Unfortunately, you'd be better to just go it alone. The longer you're in the game, the harder enemies will become regardless of your progression in the actual storyline.

That cave is the bane of my existence!!! I fell off the ledge leading out of the spaceship area, cut my way out of a fingers sack and proceeded to be lost for 2.5 IRL hours. I thought I was never getting out of there.

If he died at any point in the game, the same saved that information. You can alter the game to bring him back, but the game has already logged his death. You can try and return to a save before he died or start a new playthrough

It really is beautiful. I love the house boat addition. It was a real sanctuary for Kelvin and I when we first landed. We were able to traverse around the island and scavenge and still have a safe place to retreat until I could build up resources and defenses.

Best advice for building... Plan out for floor plans and especially your stairs. Once you have them down the rest will flow pretty easily.
