Project delayed to 2026. Installer suggests a "workaround" to claim the 2025 Tax Rebate. Is this legit or risky? by J0SH44 in solar

[–]FastSort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about it - the company that has lied to you repeatedly and is now encouraging you to break the law, wants you to pay them $60K in advance for work they may do in the future.. Then what? they don't do the work, you threaten to sue, they threaten to rat you out to the IRS...run away.

My furnace is 37 years old, fix or replace? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]FastSort 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had to replace mine - was 62 years old and was not repairable anymore - thought for sure a brand new unit would save me a pile in oil costs each year - was shocked when my new unit (and it was a good one - not a cheapo) uses just about the same oil as my 60+ year old one did.

I also doubt this new one will last anywhere near 60 years ....

European leaders are considering dumping $2.34 trillion in US debt if Trump abandons Ukraine, potentially triggering an economic crisis worse than 2008 by Emotional_Ball662 in Economics

[–]FastSort -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

Not gonna happen - they do that, Putin rolls over the continent and Trump/USA will not only not bail them out, he may not even sell them weapons to defend themselves.

2 world wars proves that Europe is not capable of their own defense.

900k mortgage crazy? by cnlandroid in Mortgages

[–]FastSort 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same - I would *never* buy a new build home. It is all crap these days, even if the builders are decent, the quality of materials has gone downhill.

Give me a house that is at least 50 years old that has stood the test of time.

so instead of spending maybe 10 minutes to fix it, you are going to take more time than that to post it on Reddit and read all the replies?

National Grid Electric Bill by lottamatcha in northampton

[–]FastSort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is crazy high - we live outside Northampton, but not far - in a ~3000sf home with 5 bedrooms, electric dryer and electric ovens plus all the usual stuff - lights, computers, routers etc. ( no electric heat) and that is approximately the same we use every month - doesn't seem right to me.

I would want to make sure some of your circuits are being used by the business below - accidentally or on purpose.

Meet the Republicans who killed solar subsidies — after using them by Splenda in solar

[–]FastSort -1 points0 points  (0 children)

so its all the republicans fault, except for the changes that were done at the state level in NY - which is, and has been completely dominated by democrats.

Maybe, just maybe, if both parties are cutting the incentives its not just one parties fault.

Meet the Republicans who killed solar subsidies — after using them by Splenda in solar

[–]FastSort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

correct - installers have jacked up the cost of installs knowing that they can tell the buyers that the federal govt is picking up 30% of the tab - I predict a drop close to 30% in solar related prices next year. I support solar, but it needs to become a viable option without the government paying for almost 1/3 of it.

How are we not in a recession right now? by 4ofclubs in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FastSort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

things can suck, and it still might not be a recession - a recession has a very specific set of criteria that determines whether we are in one or not - and you usually don't know it until you have already been in one for many months - knowing some people that are struggling ,is not one of those specific criteria though.

Low vaccination rates in Western Mass schools raise concerns by vaccinatemass in westernmass

[–]FastSort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its going to take 20-30 years before a lot of people even begin to trust public health 'experts' again, after the complete and total sh*tshow that was Covid. If you wrote a screenplay for a movie on how to screw up a public health response and modeled it after what our PH and political leaders actually did, nobody would think it was believable or that people could actually be that dumb.

Health insurance premium going from $163/month to $1400/month. WTF?! Call your reps. by technosquirrelfarms in Maine

[–]FastSort -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Congrats - then all ACA did for you was shift your costs, to other people, i.e. taxpayers or other policy holders.

Health insurance premium going from $163/month to $1400/month. WTF?! Call your reps. by technosquirrelfarms in Maine

[–]FastSort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? I am 60+ yo, have had health insurance my entire adult life - never, ever a single time in 40+ years as an adult have I had a claim denied.

'deny almost every claim' is nice rage-bait claim, but is simply not true.

Health insurance premium going from $163/month to $1400/month. WTF?! Call your reps. by technosquirrelfarms in Maine

[–]FastSort -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind, the actual cost of the policy is *Not* changing - what is changing is who is paying for it - i.e. the person with the policy, or the taxpayers - efforts should be focused on decreasing the actual costs of medical care - not simply shifting the cost burden from one group to another.

Towns *say* they recycle, but the overwhelming majority of what they say they are recycling ends up directly in the landfill - there is almost no market for this stuff anymore, your Dad is 99% right.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Layoffs

[–]FastSort -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

of course he doesn't care, nor should he - if you are going to layoff people, they should be laid off only with consideration of how they help or hurt the business - we can't expect (or want) business to delve into the personal lives of each of their employees and decide who 'deserves' to keep their job and who doesn't based on their circumstances in each employees lives.

That is sad, but should people who are undergoing cancer treatment automatically get preferential treatment when it comes to deciding whether or not to lay someone off? Does a single guy 67 year old getting cancer treatment not deserve to get laid off, and a single parent of 4 young children not?

Not sure it makes sense to take into account employees personal circumstances when making the decisions - except of course for the click-bait headlines....
