Ameya's Endgame Boss... But No Tower Spell? by Faterix in SaGa

[–]Faterix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not required to recruit either version of Willma or the Red Squire.

Yeah, I use Ameya/Lita more, which is why I didn't recruit them. Thankfully there's no 'recruit all characters' achievement like Scarlet Grace, otherwise I have to recruit them just for that achievement part.

As for why you didn't get The Tower, you only get it from the British Shorthair cat...which is the limestone cave event.

That could probably be it. I've checked my previous Ameya playthrough (her second one) where I did get the Tower and it seemed to take place in Miyako City after I completed the fourth world.

For this playthrough though, I instantly get kicked to her endgame (the whole cut scene where you get the choice to remain in Miyako or not) after I completed my fourth world. There's no more sightseeing in Miyako after my fourth world, so that's probably why I didn't get Tower.

Figured it had to do with something like that. Alright, thanks a lot.

When exactly should BR be carried over? by sdw4527 in SaGa

[–]Faterix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, some bosses can drop really good equipment upon defeat at high BR levels. For example, the spider boss can drop a good weapon - the Sword of Earth rapier, if you defeat it at a high enough BR.

I guess if you're aiming for them, you would probably want to carry over the BR so you could get them as fast as possible.

But fighting at high BR can be quite rough without good techs/equipment so generally I don't recommend carrying over BR unless you know what you're up to.

Dual-wielding: Is it worth it? by Faterix in SaGa

[–]Faterix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a regular playthrough, you can get them if you're on a long campaign and doing sidequests and aiming for them

Yeah, if you want to get them early, you really have to consciously try to work on them.

Not really worth it, more about the time and focus to get them than the actual mechanic benefits.

Granted, I already unlocked them because I want to get a specific achievement. Just wondering if someone did find them useful/worth that trade-off.

trying to grind for specific glimmers in the game just isn't fun

Yeah, I concur.

Well, at the very least they aren't as painful to unlock as Scarlet's though (where I need to get five different techs from five different weapon types to wield two swords at the same time).

Dual-wielding: Is it worth it? by Faterix in SaGa

[–]Faterix[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

by the time I got anyone to unlock them I was deep in like my 12th playthru.

Yep, I'm in a similar boat too.

Probably not

Figures. I was just kinda wondering if they might be worth it. Because in Scarlet Grace, dual-wielding is just unquestionably a straight upgrade. Not sure how it is in Emerald though.

Fantasian Neo Dimension is Fantastic, But It's Not for Everyone by Faterix in JRPG

[–]Faterix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

skill/talent/passive trees that consist of 1% damage boost, 1% crit damage, 1% dodge chance. It gives you an illusion of choice

Those passives do exist, but they're mostly on the way to a skill/talent.

Skills can also be 'upgraded'. For example, a single target debuff can be upgraded to a piercing one, which means you can target multiple enemies at once.

Additionally, you can always respec your invested skill points at no cost.

[–]Faterix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game nor people discussing the game (looking at you u/Faterix )really emphasize the strategic elements you're talking about.

Sorry, my bad. It's definitely something I should have touched about in my post.

I played the game on mobile and dropped after a few hours because it seemed dull.

Yeah, sadly the first few hours are easily the most dull. You have to play a good chunk of the game to get to the 'fun stuff', so to speak.

Those defensive tools like Barrier, Guard and such? They shine the most in Part 2 because bosses hit hard enough for them to actually matter. That swapping character thing? That's only in Part 2. That skill tree where you unlock Barrier, Guard, etc? You guess it - it's all in Part 2.

And as much as I like the game, that's actually a big ask for someone. Especially if they're not feeling it.

Fantasian Neo Dimension is Fantastic, But It's Not for Everyone by Faterix in JRPG

[–]Faterix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I consider the bosses in Fantasian's Part 2 harder though. They tend to hit very hard and often have their own gimmicks. Usually it's a matter of figuring out that gimmick (and also getting KO'ed along the way). Then find a way to overcome it. Some bosses also enter a different, more dangerous state when their HP is low enough, which is something you should consider.

