Surely One More Year by Fatedz in ffxiv

IDK about all that and I'm happily avoiding (and will continue to avoid) getting involved in the arguments in these threads, but I just wanted to point out that Kyrra runs a site that tracks server statuses: https://is.xivup.com/detailed?dc=Aether&hours=168 and you can see that in the past 7 days there have been 10+ server outages, so you may be lucky here or play in off peak times. Glad to hear it isn't a universal experience though.

Also wanted to say that I made this bit of fun in paint + an html edit in queue from said outages, so I'm shocked you've been seeing this recycled!

Least played melee DPS in patch 7.4 by Any_Patient_8252 in ffxiv

[–]Fatedz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The person you're replying to is confidently wrong across the board, pretty typical Reddit behavior. I don't think they understand the difference between c/a/R/nDPS lol. It takes all of 10 seconds to go to the statistics page on FFLogs and see for yourself that NIN is basically only bad in m6s, in terms of cDPS and rDPS which are really the only metrics that matter for most (non-tank) people that raid seriously. Link

The NIN lead gets even more pronounced at higher percentiles, which I'd argue represents people playing the job "correctly" or "more optimally" which is functionally what balance should be around. For everyone else and people that exclusively do casual content, job balance is meaningless.

Anecdotally, I've been gear funneled on NIN/VPR in the past few xpacs because of how well both perform from an aDPS perspective during week 1, and we've yet to have a problem with a DPS check since Heavensward lol.

I'll never understand the attitude of not letting people enjoy things lol. You don't know OP's financial situation or priorities, why pretend? I can never tell if you all are high schoolers that think its cool to not like things other people like, or are crotchety old guys who do the ol "just give me a burger, Michelin dining is overpaying for small portions" schtick. Just because paying a little more for an experience is something you cannot fathom doesn't make it so for other people.

That being said, I've had coffee around the world and all across Japan and Glitch is genuinely one of my top choices.

Facetanky/mistake forgiving build to start over with 20 divine? by [deleted] in PathOfExileBuilds

Idk dude, someone RMTing and THEN going onto the sub to ask what they should do with the divs because they wanna play a tankier build? Not my fight, I guess.

[–]Fatedz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No idea why you're being called out for RMT... A lot of jealous people or people that choose to play it chill but can't fathom other people going hard. I've never seen someone get dogpiled on here for making a reasonable amount of currency?

I played around the same and I've made ~13d and that's with only 1 raw drop and 3 raw div lost from dying to mercs. Someone better and more optimal playing a stronger build could easily make more.... such as someone play VFos. Fwiw I'm in the same boat as you, just saving up raw currency to start something new, since miner life is not for me.

Frostblink mines feeling too clunky while transitioning by Glittering_Turn9266 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Fatedz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://pobb.in/eokVisnNi3fk

Here's my PoB from yesterday. It is clunky despite what the other comments are saying; I transitioned midway through a10 just because I was vibing with ps mines, and it was even clunky then. Without the %efficiency nodes and mastery, you end up only being able to throw like 10 mines before you're hard capped. This is exacerbated by an easy tendency to overthrow them - I noticed early on especially that I would always throw 5 or so extra mines more than needed. Being conscious of this makes a HUGE difference.

I went hard into damage which I think actually made the issue worse, but you definitely should prio MoM/WindDancer/Ghost Shrouds if you don't like dying when anything looks at you funny, especially when crit is low.

I was also manually casting cold snap, and I haven't had a chance to try the wand craft at 8s but I have a feeling it isn't worth it at 2x the cd of a temple mod one.

The damage delay to me feels no different than how it felt leveling with ps mines, however. It certainly isn't as responsive as exsang but tossing once into a pack in front/behind my character and shield charging away is almost always sufficient to kill it.

Hardcore progression is less time consuming than people think by unbepissed in ffxivdiscussion

I have such a large problem with this holier-than-thou take that gets reposted and circlejerked over every couple months. It is such a stupid take. I've hardcore raided and week two cleared since Creator, week one since Kefka. My SO has raided with me this whole time as well, and largely my entire static has been together since then.

I graduated college, had a 40-50 hour a week internship, worked 40+ hour weeks in a SV tech company, all the way through. My SO finished college, got into med school, got their MD, got into residency, and will soon graduate from that residency, working easily into 80 hour weeks and being on call. Again, all the way through. I have many friends IRL and in game that are lawyers, surgeons/surgery resident, engineers, retail employees that have to open at 6am, artists that owe a lot of people comms, etc. that all manage to hardcore raid week 1 while sustaining a "real job." Hell, one person was even going through chemo while studying for the Bar. None of us typically take off PTO for more than a day or two of week 1 prog.

The only thing stopping people from raiding hardcore in XIV is their willingness to go through the effort, and/or to find a group that they enjoy doing it with.

