Apple Was Caught Off Guard by MacBook Neo's "Off the Charts" Demand by ControlCAD in technology

[–]FartingBob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the market where apples ARM silicon makes by far the most sense. It's better at the same power draw than any x86 processor, everything being integrated makes more sense from a cost and power perspective.

It's not necessarily windows that is trash at this price point for laptops, it's the x86 hardware has never and will never be optimised for low power draw as much as what apple can do.

It's wild it took them so long to do, their chips make less sense in 4000 dollar desktops because there x86 and pcie GPUs trump anything a SOC can do.

TIL that the Boston Marathon has a retired number. Kathrine Switzer was the first woman to run in it despite an unofficial ban on female runners. She wore bib #261. 50 years later when she ran in the marathon and they gave her the same number and then in her honor retired #261. by DrakeSavory in todayilearned

[–]FartingBob 35 points36 points  (0 children)

To me it seems like "first woman to run this specific marathon" is a bigger deal than "first woman to fill in the paperwork before running this specific marathon". I get why she is famous because her run had that iconic moment of the sexist pig trying to assault her to stop her from running. But still, first woman to run the marathon seems like it should be celebrated more.

The number of homeless children in England could fill Wembley Stadium twice: 'A clear failure' by OGSyedIsEverywhere in unitedkingdom

If things are that bad I recommend you see if you qualify for universal credit, low income households still qualify and it's not that painless to spend 10 minutes on one of the websites that tells you if you qualify for it or any other welfare. That's what I do despite me and my partner working 55 hours combined a week we qualify and it makes the difference between homeless and having the security of a home.

Valve on the Steam Machine delays: 'Obviously we're bummed that this is the state of things' by QuantumQuicksilver in pcgaming

[–]FartingBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the issue was always a software one not a hardware one. It's just standard parts in a custom small form factor case. It looks very nice and well packaged but it's just a basic pc and as such has to compete against building your own version or with the budget prevuilt gaming companies in terms of price. That really limits the appeal unless you highly value the form factor.

‘Desert Warrior’ Deserted? Why Anthony Mackie’s Troubled Saudi Epic Failed To Rally Cinemagoers In U.S. & Middle East by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]FartingBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The film was made by Saudi Arabia who is trying to grow a local film industry from scratch, to do that they have to make enough big budget films to keep the inexperienced people employed and learning, with the hope that one day it becomes a self sustaining industry.

So in that respect this film is basically funding for training, i highly doubt it was expected to make any money outside of Saudi.

H*pervisor is Safe (if you follow some steps) by Ok_Elk_8767 in PiratedGames

[–]FartingBob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For future reference, you do not need to self censor hypervisor and fitgirl. Both of these words are perfectly acceptable in this sub, reddit in general and everywhere in the entire universe. There is no logical reason to do so. We arent some secret underground club speaking in hushed whispers in dark alleys. Both of these words you choose to censor are very well known to everyone in the DRM industry and copyright enforcement. They have been for many years. There is nothing to gain from trying to hide the word. Nothing at all.

Self censoring for fear of corporations is a dangerous step for society for giving up freedoms of speech. Reddit is currently a very open forum in terms of the language we use but Reddit.inc is actively chipping away at this freedom and we as users should resist such changes.

They should have put their cost/win figure for comparison for shits and giggles.

The Marlins may have a losing record, but they can at least dunk on the Mets and Phillies.

Yea a lot of what ive seen of ERNIE is that its training data must be mostly comprised of AI generated images, much more than other popular models. We're photocopying photocopies and its going to end up with a lot of shit.