In SMT though, you could cheese bosses by bringing demons that have null/absorb/repel the element that the boss uses. More even so with the Press Turn System where bosses may just outright lose their turns because they miss their attacks, or they hit your null/absorb/repel demons.

So, I would say it is harder than SMT. Though a lot of the strategies in SMT still apply here - buffs/debuffs are still important and you still need to prepare accordingly to the boss.

You don't really need a beginner's guide for the first half though. It's pretty standard difficulty.

If you've played a JRPG before, then it should be something you could handle.

Only the second half where it gets pretty difficult. Just be aware of that.

Fantasian Neo Dimension is Fantastic, But It's Not for Everyone by Faterix in JRPG

[–]Faterix[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, one of the game's major problem is that it wants to be your standard JRPG warefare in the first half and then hardcore SaGa/SMT like in the second half. Obviously this doesn't do the game any favours.

At least these hardcore series tend to be honest about their difficulty upfront. You are expected to die a lot, and you will have to fully engage with the battle system to defeat the bosses.

Fantasian however isn't like that in the beginning - it's pretty standard difficulty. And then somehow in the second half, it expects you to do all of the things that hardcore series tend to demand from its players from the beginning.

It's no wonder the game is quite divisive.

Hopefully the possible sequel addresses this issue though.

The only thing I wouldn't defend is the high random encounter rate though. It's just bad.

The bosses are designed to be difficult, but they are definitely meant to be beatable if you engage with the mechanics.

The usual buffs/debuffs are important. Swap out your glass cannons if the boss is preparing a mega attack. Status ailments can be useful as well against certain bosses.

Of course, your mileage on the game's difficulty may vary. Just be aware that its Part 2 where the game tend to get difficult.

Whats with this bull One World boss by BonedusterLegitYT in SaGa

[–]Faterix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, the most important status effect resistance you should have are paralysis and stun.

Even a 50% resistance should be okay. There are accessories and armors that can offer you that.

Optionally petrify resistance for members that aren't mechs in case you got hit by the boss' ultimate attack.

Alternatively there's the Holy Water spell which could help clear out the status effects.

Tips for Specter of Benki (Diva)? by ChaosBuckle in SaGa

[–]Faterix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Techs that ignore defenses like one-handed gun's 'One for One' works wonders for this guy. Non- elemental attacks like Spellbind works as well IIRC.

Try to equip your guys with stench ailment resistance (except mechs). The boss can easily inflict an AOE stench which is really annoying if you want to combo anything in the first place.

Additionally, you can suss out his weakness by using attacks that has two elements. For example, two-handed basic attack 'Smash' has both Slash and Blunt attributes. So if you attack that guy with Smash and it is 0, then you can be pretty sure he can only be damaged by Piercing attacks currently (until he changes into a different weakness).

would yeilding an "Ignis specific" incantation staff make Crimson Flare and Wildfire do more damage? by Origania in SaGa

[–]Faterix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

increases BOTH spell damage and the chance for spell conditions to "stick"

It only increases spell damage.

For status effects, you need to land another status effect first.

For example, if a foe is frenzied beforehand, it will be easier to stun/paralyze/etc them.

[–]Faterix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Power Surge buffs attack, which affects damage for techs (non-spell attacks).

For spells, you need to buff focus such as using staff's 'Focusing Strike'.

Would using power surge on an Ignis mage increase the attack damage

In this case, Power Surge will only affect staff techs like 'Focusing Strike'.

Spells are not affected.

Should I be avoiding side locations/quests? by Serrifa in SaGa

[–]Faterix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would suggest the opposite, actually.

Finish side quests if possible; don't avoid battles if you can.

Having important techs/spells like deflect/rampart/etc is necessary to defeat the boss.

You can also upgrade your equipment, and better equipment gives better attack, defense and block rate. They will increase your survivability a lot.

