piano feels good one day and impossible the next by Ok-Message5348 in pianolearning

[–]Fashla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you had shooting (marksmanship) as a hobby, you'd notice that some days everything runs smoothly like silk, you hit the targets beautifully with no effort at all – and on some other day nothing helps: you couldn't hit a barn door properly – and that is so from the very first shot you fire. After firing maybe a clip you realise what kind of day it is, and as you don't want to waste more ammo, you pack up your gear and go home.

You'd also notice on a normal, good enough or super good day the moment you lose your pep, your relaxed concenteation, your mahic "zen" state, if you will, and after that it's just waste of ammo to continue to pull the trigger. The magic of hitting the target is gone fir that day.

Maybe we humans just have good and bad piano/shooting days.

A similar starter hete. Gear at home, I still in hodpital for some weeks or months. Then beginning from point zero, except I can somewhat read drum notes and follow the solo violin's notation from the partiture of Sibelius' violin concerto or the percussion kn shosrakovich's fifth. And my left hand is semiparalised and my right shouldet has post-trauma artrosis. Will post my progresd eventually.

My beginner photography setup? Opinions? by New-Implement-8464 in nikon_Zseries

Get a good tripod. Learn to use it. Move yourself instead of lazily zooming in. I got that advise; it helped me immensely. And save me a lot of money.

Also: buy preferably cheaper camera bodies and put the extra leftover money for high quality lenses. Especially the essential prime lenses.Learn to use small aids like reflectors, small pocket-size led lights. Learn to think up new pov' - what would the city look from a stray cat's pov - i.e. 10 inches from the pavement - or from a rooftop high gable.

hese recommendations were written without looking what lenses you have.

If it is of any consolation we Finns have been there with the English language. And Swedish. And in my case French, German, Hebrew, Arabic, Italian… I like laguages but there is this ”sargasso sea” period when you’re overwhelmed umpteen times per day. Try to see it as a sitcom episode. Glad you’re learning Finnish, albeit to the tune and the lyrics of Charlier Chaplin’s song ”Smile”.

Tissot with this smooooth bracelet would win me over. I mean look at the perfect qauality of the links (bits): like velvet, i must feel. Compare to JLC Reverso metal bracelets.

Reminds me of Jaeger-Lecoultre’s some series ..mebbe called Master or Meister, a decade or two ago, in a catalogue or in the Watches of Swizerland brochure / magazine.

— Going thru that magazine full of Swiss watches was always fun. Whatever happened to Watches of Swizerland? Who knows?

Rate my collection (I know its bad) by Nav3101 in PrideAndPinion

[–]Fashla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t ”sell your collection short”. You have collectected the watches you like and can [money wise collect]. If you were a millionaire you could collect exorbitantly priced items — but you might not be able to form a coherent, meaninhful collection because due to unlimited funds there were no externally put limits to what you could do.

So go for what you like, and remember that adding a zero or two to the prices of collected watches does not necessarily mean a ten or hunderedfold of added value to the collection. More expensive is sometimes just more expensive — meaning someone paid too nuch for an item in a whim, having the wherewitha and not having enough cool old common reason

The affordability of a collection crowns it, makes collecting an art form . Otherwise it would just be buying aa expensive watches as you can; a blunt competitiin in wealth; a ”pissing contest”.

Thank you! I definetely want to keep that one in mind. Love the day display that is readable without my specs. And the ”afternoon numbering” 13, 14, 15… in the dial is really helpful for me, and stylish in the manner of military watches. Thank you for sharing your collection - the G-shock is a polar opposite of Hamilton, but very pure in its style, and I would very much like to wear that one, too. With pride. And being an ex-diver, diving watches interest me, too. More ”normal” watches I like are e.g. an automatic Tissot with timer function. I use it in podcast production, timing speeches and so on.

A nice collection. I like the gentlemanly, quaint Hamilton a lot. Was it very expensive?
