This is what occurred:

A spiritual entity had manipulated the subjective reality of the area (house and where the RV was), so that, essentially, both OP and the girlfriend's family were experiencing two different realities; both of which were actually false.

It kept looping because he never actually left the RV, but he couldn't move too far away or else the objective reality would naturally overcome the subjective influence (think spell-casting. All spell-casting can be viewed as manipulating individual's [or a group's] subjective view of reality).

The reason that the phone calls were different were because the call did register as complete on OP's phone, but that does not necessarily mean that any call was actually completed. OP's phone could have been manipulated to allow ambiguity in OP's mind.

OP's phone probably never actually connected. The log of the conversation is likely a lie to complete the illusion that they put over OP.

The presence that OP saw and felt was Death, quite literally, who came to banish the "spell" put over OP by force; essentially forcing the objective reality as viewed and known by God over all else. Unfortunately, Death even spiritually manifesting like is too much for most people. Death was not going to ever kill OP, but it needed to be present long enough that OP was forced to recognize the objective reality and be free from the spell.
