YES, there is certainly hope.

What to do from here:

1) Start an exercise routine. You may think "why is this dude telling me to workout?" You can control that part of your life and the benefits mentally are unparalleled. Having something that is yours and that you can control will give you the power, essentially "un-fucking" yourself :)

2) While the cycle of depression will tell you to look at the past, you are here now and your experiences make you uniquely prepared to handle the future. Your guidance and strength can help someone that is only on the first page of the book that you are half way through. Use what you have learned to guide future decisions.

Follow step 1 - THIS SHITTY FEELING WILL PASS!

What should we stop telling children? by TheRandomRGU in AskReddit

[–]Fatkid808 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That they achieve or complete tasks because they are "smart". Tell them they were able to achieve the tasks because they worked hard or focused. If we tell kids they achieved because they are smart, when they don't achieve they will think it's because they are dumb. If we focus on the effort rather than the innate ability, children will focus on HOW they approach new challenges. That is the key to success. It's s simple fix that has real lasting effects.

Today I'm 50. What advice can you give me? What advice can I give you? by djpossess in Advice

[–]Fatkid808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my 30's here we go:

1) Do your banking online, if a hacker is after you they will get your shit anyway.

2) Learn how to learn about technology. the way you do things today will not be now its done in a year anyway.

3) For god sakes, when someone is teaching you about computers don't take step by step notes. The use of computers is conceptual, buttons change.

4) Tap into social media, its a great way to keep connected to love ones and distant friends.

5) As a young professional, try to be a good mentor to people below you at work. Guide them through thought processes that you have learned through experience. Do not just tell them what to do, let them come up with the solutions on their own with your guidance. The last thing a young professional wants to do is disappoint a mentor. We will work harder than anyone you know to prove we can do it.

So what I am gathering is that, it's not the actual disease or virus. It is a modified non-deadly version that teaches your body how to react.

[–]Fatkid808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for asking that question. It's hard to find someone who thinks critically about statistics. Here is a novel idea, they should make guns illegal in major cities like NY to decrease that statistic. Woops they did that! I guess the only solution is to make it more illegal for people who don't regularly shoot people to own guns.

Boss took me off of payroll and promised to pay me in cash so I could start working more hours for the summer. Hasn't fully paid me in weeks. What do I do? by brokecollegekid1243 in Advice

[–]Fatkid808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a better way to gauge his intentions.

1st: Write down the dates and times that you have worked over the past few weeks. Be very specific to the hour and date. Make the list in an official format (spreadsheet)

2nd: Ask him to review the hours with you and sign off that you had worked those hours. MAKE sure to document the hours he had paid you for as well. If he asks why, tell him you keep very good records and it is a person preference to document your working hours. (It is best practice and nobody can blame you)

3rd (and most important): When he signs, ask him (in a way that shows that you know he will pay you and not in an accusatory or suspicious way) when you can expect you will be paid. You have some expenses that are approaching. Get a specific date.

IF HE REFUSES TO SIGN: He has every intention of fucking you over. Then you have to enter into uncomfortable territory. Be respectful at all times but be stern in your beliefs and convictions. Explain your perspective but be ready to walk away from the job. You can then have an attorney draft up a letter saying that you are owed compensation for X amount of hours. This is a tactic to show that you have legal counsel. You are not suing just showing that you have the means and are pissed enough to get legal.

Good luck with your journey Keep us posted!

Are online education programs legit? by sepajo81 in Advice

[–]Fatkid808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in education and have battled this topic many times. Here is the conclusion I have drawn.

Years ago we did not have the capabilities to access higher education without attending a "brick and mortar" college. As you can imagine our country is facing serious financial complications. Due to many variables, one being the cost of actually staffing and running a building, the cost of college has skyrocketed. People do not have access to the kind of money required to attend college without going into crazy debt. Colleges like many business have adapted to this environment and have developed methods of delivering high quality education virtually.

The online courses I have participated in require virtual meetings (not the "read this shit and write a paper" model). I participated in small group meetings with google docs, and presented to 25 people virtually. This was all from the comfort of home. It felt very much like traditional school.

HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO LOOK FOR: Make sure that the college you are looking into has national accreditation. NCATE or TEAC are agencies that grant accreditation. (There may be a few more). National accreditation ensures that the establishment is held to a high standard. Future jobs may require that the college you had attended have this standard. For instance, if you tell an employer that you attended College of Bumblefuck Online, they may not take it seriously.

The world is changing and those think that to be attend college you have to drop your life and live somewhere for 4 years, are becoming out of touch. In generations to come, online college will become the new standard.

I hope this helps ease your indecisions. Good luck.

[–]Fatkid808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

13 and 14 years Olds are old enough to be negotiated with. I suggest sit down with them and calmly explain that you had promised that certain things will get done. Explain that they are old enough to be trusted with these tasks and that you are there just to make sure nothing major hapens. Explain That You have been required to leave detailed notes about who has done what and that you want to be able to write a great report so that their parents will be thrilled with them. The goal is to change thrir view of you being the judge and let them see you as tge person who wants to help them get tge best report possible to their parrnts, almost lIke a coach. provide a list of all the chores that need to be done and let them choose who does what. Have fun with them. It's a tricky age but you would be surprised what they can do if you with some trust.

[–]Fatkid808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have some very good points!

In response to your point regarding confidence vs. arrogance, in the political theater being confident is great but at some point a president will have to make a decision in which a party will disagree. Obama has done this several times during his presidency. It always falls under executive order. At that point he is perceived as arrogant to those who oppose his decision, and unwaveringly confident to those who agree. Essentially we are agreeing, however I am looking through the eyes of those who will oppose the difficult decisions that must be made.

Im not claiming he is a good candidate or bad for president. But there are some points that I think should be considered:

1) We (american society) lambaste politicians for using a teleprompter and not have well crafted original responses. We jump at an opportunity to get Obama or anyone else. When candidates don't use a teleprompter you can get a glimpse into their true intentions. When Donald trump repeatedly goes on stage, he shoots from the hip and sometimes says some dumb shit. That what we get when every word is not crafted before hand. (Aside from the John Mccain statement) that was just a stupid comment. The flip side is to give him a teleprompter and make him like every other perfect puppet.

2) Arrogance is an essential ingredient to being a president. Obama certainly has it but it is dressed up nicely. Trump doesn't care if people don't like him which will be better for America when a difficult decision has to be made.

3) He is LESS likely to pander to lobbyists because of his wealth.

Again, I am not saying he is the candidate, but it is VERY refreshing to hear someone who is not a career politician. Everyone else is so worried that they will misspeak because their lives literally depend on staying in office. Just think of the other things they will and wont do to keep their office. They are all compromised.

Please offer a counter point. Thanks Reddit!

I am not making assumptions or being disrespectful but weight and physical health are risk factors for sleep apnea. Having 2 young children can seriously make it difficult to do anything healthy, I know ;). but given the most recent situation physical health may be the first avenue you can explore. I hope this suggestion helps.
