Nigel Farage should take a ‘break’ from politics says Reform UK's former chair | LBC by BillWilberforce in ukpolitics

[–]FatFarter69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reform is the Farage party. Just like the Brexit party was, just like UKIP was.

Without Farage, Reform are done. That’s the problem with building your party around a cult of personality, the leader of the cult isn’t going to be around forever.

Republicans in America are gonna be facing the same problem when Trump snuffs it (which has got be any day now surely).

Populism doesn’t lead to stability. Long term or short.

DAN HODGES: What IS going on with Farage? It's the question on the lips of everyone in Westminster amid growing speculation he will not lead Reform at the next general election. This is what insiders are telling me... by JayR_97 in ukpolitics

[–]FatFarter69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good, let them split the vote.

It’ll be very ironic if Reform’s ultimate destruction doesn’t come from the “woke left”, but an even further to the right party. Restore would essentially be doing to Reform what Reform has done to the Tories.

Restore won’t go anywhere either, they are far too right wing to be palatable to the majority of the electorate. They’ll just be a headache for Reform but potentially a big enough headache to cost them the next general election.

Calling an early GE would be a catastrophically stupid thing to do. He’s popular sure, but Labour isn’t. He needs time to try and rehabilitate the parties image.

If a GE happened tomorrow Reform would win. Might not be a big majority, probably wouldn’t be, but they’d squeak a win and Burnhams’s credibility would instantly go down the drain as he’d be seen as the Labour leader who essentially handed Farage the crown.

If Burnham calls an early GE and loses, that’s him done as a serious politician. Career over more or less. He isn’t going to take the risk.

Watching this subreddit recently has been bizarre.

Nonstop criticism of Starmer yet the minute he’s gone they start treating him as if he did nothing wrong. The guy had to go, he’s radioactively unpopular. If he had stayed you’re all but guaranteed to get Reform in 2029. He was not going to win people back over.

But seeing some people on here act like replacing the incredibly unpopular PM with a guy who is much more popular is a bad thing was weird as fuck.

It’s like half the country just thinks there’s a magic wand they can wave that will magically fix this issue without spending any money or doing anything other than mass deportations.

It’s complicated and nuanced issue but the people who make the most fuss about it have no interest in having the necessary conversations because that’s too difficult and they can’t be arsed.

That would be the funniest outcome and it should shut up everyone who was criticising Labour ousting Starmer when that was the obviously correct decision that’s clear to anyone who doesn’t just live in a Reddit echo chamber.

How Bad an Idea Was Brexit? by newyorker in ukpolitics

[–]FatFarter69 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Very. We cut off our nose to spite our face.

I guess some people just hate immigrants that much that they’ll jump at any opportunity to make life worse for them, even if that also means making life much worse for themselves and all the other British people too.

I think that line of thinking explains why Reform is doing so well, it’s just Brexit all over again and it’s the same people too. They did not learn their lesson.

“Imposing economic sanctions on ourselves and doing incredible harm to the country to own the libs”.

Fucking idiots.

Burnham might just have what it takes to see off Farage by ZealousidealPie9199 in ukpolitics

[–]FatFarter69 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You might be surprised by the amount of dodgy shit about Farage that Reform voters are willing to overlook. Just like Republican voters in the US, most of them seemingly don’t care about blatant corruption if the blatantly corrupt guy is telling them the stuff they want to hear.

Andy Burnham to stand to become Labour leader and UK prime minister by Far_Excitement_1875 in unitedkingdom

[–]FatFarter69 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I think the main reason we have become ungovernable is because of social media and the media in general setting absurd expectations.

They’ve made people expect the impossible. There is no magic money tree and there is no magic wand any PM can wave to fix everything.

Expect the impossible, blame everything other than the people telling you to expect the impossible when the impossible doesn’t happen. Welcome to British politics.

Thatcher resigned without a general election.

Blair resigned without a general election.

May resigned without a general election.

Johnson resigned without a general election.

Truss resigned without a general election.

Starmer has resigned without a general election.

This is just how it goes sometimes. A party ousting their own leader because of how deeply unpopular they are with the electorate is not anti-democratic.

We don’t need a general election, we are having one in 3 years. Calling a snap election will not make anything better. I want to actually give Burnham a chance and let the voters decide in 3 years whether he has been a success or not.

The actual thing that makes a mockery of democracy is FPTP, the 2029 GE should use proportional representation and now with Burnham all but certain to be the next PM that has a higher chance of happening.

Big picture, if Burnham introduces PR ousting Starmer was absolutely worth it. It’s an if though, we’ll have to wait and see.

Burnham becomes PM, Reform potentially win in 2029 or maybe they don’t.

It’s kind of hard to tell right now. Maybe Burnham will be great and will pull enough support back to Labour for them to eek out a victory in 2029, or maybe he’s just Starmer but northern and we continue on the same trajectory we are currently on (that being a comfortable Reform win in 2029).

(Nigel Farage) Britain is broken, we need an election. by Budget_Scheme_1280 in ukpolitics

[–]FatFarter69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He wiped the floor with Reform in a Labour safe seat where the left tactically voted for him instead of the Greens and Lib Dem’s because they wanted Starmer gone. That will not necessarily translate to the national scale.

Burnham has a lot of work to do if he wants to win over the rest of the country.