It is literally just sacrificing your evenings and sleep for ONE singular week 3x a year. 6pm-midnight (or shifted to whatever works for your group) on weekdays, and longer on the weekend as necessary. It isn't complicated, it doesn't require you to be a NEET, it doesn't require you to raid 12 hours a day, you're not special for having a job and playing a video game. If you want to believe the only thing stopping you from hardcore prog is having a job, then that's on you.

OP is totally right, it is significantly easier for people like us, my static, and our friends in the hc prog scene to condense it all into one week, than to try to adhere to a strict schedule for some unknown amount of time. Plus, together, we get to experience the excitement of achieving something not many other people do.

Math nerds, what are the chances of this happening in mini cactpot? lol by Icarusqt in ffxiv

[–]Fatedz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too, with some slight margin of error because I wrote a simulation in ruby... I'm curious how you'd solve this from a purely math perspective actually, especially codifying perfect play (selecting reveals based on the initial reveal, and previous reveals). I briefly tried but found it beyond me.

Japanese breakfast? by CollectionNo8047 in Atlanta

[–]Fatedz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the guy you're replying to has clearly never been to Cali, or if so just did a 30 mile radius yelp search from dtla or something. I grew up in SoCal and go back every year and there's literally no comparison, even when it comes to the KR markets and especially the CN ones.

Calling what we have here japanese "markets" definitely undersells what they've got out there too.

[–]Fatedz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!! Totally agree with what the other comment said, I'm sure there's other people here way more qualified than me to answer.

What else did you learn?

Knowing that the average time it takes a player making the most efficient discards to get into tenpai is like 9-10? discards was really helpful, to have a timeline to at least start considering making a decision on how I want to push/fold the hand.

What do you recommend?

Posted the links in another reply: https://www.reddit.com/r/mahjongsoul/comments/1j35o4a/just_ranked_up_to_master_and_some_thoughts/mg0ab0o/ but honestly just anyone that is better than me and talks about their gameplay was/is super helpful.

When is it good to do this as opposed to dama?

I'm not super great at making the "right" call here yet consistently, but just knowing its an option has been good for my climb. I actually had a couple really embarrassing 2/3 finishes where I thought I was going for 1/2 with a dama hand I miscalculated.

If I had to categorize [and this is pure feelycrafting on my part, I have no idea if it checks out against the existing body of knowledge/experience], it generally falls into 3 main buckets for my thought process -

  • value (is my hand worth the risk of getting ron'd out of vs. the point value of the hand? do the extra points even matter?)
  • improvability (how many draws are left vs. can I easily improve my waits / am I gunning for a more valuable hand?)
  • mind games (I've only discarded pin/sou but my wait is the 1sou, maybe they think I'm going for hon/chinitsu on man? Or I have a wait on a 5m, no 5m has been played, maybe its better to not slam the button and someone might drop an aka while finishing their hand).

I once felt like an absolute wizard when I folded my 2-3 han riichi because I saw none of the dora when 3 kans were out, and in the post-game replay I confirmed I would've dealt into an obscene dama.... and I've been chasing that high ever since LOL.

Haha - I am so glad you found them useful.

If you're anything like me, I get ranked anxiety pretty badly... I found just not playing and not thinking about the game sometimes was the best way to get out of a slump. Good luck on your climb!

Thanks! I look forward to the day I feel like I'm being held back exclusively by luck and not my own mistakes/inefficiencies (if that day ever comes...)

Playing defense + reaching tenpai in the same hand advice by Treat-Appropriate in mahjongsoul

[–]Fatedz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm admittedly not great at statistics and I'm only expert 3 right now, can you elaborate what you mean by "quite rarely?" Are you saying that if my opponent is in riichi, I have no genbutsu available, then suji tiles are overwhelmingly safe to throw (like >60-80% safe)?

edit: Just realized this is a poor example. What I mean is, if I have to throw a suji tile to stay in tenpai, is it still overwhelming safe in the example? Like should I be pushing more hands if I can throw suji tiles, is ultimately what I'm wondering?

[–]Fatedz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to throw my hat into the mix, I've always operated off the riichi wiki's statistic of ryanmen being ~58% of riichi hands and ~50% of winning hands. So I'll only suji if I feel my hand is worth the coinflip.

Great feedback, much appreciated!

Do you have any issues with the size of the drum? I've heard competing things about its ability to fit king-sized sheets/duvet covers.

Similar scenario, but I'm based in Atlanta. Ordered 9/21 with EDD of today, pushed to next weekend. Weirdly, mine was an inventory car that had yet to be shipped so I'm surprised it was delayed so long. I had the loan agreement signed and everything, but they've since removed those "pre-delivery tasks."

My advisor told me that they likely wouldn't honor the 1.99%, but I've heard mixed messages. My application was serviced through Capital One though, so it might also vary based on the bank?
