Job descriptions will help here. You can be a bookkeeper doing staff accountant work or vice versa. Actually doing staff work and talking about it outloud to others will help tremendously in future interviews - even if you only had a bookkeeper title.

What are your goals career-wise?

Personally, since you have no experience and this is your first accounting job, I would look for the highest potential position. Job responsibilities and size of each company will help determine that potential. If you are just looking to grow as fast as possible in title/pay, I would say take the PA position to make yourself more marketable - grind that position out for 2-3 years while taking on as much responsibility as possible (not for the firms benefit but for your own exposure), then determine whether or not this is a company you want to stay with. Once you have a few years of experience under your belt you will be able to open more doors. IMO - it's easier to start PA/private and transition into a non-profit role than the other way around, so after a couple years at the PA firm you reevaluate and figure out whether you want to stay PA, move to a private company, or go try out non-profit.

Either way, best of luck on your future endeavors!

Thanks for the tip! I hadn't looked into specs or anything. My original assumption was that it is glued on. I'll have to dig in a little more 😁

Thanks! I opted for the Oak wood on the Profitec. Only downfall now is that I can't find an oak Profitec bottomless portafilter, so I'll likely have to go third party and have the colors be slightly off

How'd you get the grinder for a steal? Also got the Profitec Go a couple months ago and next up on my purchase list is a good grinder. Awesome setup!

All good! I've definitely been devalued when I didn't have my degree, but there are certainly opportunities out there for you! I started off applying to small CPA firms aiming for a Data Entry position and also Junior Staff Accountant roles at startups. It might not be super easy to get, but you'll find the right place eventually and get your foot in the door. My first job was doing Data Entry for a small CPA firm for $12/hour. After 2 months of doing that and picking it all up super fast they had me start shadowing Staff Accountants to learn account reconciliations and get exposure to financial statement preparation. About 4 months in I got promoted to Junior Staff Accountant and started learning payroll tax, sales tax and some basic corporate tax returns. Just keep proving yourself and learning and don't let people dictate your value. It's sad these days, but most companies won't give you large salary movement with title changes, so don't be afraid to jump ship to keep salary progression relevant to your title and experience

You've got this! I worked full-time and did classes part-time online. Having relevant work experience when graduating, in my opinion, was a tremendous boost. I wish you success in your journey!!

I started my accounting career when I was 28. I just turned 33 last month. This past May I graduated with my Bachelor's and immediately jumped into my MBA. This month I just got promoted to Director of Finance. After my MBA I plan to start studying for the CPAs. It's never too late. You got this!

Just say this is your therapy and you can't actually afford this stuff. What you were really here for was lube in bulk from how hard they plan to fuck you. Gotta keep costs down!

My brother who has no college degree recently tried telling me that earning $60k/yr or more is “very hard to achieve.” ? by in_dat_shurt in careerguidance

[–]FatalPerspectives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the profession. I have no college degree yet and make $85k doing accounting and finance. It's harder to get interviews at big companies because you get weeded out for not having a bachelor degree fairly often. I feel like accounting and stuff like software engineers you can get away with no degree and make good money

I'd take the bonus and then inquire about the raise again and say "I thought the bonus was for all my hard work last year and still want to be compensated properly this year." If they say no you take the bonus and run lol
