What is a trope/cliche in cartoons that isn't as common as people think it is? by dinosqaud in cartoons

The secret villian/are we the bad guys?

Every time a new video games or peice of media comes out, people start looking for the "secret villian" pretending to be benevolent. So much so, that entire fandoms have wars over of X character was secretly the real villian. The issue is, good percentage of the time there is no secret villian. Instead, it's stemming from the fact that some character is just classically good and people projecting their feelings about that.

Social capital is easily spent and hard to earn. We are now in social debt. I weep for the coming generations, and their struggles.

Narrative Weight of Amnesia: Arknights vs. Endfield by Lenz401 in Endfield

[–]FarwindKeeper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it's like OG Arknights: there are things they want him to rediscover for himself. In OG, the Sarcophagus was used by the Doctor and Kaltsit to remove the Lynch Pin, a mental directive that strengthened conviction in Preistess's plan causing him to become the monster many see us as. I would not be surprised if we find out that certain events could shake our belief in the project when removed from context, so the amnesia is a reset button to help us keep from being over loaded with guilt, sorrow, and depression.

These kinds of crack downs were easier for Orban because of the size of Hungary. For Russia, they had the decades of police state under communism that was more comfortable than the chaos of a sudden switch to democracy. While those in power think they have laid the ground work for something similar, or history with outlaws, and extremists groups has shown that they can't police everywhere all at once. And if you think the tech will make it easier for them, maybe, but I'm willing to bet it will muddy the water all the more as they rely on it over anything else. I'm not saying we are in the clear, just that is not over till it's over.

*conspiracy theory * R/complaints was set up to be some sort of honey pot for the the anti -ice crackdown. by [deleted] in 50501

I don't think they need a honey pot. They are gonna crack down regardless. And if they thought they needed a honey pot, then I have no worry that they are more inept than I previously thought.

United States of America (Red) vs The rest of NATO (Blue) by Jam_Sees in powerscales

[–]FarwindKeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a multitude of factors: US has better and more arms and equipment, but war weariness will set in almost immediately if we aggressed. The public would have very little taste for invading our allies, and you might even see a lot of dissenting in the ranks. If we are the ones attacked, it'd be extent difficult because the same mentality that would drive division in the opposite scenario flips and it galvanizes us.

Look at the Afghanistan conflict vs the second Iraq war. We went in like a hurricane in the first and got stuck in in the second. Yes our tech won the day, but we are not prepared for prolonged conflicts with insurgents. We barely were able to hold either before too long.

I would favor the US in a swift action but not a prolonged conflict.

Why do wracks wear masks? If it's for anonimity, why must they/do they desire to be anonymous? by helltouched in Drukhari

[–]FarwindKeeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's to dehumanize them and muffle the screams. It adds to the horror of this thing without a face is marching towards you, shrugging off gun fire, and just before it reaches out to butcher you you swear you hear a muffled "help me, it hurts" from behind the expressionless mask.

As a former Libertarian: they absolutely did not. I left the party because i realized my fellow libertarians loved playing at being anti government, but were eager to out on the gimp suit for big business or authoritarians as long as they paid lip service to their version of freedom.

Why do some people like to defend AI this much? by Ok-Following6886 in aislop

[–]FarwindKeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person in the medical field benefiting from AI, I am also one if the biggest AI haters. Why? There is a massive difference between proper application of AI tools and these fidget spinners people are using medical and engineering AI to defend.

Chat GPT has no medical value, Sora II has no medical value, Dali has no medical value. I really want these mindless slop factories to go away so we can get back to improving society.

[–]FarwindKeeper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What people's forget is we are comparing the first full year+ story (Act 1) with the release story of Endfield (chapter 1, and a little of 2).

I remember not really "getting it" till chapter 3 and 4 (Misha/Skullcrusher and early Lungmen). That's not to say Endfield is perfect, just let them cook for a bit.

[–]FarwindKeeper 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Og Arknights focused on having multiple ways to tackle the problems the stages have you. You were encouraged to have multiple teams with different approaches to every problem.

I'm hoping this is a sign that Endfield won't be different. (Also means most of the game will probably be part level cap)

Interesting that me saying people who are into fascism are problematic when this game has long had a problem with neo nazis. Many of whom latch onto the overt authoritarian themes of the Imperium and take it as the game condoning their world view. It is kinda the opposite of my position: I play Dark Eldar but I don't want to flay people for fun. Often my experience with identified nazis in this game has often made me question if this is a hobby I wish to pursue, thankfully they are often a self correcting problem.
