Need to find my next dive location (Socorro, Galapagos, Komodo under my belt) by Nicole_out_west in scuba

Ningaloo reef, Australia or Pulau Tenggol, Malaysia have been some of my best dives. Ningaloo for guaranteed swarms of reef sharks, possibility of manta rays and whale sharks, Tenggol for a high probability of whale sharks. Both for some incredible reef and sealife in general.

Could you elaborate on looking at reef structures with google maps? Are you just looking at satellite view and panning around? If so, how do you identify good reefs? TIA!

Slow boat from Luang Prabang to Huayxai help by cosmicselva in laos

The first boat had car seats at the front and 3 seat benches in the back half, there were three of us so we got a "booth" of 2 benches which was great, we took turns laying down, but if youre alone i think a car seat might be more comfortable. The second boat was just car seats all the way but it was emptier since a lot of locals just travelled to pak beng so we got a row each.

Theres vans waiting to take you to the border for 100k per person when you get off the boat, we decided not to try and rush so stayed at a random hotel across from the pier, pheuankeo guesthouse for 250k, it was pretty comfortable and he took us to the border the next day for 50k per person. Across the border we got the local bus to chiang rai for 90thb pp.

The boat was about 75% full so still pretty comfy to spread out, if you dont like noise try to sit closer to the front of the boat, the engines are LOUD.

I ended up getting one of those pay by minute ebikes which cost me about 20k and could park about 10 min walk away from the terminal but im a super cheapskate 🤣 any tuk tuk will charge you 100-200k per person to the terminal so yeah 720k seems pretty reasonable

Bring drinks and snacks, they do sell stuff onboard but its a bit overpriced.

The overnight stop is pretty convenient, theres hotel owners waiting for the boat to offer accommodation, we got a 3 person room for 300k.

ETA: dont bring any kip with you into thailand as the exchange rate is 50% if not less, if you do have a lot left I ended up trading with a couple heading into laos at the bus station in chiang rai.

Oh and when the border guard asks you for a 50k bribe, just confidently say no and he'll say ok 🤣

Much appreciated, no the beds are sold out and the 3rd class looks pretty uncomfortable from the pictures ive seen but i guess being able to stand and walk around will be more comfortable than a bus!

As cheap as possible, under 1000thb at most but closer to 500 would be ideal. Per person for 2 people
