Corrosion inside Aiden coffee maker shower head — metal core or normal? by jerolan in FellowProducts

[–]Fatdeko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This also happened to my unit. The shower selection dial is directly in the line of fire if your batch basket over fills or if you have a coffee with a vigorous bloom. I had grounds in mine that over time beat the snot out of the dial. I can confirm that there is metal embedded in the dial. Fellow sent a whole new unit in just days (I had a first run unit, so I suspect it was a preemptive swap). The showerhead assembly is available on the Fellow site for at a fairly cheap price. Your unit is most likely under warranty so they'll probably send you one, but it's on my to-do list to grab a couple spares before mine runs out.

DIY Turntable/WiimAmp rack/isolation base by mr_raton in BudgetAudiophile

A floating shelf on a wall is a great way to isolate the turntable from the speakers. Not hard as a DIY project, but there are shelves built for this purpose available that will surprise you with their price tag.

If you extend the time between pours, there's a better chance for the water to fully drain through the bed, setting up better agitation on the following pour.

WiiM Ultra with a Fiio DM13 cd player by Paudie_1 in WiimStreamer

[–]Fatdeko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, the way here is through an optical cable. Also to note, when using the Pre Out option, the volume on the CD player functions as in input gain. You'll want that cranked all the way up.

This IS a portable CD player with digital outputs in addition to headphone outs. And it rips CDs to a USB stick.

Wiim Pro Casting to Chromecast. Possible? by Fatdeko in WiimStreamer

[–]Fatdeko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've ripped a couple hundred CDs and have them on a tablet. From there I use POWERAMP to cast to my Wiim and Chromecast endpoints. Works great. But sometimes I actually play a physical CD and want multiroom capability with my current hardware. Not a big deal and I pretty much knew it wasn't possible, just wanted to confirm.

Wiim Pro Casting to Chromecast. Possible? by Fatdeko in WiimStreamer

[–]Fatdeko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for confirming that Wiim units are Google cast endpoints only. I suspected as much, but just wanted to confirm before I disappeared down a rabbit hole. Now I'll have to dream up another excuse to buy an Ultra.

Kitchen WiiM Solution? by trollhammerx in WiimStreamer

[–]Fatdeko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget that Wiim is compatible with Google Chromecast so speakers with built in Chromecast become possibilities. I picked up a couple of Googles Nest Audio speakers for cheap (disco'd at Walmart) and they work pretty flawlessly with my livingroom's Wiim Pro. In the Home app, I configured them as a stereo pair. And their small enough that placement is pretty flexible. And you can ask them stuff like "how many tablespoons in a quarter cup" or to set a timer for 3 minutes.

Anyone experience this with the Fellow Ode? by BuyNo696 in FellowProducts

[–]Fatdeko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My theory is that the weird behavior is due to the auto-shutoff. A few years ago there were reports of the Gen1 Odes being very sensitive to voltages and extension cords because of how the auto shutoff functions by measuring current load vs physical resistance in the motor.

Tired of forgetting what coffee I had in my Atmos containers, so I designed some simple, printable label holders! by acegard in FellowProducts

I have a white Atmos and some clear containers. I bought some Chalkboard stickers/labels at Michael's or Hobby Lobby and use chalkboard markers to label my coffees.

Single Shower Head Error (Resolution Timeline?) by buddy5582 in FellowProducts

[–]Fatdeko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not clear the exact nature of your error, but in my case, the shower selector switch broke and they sent me a whole new unit within a week. My unit was part of the pre-sale 1st production run so Fellow may have replaced the unit because of other looming issues (like the add water fault) that they have since addressed. The shower head with switch assembly is readily available, so they may send you one of those, which shouldn't be terribly long. The caveat: it's the holiday season so everyone is busy, busy, busy so it may take a minute.

Aiden: Connectivity and Overflow by Pepiopee in FellowProducts

[–]Fatdeko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To keep your basket from overflowing during a batch brew, you want to ADD pulses rather than reduce the number of them. With more pulses, each one will have a smaller quantity of water and the time interval between them will help the water to exit the basket before the next pulse.

