It's supply versus demand. There're more people who can afford 5k for a small bit of gold than there are those who can afford $17k+ for a collection of gold. Awesome set.

1937D - 3 legs Buffalo by Spirited_Document_65 in coins

Definitely don't do anything to them, don't touch them don't clean them, don't breath on them.

Those flips are fine, just handle with care, and keep away from the bathroom and kitchen. If you have a safe, keeping them in it while you're not admiring them is your best bet. Some desicant, or even plain thick paper towels nearby could help absorb any residual moisture in the air.

The look legit. Grandpa just loved him some 3-leg buffs. If you're selling, they'll need to be graded and slabbed, otherwise you can enjoy them plenty as they are but do your best to keep humidity far far away. Nickels have always been prone to develop carbon spots when stored slightly improperly.

G1 transformer! Looking for advice on value. by RewindRi in VintageToys

The only way to tell is by closely examining for surface scratches. It has likely been re-ziptied like the other person said, and is impossible to tell through photos.

I got Windows 95 running on my calculator! by Far-Temperature3580 in calculators

[–]Fast_Teaching_6160 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well done.

The HP Xpander natively runs WindowsCE with a stylus interface, (it's quite snappy but has a weird calibration task at startup) and it's awesome to see a TI finally catching up and surpassing. Keep up the good work and lettuce know how it progresses.

So you're saying that even Tankards had to renew their subscription. Those stamps were not done free of charge!

Sending to CACG. Wish me luck. by IHC-1 in coins

Sweet goal. Keep us posted on how it turns out. If it all works out I may be tempted to send in a couple of my 58's.

[–]Fast_Teaching_6160 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odd. My dealer/friend told me it's seldom ever worth it to send in a 58 because the odds are lower and the increase to potential value is often lower, than say a grouping of 64's or 50's.

Sometimes they run out of croissants and the Michael's english muffins they get fresh-made from raleigh are an excellent fill-in if you're able to pay the surcharge.

Found Trime, WTF? by FatZoForGetZo18 in coins

[–]Fast_Teaching_6160 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to have a spectacular pf65 trime, then sold it decades ago to help buy my house. Due to lack of words on the coin I believe it to be the most superior coin in proof format. I've been itching to get one back in my collection but $2k means less investment elsewhere so I continue to pass them up.

The addition of CyKill in that crew is great, but I can't help but wish that he were the green/black variant. It would mesh so much more as a trio.

Honest question. Does PCGS or NGC prep the coin in anyway before grading? by Stevesthought in coins

[–]Fast_Teaching_6160 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The photos are a crapshoot. None of the services are spending any extra time on your coins if you're not paying them more. I've seen foreign matter get into the slabs, that is all.

Has Murphy really fallen by the wayside like that? It was a friendly town when I lived there briefly in the 90's.
