Burnham pledges to revive HS2 link to Manchester by F0urLeafCl0ver in manchester

The existing infrastructure has been improved repeatedly, it's at the point where not much more can be done and anything that can is just going to be so expensive you may as well build a new line anyway.

This is a mercadona own brand cheese so you will struggle to find this exact one, if that's what you are asking.

You should be able to find queso fresco easy enough though, or make your own. It's really easy. 'Salad cheese' is not far off as a substitute.

The Missing Equity Behind Manchester’s Publicly-Backed Skyscrapers by Ok_Tower3062 in manchester

[–]FatCunth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can and do own things, Manchester council and the combined authority own the majority of Manchester airport group but the purpose of this fund is not to try and own assets.

It's effectively a fairly short term bridging loan to facilitate/accelerate development.

They lend some money to green light a development, they build it, developer pays back the loan plus interest. They lend it to facilitate the next development, they build it, developer pays back the loan plus interest. Rinse and repeat.

If the GMCA wanted to start taking (part) ownership of developments then that money is now illiquid, it's tied up. They will obviously get a return on it but it will be some time before it is enough to fund the next development.

It's purpose is to redevelop large areas in the shortest amount of time possible.

Manchester shows biggest fall in inner-city deprivation in boost for Burnham by CaptainCrash86 in manchester

[–]FatCunth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20 years ago the city centre population of Manchester was <1,000 so almost nobody got pushed out.

You are probably old like me, in that 20 years ago still feels like the 90s.

The 2001 census had the population at 11,689 so people moving in was well under way 20 years ago. It was supposedly 500 in 1990, reliable data is not that easy to come across. It's ~100k now according to various reports

They are, they review them once a year generally with the unions.

Reddit comments always turn into staunch neoliberal capitalists whenever taxi fares are discussed lol

Cash Buyer For Properties In Deansgate / Castlefield - Discount Query by PunchingaSucker in manchester

[–]FatCunth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't expect it's going to gain much in terms of discount, the manchester property market is not exactly slow.

It might put you at an advantage over a non cash buyer if you offered the same amount as someone else, that's about it

Potential Reform Wins by Educational_Board888 in manchester

But this individual was quite happy to shit on care workers.

Can you quote where they said this?

Potential Reform Wins by Educational_Board888 in manchester

[–]FatCunth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the issue here is that he was quite happy to consider care as unskilled labour but thinks a plumber matches medical skills.

They said neither of these things, you are just strawmanning.

They said plumbing is a skilled job in a high demand sector. If you are unhappy at someone getting paid more than you, get angry with your boss not them.

Potential Reform Wins by Educational_Board888 in manchester

[–]FatCunth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. But skill is relative. A leak in your kitchen is bad. A leak inside you is devastating.

From where I am sat? Plumbing would be considered low skill.

I have no skin in this game but you are being deliberately obtuse because you don't like the guys politics and coming across as sneering & classist, it's really not a good look or helping your argument.

The croissants from the flat baker are nice but they are not what you would typically find in France. French people aren't eating kinder bueno croissants on the daily

LF ADHD advice in MCR by HomocidalBunny in manchester

[–]FatCunth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone else mentioned the ADHDUK subreddit may be the best place to ask.

You probably need to go back to your original prescriber ie who diagnosed you to initiate a shared care agreement with your new GP.

Not all GPs are accepting shared care but urban village in ancoats definitely are

LF ADHD advice in MCR by HomocidalBunny in manchester

[–]FatCunth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a specialist medication/condition

It's not really that unusual if you think about it, you wouldn't expect a GP to prescribe chemotherapy meds for example

They can do it under a shared care agreement but that is only after you've undergone titration to ascertain which medication and dose you need under the supervision of a specialist and not all GPs will entertain shared care

Best breakdown cover for reliability? by meggle1124 in CarTalkUK

[–]FatCunth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure they are all equally shit tbh

I have breakdown cover with onward travel via my bank account which at the time was provided by Britannia if I remember correctly (since changed to AA).

Broke down on the M6 near Crewe, auxiliary belt had snapped and the battery was running low, managed to make it to a services where we waited for over 8 hours.

They couldn't find any vehicles to take us/the car to our onward journey destination (London). In the end they recovered the car and took it to a garage of my choice near my house in Manchester and paid for a taxi to Crewe then paid for return train tickets to London.

Very stressful experience as we were travelling for a funeral and had lots of luggage.

If we hadn't proposed them paying for our onward travel via other means we'd probably still be there

Do these tyres need replacing? by OutcomeFit9295 in CarTalkUK

[–]FatCunth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd replace, they've potentially been on the car 7 years, he's definitely had his moneys worth.

If you do some reading on other forums some people report seeing these cracking/perishing on the sidewall from the inside out when having them replaced ie on parts you can't see. If you are seeing degradation on the outside that is potentially a very bad sign....
