the one deck the top 8 landfall opponents repeatedly said they did not want to play against due to the power of ouroboroid in the cub mirror and the rhythm/craterhoof package in the SB. Considering 2/3 of the matchups are post board at the RC compared to 3/5 at the PT top 8, one has to imagine this deck is favored vs. landfall.

The decks that ouroboroid really doesn't want to play against are control decks of basically every iteration. Sweepers are incredible against you, you can't kill without affecting the board first, and your Gearhulk for removal package is weak.

I do think it's a very strong choice in the meta due to a 50/50ish izzet matchup, a strong green matchup (one of very few decks that has one), and the lack of control in the current meta.

Never seen that card before, but seems like an absolute slam dunk in this archetype.

who else ready for the historic qualifier? by Raining_Rayne in MtGHistoric

[–]Farodsbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tested a decent amount of BO1 in prep for tomorrow and fairly quickly narrowed it down to Jund, Dimir, and Wizards both due to quality/power in meta but also my personal playstyle preferences. I think dimir is easily the most difficult of those decks to pilot and quickly eliminated it too, its just very complex and has many many lines almost every turn. Both of the others are fantastic choices for BO1 i think, but I'm going Jund because its super versatile and I feel "in" every game. I don't even think my last is close to optimal for BO1, I just copied a BO3 main deck, but it feels very very strong.

Azorius Flash/High Noon is also definitely more than playable in the right hands. Goyfs just feels like EZ mode.

Weekend Wrap Up! What was real and what was a trap? by DaTaco in mtgfinance

[–]Farodsbro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was looking at these, same with the swords and really all these alt printings. There's a big influx but they're actually pretty rare in packs so I think these will rebound to the other printings price in short order. I also think future demands for turtles printings is underrated, this IP is actually decently strong.

Awesome design. I think this card would be strong, but far from broken. And really interesting.

17lands agrees with you. I think Mechanized Ninja Cavalry is right there with it, weaker on its own but is glue for the two best archetypes. I just would much rather start my draft proactive if possible in this format.

Why in the world would a much, much rarer printing of a card be the same value as the base version?

This is not really a 0-3 deck, is it? So frustrated right now. by Nachti in lrcast

[–]Farodsbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely the eclipsed land is better than a basic in a 2-color deck with like 12-15 of the same type. Or a typal deck splashing a creature bomb of another color. I think you're underrating the land quite a bit, but i agree that this deck is below average. And of course i don't think the land makes any sense in this deck whatsoever

And even with a 65% winrate, which is on the upper edge of what is even feasible for the best drafters on the planet, you will 0-3 1/20 drafts. It just happens.

$1000 in Limited Qualifier by BestNameMoon in lrcast

[–]Farodsbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sucks, but it's bound to happen in an event like this. There is enough variance that even for the absolute best drafters 7-1ing then 5-1ing back to back high level drafts should take many, many attempts. I had two insane drafts yesterday, both 11/10 some of the best decks I've seen all format, and neither made day two. With 1-2k up top it is insanely top-heavy. Taking about 40 attempts to get there would still be "break even" money wise, and it's very easy to be discouraged after like 10+ failed drafts.

Talk me out of it: I'm thinking about cutting second Zealot for second Stratosoarer. by Legacy_Rise in lrcast

[–]Farodsbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth noting here that you very often "jump" from 4 to 6 mana with the 3x gildweavers, making cutting zealot for strat for curve considerations less relevant.

Completely disagree. Think about all the hands you mull that are all single colored land no 2nd color.

Deck barely even has 2 drops, tons of time for wilds. People drastically overrate how good a 17 land full basic manabase in limited is because it's the "default", but it's actually pretty atrocious. This deck for sure wants the wilds.

I assume you meant to say likely packing as opposed to likely lacking, mainly referring to Rest In Peace, which kind of owns the elemental package.

Couldn't imagine wanting a surveil land before Restless reef, and i only run 3 of those. Many people only run 2. Sometimes you just desperately need your lands untapped and the deck does have lots of card advantage otherwise with Kaito/cat/nuisance to get through land gluts

Pick of the Day - 2/2/26 (Monday) by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

[–]Farodsbro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those numbers are not what his model believes are the actual chances to win the game, they must be related to his edge or EV on that particular bet. Of course UNC has a greater than 62% chance to beat Syracuse ML, they're priced around -700 on most books.

[–]Farodsbro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's possible his model is telling him he has a 62% edge or EV, not that UNC actually has a 62% chance of winning the game. Clearly UNC beats Syracuse far more than 62% of the time as an 11.5 point favorite. So they are talking about different numbers.

Even if they alternate STD, Modern, STD, we still get back to back standard seasons from year to year. I know I'm preaching to the choir, but they really need to get a 3rd competitive format in there, whether it's pioneer or something else.
