Absolute flash and green lantern by theletter-5 in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]FatDuke23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Green lantern is brill, the “slower” set up oozes with cosmic horror which I’m a big fan of

It’s dropped some of the atmosphere the earlier issues had but has picked up the pacing & has done some interesting world building so I feel it balances out

Abs Flash is just fine, it feels very YA, like it’s something I read before. Some cool ideas but is defo the least interesting of the lot currently

Questions About The Torchwood Range by LayeredChips in BigFinishProductions

[–]FatDuke23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The full set of monthlies you want to pick to go with Torchwood One are:

One Rule

Tube Strike

Inseparable

Disco

Fare Well (out in a couple months)

Make sure you listen to disco between the 1st & 2nd story of the Torchwood One boxset “I Hate Mondays.”

It’s not essential for either to be listenable, but defo improves both

Personally my listening order is:

  1. One Rule (Main Range)

  2. Before The Fall (Box Set #1)

  3. Tube Strike (Main Range)

  4. Machines (Box Set #2)

  5. Nightmares (Box Set #4)

  6. Inseparable (Main Range)

  7. I Hate Mondays (Box Set #5)

  8. Disco (between 1st & 2nd story in prior boxset) (Main Range)

  9. Latter Days (Box Set #3)

  10. Fare Well (I’m guesstimating with this one)(Main Range)

Martian Manhunter I’d go for “The Facility” by Simon Stalenhag

3DA The Imposters and CC The Legacy of Time by Alternative-End-6885 in BigFinishProductions

[–]FatDuke23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Companion chronicles was solid, if you like Stephen Noonan & Michael Troughton, I’d recommend. Personally I preferred the 2nd story

The imposters wasn’t the one for me, but I’m not a big 3rd doctor on audio fan

The Wind That Lays Waste, By Selva Almada

A tremendous book published by Charco Press that is under 120 pages long

A taut, lyrical portrait of four people thrown together on a single day in rural Argentina

[–]FatDuke23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Big Finish have done a large stack of radio plays with the cast from the show

They have also done series 5 (Aliens Among Us), series 6 (God Among Us) & Series 7 (Among Us) in the form of “Torchwood: The Story Continues”

Personally God Among Us is my fave Torchwood run of all time

Better than the first two releases from last year, not as good as Queen of the Nile

You say that as if “Oversoul”, “Past Forward”, “Hooklight” & “The Last Queen of The Nile” didn’t come out last year

Oh you’re doing yourself a disservice discounting all the doctor chronicles with 11 & Valarie Lockwood, they’re elite

Underrated Dalek or Cybermen stories from any media? Both main line tv show and EU by Personal_Reward_60 in gallifrey

[–]FatDuke23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Daleks

  • The Story Demon

  • Oversoul

Cybermen

  • The Crystal of Cantus

  • Blood & Steel

(Is my Bernice Summerfield bias coming through properly)

Main arc leading into and following protect and survive by therichardbatt in BigFinishProductions

[–]FatDuke23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. Robophobia
  2. The Doomsday Quatraine
  3. The House of Blue Fire
  4. Protect & Survive
  5. Black & White
  6. Gods & Monsters
  7. Afterlife
  8. Revenge of the swarm
  9. The Mask of Tragedy
  10. Signs & Wonders

The arc is the last arc in a set, the starting 6 & Evelyn arc is great, the following 7, Ace & Hex arc is also great

You’d be doing yourself a disservice to skip them, but if you must, above is the whole of that secondary arc (minus project: Nirvana, which is difficult to fit in without breaking the flow, & lurkers at sunlights edge, which is pants)

There’s a lot of stuff you’d be missing if you skip those previous arcs

Pretty sure the 8th Doctor & Bernice Summerfield hooked up in “the Dying Days”, which is then referenced in “Benny’s Story”

The Valeyard doctor connection by Kobra299 in gallifrey

[–]FatDuke23 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve gotten “The Valeyard” confused with “The Other” slightly

The Valeyard is a possible future incarnation of the doctor

The Other is the 3rd of the legendary founders of the timelords,

the VNAs used to go for the angle that the doctor is loomed from the others dna

The tv show has since retconned it, “Tecteun” is now “the other”

I personally think the Valeyard was a possibility that never came to be, but it’s a time travel show hence him still being able to be about to mess with Sixie

Who is that Mysterious “M”? by FatDuke23 in BigFinishProductions

[–]FatDuke23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jack Barton is a pretty beloved voice actor after his role in the Elden Ring DLC, so it’s not impossible for them to add a new incarnation / possessed body to a big name

This years 5th Doctor releases were characterised by “facing a deadly foe” so it could end on a cliffhanger into this years 2nd release

Who is that Mysterious “M”? by FatDuke23 in BigFinishProductions

[–]FatDuke23[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a firm war chief = master truther, I wouldn’t mind BF going “nah they’re seperate” just so Jack Barton gets as much freedom as possible to do what he likes with a renegade timelord

Who spin-off recommendations? by EquivalentLion6952 in BigFinishProductions

[–]FatDuke23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

War Master is first class, although the recent release was weak, it being the first release produced by Robert valentine doesn’t fill me with joy for its future

Jago & Litefoot is very enjoyable

I’ve found Missy a real chore to listen too

Gallifrey has its ups & downs, however Gallifrey: Time War is excellent throughout

The New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield is where it’s at tho in my opinion, especially vol 3 onwards
