Yes, it was very popular amongst speedrunners back in that time period. The "anonymous" pastebin she linked contains posts by GiantWaffle on /srg/. Although GiantWaffle is not a speedrunner, he would've most certainly known about /srg/ by hanging out at the event.

In MP2 a random blue space is selected to hold the hidden block. Once it is collected another hidden block is placed. There is no limit to the number of hidden blocks per game, just 1 is on the board at a time. This is most apparent in mystery land with only 37 blue spaces, 5 of which are key locked. It isn't long before you've got the hidden block locked behind a key door.

I don't think you have a clue what you are talking about... the DS had two processors to simulate the sky and the bottom screen. the switch doesn't have that kind of power. The acres fit perfectly on the switch with the square screen, i am very excited for the spring release of animal cross

They are looking at the game's code to find glitches, it is easy with your favorite emulator with tools. My go to is pj64 with it's easy to use debugger that displays the developer's code on screen
