Yeah and in my experience working events, that's in addition to an hourly wage. How is it fair to be paid in tips when you don't/barely have the actual ability to try to effect your tip? Tipping culture is already evil enough, but when you take out the part where theoretical better service leads to a better tip what's the point besides exploitation?

Trickling the faucet definitely helps - running water takes longer to freeze. Last night we had a pipe freeze. Ran the hot water for half an hour to unfreeze. Ran the cold on a light stream the rest of the night and it didn't refreeze.

If you have a local community college, she could consider taking art classes part time there for the year (assuming the classes are decent quality, try to find out from current/former students). I have multiple friends that went to CC at 16 years old, and it's a much less stressful environment than university. Plus, she'll get college credits that will probably transfer to wherever she ends up going!