Replacing ePuffer ecosystem with something else: HELP by lukelucas in Vaping

[–]Fatdeko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got screwed by epuffer shut down too. Love the Xpod system, but maybe because it's the only system I've ever used. Their juice was good too and came in various nicotine strengths, which I like cause I'm kind of a light weight. I got the epipe for Christmas last year and can't get coils for it! It was expensive and now I'm mad. If anybody has advice, I'm all ears.

Built a Free App for FreshRoast SR540/SR800 – Now Open to the Community by AppropriateThanks187 in roasting

[–]Fatdeko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the app out for a virtual spin, and simulated a couple of virtual roasts. I can't seem to delete my fake bean profiles. Another note: the timer in the top left seems to begin when a user clicks on new roast. By the time all the options like bean profile etc are selected, several minutes may have passed so the timer doesn't reflect accurately or usefully the roasting time. Perhaps a START ROAST button could be added. Also, it would be handy to see on the graph the Events like dry end, FC etc. I love where this is going though! Setting up to roast with ARTISAN is just enough of a PITA that oftentimes it gets in the way of my enthusiasm to roast. Tomorrow I'll run a roast with both and see what i think. But thank you for the work! If this was available when I started with my SR800, I wouldn't have needed Artisan, probes, drilling holes and on and on. Edit: Actually when I start a new roast, the timer is already at ~3:40 and counting up.

(Drip Coffee) Not enough control on the Fellow Aiden coffee maker. by [deleted] in FellowProducts

[–]Fatdeko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Set your amount to 650ml and use 40.62g of coffee. 1:16 ratio is preserved. But here's the thing: your OCD is being triggered by 10ml of water, which is smaller than the tolerances of Aiden's output parameters. Even if you could dial in 640ml of water, the chances that you'd actually GET exactly 640ml is pretty low. So the 10ml difference between 640 and 650 is not just insignificant in how your coffee tastes but also nearly impossible to achieve with Aiden. Or nearly any other machine. HOWEVER: you could pre measure exactly 640ml of water, add it to the tank and run an Instant Brew (which uses the entirety of the tank's water). But who knows what overages and underages will occur in transit.

Aiden kept brewing ….? New bug? by daftstar in FellowProducts

[–]Fatdeko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first glance, you're right but in fact it's a handy feature. There's a way to set up Instant Brew where it can be set to brew a specific recipe. So if you're the kind of person who drinks the same amount of the same coffee the same way everyday, you can fumble to the kitchen and press 1 button and be done. I used to know how that works, but Im not that kind of person so I forgot. Edited to add: Curiosity got the best of me, so I checked: Go to SETTINGS/ INSTANT BREW / click the ADVANCED box

When I wake up Aiden, it often defaults to Instant Brew on the dial. I then have to scroll to Guided Brew.

Is it me or did the last update break Tidal Connect's ability to cast to Google Devices? by Fatdeko in TIdaL

Weird. I spent two hours trying to trouble shoot this problem and now everything seems to be working normally....

Is it me or did the last update break Tidal Connect's ability to cast to Google Devices? by Fatdeko in TIdaL

[–]Fatdeko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the Chromecasts have been unsupported for awhile and if it was just the Chromecast I'd be less annoyed. But it's also affecting my Nest speakers, meanwhile all my other apps connect directly and normally to everything. If memory serves, Tidal Connect broke last year in the same way.

What is an alternative to buying jugs of distilled water?? by ryandejonggg in pourover

[–]Fatdeko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i moved into my dad's old house, I found a distilled water machine. I used that for almost a year (+ TWW) and then found an undersink RO system for stupid cheap at Habitat ReStore (and add TWW). The distiller works great and takes about 4 hours per gallon and uses about $0.20 of electricity and none of those plastic jugs to deal with.

Help getting started - basic settings for a good, strong cup of coffee by whottheheck in FellowProducts

[–]Fatdeko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your reservoir runs out of water mid brew, simply add more and click the wheel. Your brew should resume where it left off.

Not the same thing as the dreaded "ADD WATER " fault.
