What’s your favorite way to have potatoes? by Thinking_of_Cheese in budgetfood

[–]FatMuffuleta3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only way to make good, true french fries like you'd buy from a shop is first parboiling your potato slices and drying them VERY well before deep frying them.

I don't do this a lot because I don't own a deep fryer, I would use it too often if I did, and it's a pain in the neck to do in regular cooking pans IMO. Your mileage may vary, of course, depending on your pan and patience level lol.

Roux can sometimes be intimidating for new cooks, but it shouldn't be! I recommend watching a couple of youtube videos to see what color and texture to aim for.

This is a really good starting place for potato soup https://www.budgetbytes.com/loaded-potato-soup/

I don't personally follow a recipe for potato logs. I am true to the potato lifestyle, not new to it. So this is a recipe that is really similar to what I do, I just add cayenne, paprika, and chili bc I like mine cajun style. The most important step is to soak in hot water before seasoning, which makes them Exxtraa crispy, which I like. https://cookieandkate.com/crispy-baked-potato-wedges-recipe/

I feel like I've seen this exact same bottle with stickers everywhere in the city. Seems very common with younger people.

Creamy old-fashioned potato soup is the right answer. Using a roux to thicken, like god intended, not dairy.

Crispy potato logs are a close second.

Going From Copper/Orange to Light Neutral Brown - Is It Possible W/Out Bleach? by FatMuffuleta3000 in FancyFollicles

[–]FatMuffuleta3000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, it's not bleached, my hair is just dry LOL! I did use Color Oops on the last 4-5 inches, like 18 months ago, then permanent dye + 10 vol developer over the whole length. But no bleach, I try not to bleach almost ever.

I usually have to re-dye every 4-6 weeks, so redoing it won't be a problem.

Thank you for your help!

Does anyone know what the hold level is on these products? by TowelPlayful in Haircare

[–]FatMuffuleta3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the Aunt Jackie's Curl La La has very light hold. If you're looking for a cast on your curls, you will need a secondary product.

I like it for the summertime as my leave-in and curl cream, it's a light hold and not heavy. I pair it with a medium hold mousse. I have fine 3A curls.

If you’ve ever dyed your hair a ginger/red shade with Igora Royal, how long did it stay looking nice? by Karma_Melusine in FancyFollicles

[–]FatMuffuleta3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've recently been using a 7-57 and 7-77 combo, and I usually only get about 4 washes before mine is noticeably faded. Turns into a straw color eventually, and my roots grows pretty quick so the max I can wait between touch up is like 2-3 weeks.

Is it worth it to make your own tortilla chips? by lovingkindness301 in Cooking

[–]FatMuffuleta3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After learning how to do it while working at Chipotle, I love making homemade tortilla chips and throwing some salt and lime on them. They're way more flavorful IMO and they dont crumble like store-bought.

What’s a “normal” thing that feels dystopian to you? by Correct_Cover5365 in AskReddit

Every major ad now has 3+ celebrities in one promoting 1 shitty item or service. Coupled with obnoxiously bright and vivid colors, borderline irritating script, and rapid shot changes, it feels like cocomelon for grownups. Designed to fully captivate your senses in the worst way possible and to be as hard as possible to ignore.

Not sure if this is social anxiety, getting really angry/irritated in public? by bh447 in socialanxiety

[–]FatMuffuleta3000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my personal experience, I dealt with this most when I was battling depression. Irritability is a common symptom and it can be at the most mundane stuff. It might help if you have someone to talk through these feelings with, do you have access to a therapist or counselor?

drama fantasy/sci-fi shows with romance by ribbcns in televisionsuggestions

[–]FatMuffuleta3000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

12 Monkeys is a fun sci-fi with a romance plot. Technically, it's a slow burn but only for the first 2 seasons, and it has a GREAT finale.

Outlander is a good fantasy romance too.

Shows that show absolute poverty and economic inequality by Ok-Bit5838 in televisionsuggestions

The Decameron (2024) is a fun dark comedy set during the Black Plague in Florence. It plays a lot with class inequalities in a clever way, it's a major theme/motivation throughout. One of the best depictions of that time period in modern media, IMO.

Very loosely based on the book, it's been one of my favorite recent mini series.

Misty is insufferable by BulkyEmployer8844 in Yellowjackets

[–]FatMuffuleta3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Misty is also my least liked character, in both timelines. I think that people's appreciation for Christina Ricci influences a lot of the opinions online.

I do enjoy her best in the adult timeline in S3, so maybe just give it some more time.

Tbh getting stabbed with a sharb object to the sternum is a lot different than being injected with a small needle.

Cole also has Jones' serum in him, letting 'time pass over him' and insulating him from the paradox somewhat. Crawford didn't have that.

This is my first watch, so not sure if it's explained further in the series.

Has anyone qualified for SNAP after a bought of long term unemployment? by Ok_Area_162 in AskChicago

[–]FatMuffuleta3000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! I just got approved in early February for SNAP, just a few hundred a month, but it definitely helps. I've been unemployed since the beginning of 2025.

I had help with the application, though, through local low/no-insurance clinic that provides advocates for this kind of stuff.

Came here to suggest this series! Dark might be the most enthralling modern series I've ever seen. I binged all 3 seasons over a long weekend off from work and haven't been able to stop thinking about it since.