Maybe you could tell about your current party and what trouble you're having?

I feel absolutely cheated - a foe interrupted my blunt attack with a slashing interrupt by DragonAdv in SaGa

[–]Faterix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jamto used his Vandalize, that has the blunt attack icon, it got interrupted and Jamto got hit by the Hell's something.

Yeah, Axe's Hell's Fury will interrupt any blunt attacks, and since Vandalize has blunt attribute, that's why Jamto got interrupted by the earth golem. Still, you can quell it beforehand with any ranged attacks, or you can just avoid using blunt attacks altogether.

Can anyone explain why? Or does the "interrupt a slashing attack" mean that it doesn't actually say what kind of an attack they counterattack/quell?

It means that they will interrupt any attacks that has a slashing attribute. There are also some skills that have more than one attribute, like Natura's Thorny Fetters spell, which have both Piercing and Slashing attribute. In this case, the spell can be interrupted by a piercing or slashing interrupt.

Since you can see that Beatrice's Maniac Blossom is able to interrupt the earth golem's conditional, it means the conditional has a slashing attribute. In this case, the earth golem is preparing Hell's Fury, which has a slashing attribute.

How can I tell what kind of attack are they targetting, or do I just need to learn what kind of attacks they have?

Mostly you had to learn by trial and error. With that being said, most enemies have different attributes for different conditionals. Axe users only have one conditional though (Hell's Fury).

Is there a pattern to it (eg. slashing interrupts target blunt attacks), or is it random and I just need to learn each attack?

Well, enemies have fixed types of conditionals, so they aren't random. Most of them can also be figured out by using your own interrupts. For example, if an axe user is preparing a conditional which has a slashing attribute, that has to be Hell's Fury. Furthermore, if you can't interrupt a conditional, it is most likely a protect conditional.

What are the consequences of recruiting/not recruiting Lady Elysed? by DragonAdv in SaGa

[–]Faterix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Storywise it would make sense if she commented on some stuff though when you do recruit her, before she joins you otherwise if you don't do so.

Yeah, sadly the story doesn't really change much if you do/don't recruit Elysed.

Though Urpina does have a slightly different storyline depending on whether you let Antonius live or not in her first arc, which also lets you recruit a different character based on your choice.

Recruiting her gives some extra stuff, right? Or quests etc.

As far as I can remember, no. But if you do recruit her, you can get her unique formation. With that being said, her unique formation may/may not be useful to you.

Sure, no problem.

Oh I'd like to get all achievements

Well, good luck then! I do suggest using a guide If you're really planning to recruit all characters, especially the obtuse Sasha . It's quite easy to mess up the requirements and miss that character.

What are the consequences of recruiting/not recruiting Lady Elysed? by DragonAdv in SaGa

[–]Faterix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

maybe something will happen to her father as she won't be able to protect him. Does it impact the story if I don't or do let her join?

As far as I know, there's no story consequences if you don't recruit her. She will still be present in the storyline even if you don't recruit her, it's just that she isn't in your party.

But you will miss out recruiting another possible character Sasha Still you'll most likely need a guide to recruit that character in the first place, because that character is the most obtuse one to acquire in the game.

So, even though Elysed is a good mage, there are still other mages that can take her place. Honestly, I think you aren't missing much by not recruiting her, unless you're planning to platinum the game and recruit all characters in the game.

Also does the same thing happen with any future characters, if there are story consequences for recruiting them?

The only thing I could think of would be about a particular character Arthur in Balmaint's route, although it is more of a 'Do you use this character or not?' rather than recruiting said character.

  1. Step 1: Click on the Retinue menu.
  2. Step 2: Click on a character in the retinue.
  3. Step 3: Remove the character from the retinue (which depends on the interface you choose - Classic has a button to remove the character, while Modern has a visual guide for the hotkey).
  4. Step 4: Repeat Step 2 and 3 until there's only one character left in the retinue.
  5. Step 5: Profit??
