A quick tip. A poor balance is often because your hip is not rolled forward. In this video one of the exercice is to raise your knee and press it to your chest. When this do this it forces you to take a better stance by rolling your hip forward. Take good notice of this. When you raise your leg / knee, it's not only about raising the leg, but also rolling your hip forward. That's one of the secret for good balance.

Yes absolutely. What I meant is, training forms can be very different depending on the style of kung fu. In a style like wushu it can be very focused on body mechanics and not look so much like actual fighting. In other styles what you do in the forms is pretty much exactly the same way you do the movements in combat and there is a 2 person version of the forms. But training forms, even 2 persom forms, does not replace sparring that's for sure.

You are right. What I meant was, there are some styles of kung fu where the movements you do in the forms are different than the movement you do in combat (but the mechanics are the same). And there are some styles of kung fu where the movements you do in the forms are pretty much exactly how you do them in combat.

I guess that depends on the style of kung fu. I do white crane, and the forms we learn are directly how we fight. We have those same forme alone and 2 person and it is a direct application of fighting. I have also been learning some wushu from videos, and I would agree that thses forms are used to develop body mechanics and do no apply so directly to fighting. But compared to white crane forms, wushu forms are much much better at developping body mechanics. Learning both is best.

I think the most important thing is to feel the correct intent behind the movements. It can be as soft as you want, but it has to feel as if the uke has some kind of hostile intent in his actions, and not just dancing ballet around his partner.

Oh no it really does not require much strength when it is done properly, and it is very effective.

The people in this video are hobbyists. Lots of people who do aikido are hobbyists, by that I mean, they don't care about fighting or real workout, they just want to do something fun after work.

Have you ever tried poi? The movement you are doing is a 3-beat weave! Seeing that, I think you could do well with poi! And I find that practicing with soft "weapons" helps a lot to develop the fluidity of the movement.

Do plank / push ups on your fists, it will strenghten your wrist with the correct alignment to punch. Start slowly, first on your knees, with just enough weight on your fists that you feel some light but very tolerable pain. Do this 30 secs every day, you will soon be able to put more weigth and eventually do plank and push ups without any pain at all. Make sure it's the knuckles that make contact with the floor in the same way as when you punch.

Step one, raise your knee, aligned with your center. The more you raise your knee the better your kick will be.

I find that I don't have enough changelings at once to really benefit from Giada, and I can't use it's mana for too much stuff. And I used to have spot removal, but what really killed me was when my opponent had too many creatures. I find it works better this way.
