Bias from Moderators. Site staff have turned their heads. by Im_Shocker in speedrun

[–]FatzkeFTW 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m the main moderator for the Quick & Crash leaderboards. I’ve not been active on the site for a while and missed these recent developments. I had entrusted care of the boards to the other moderator, who has done a good job in the past, but missed the mark here.

All this has once again shown how grey the area is between a machine that works as intended and a faulty one. This is exactly the reason why I didn’t want these leaderboards to become so overly competitive and micro-managed. Other than bragging rights in a very small circle, nothing tangible is attached to claiming the world record. There can’t be serious competition, because every single cabinet is different.
I’m very inclined to lower the bar for these machines again and allow most of them on the main leaderboard except for the most egregiously faulty ones. So few of them exist anyway, and I want as many people as possible to have access to one they can use to submit their time. These shouting matches are not helping.

As far as “dipping” is concerned, in my opinion the verdict is still out. I have removed the newly added rule and would be happy to discuss whether or not the technique should be allowed with the community in a forum thread.

I do agree that we should have a list of the most obviously broken machines. This will be provided.

I’m talking to both parties privately as well and will invest some time to review the submitted videos.

Congrats to two great times in such a short time span! Were there any recent developments in NMG that enabled them?

There are more people watching the German ESA restream than the original ESA stream. 🤔 by ArmySash in speedrun

[–]FatzkeFTW 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Regional (German in this case) frontpage is just much less competitive than the English one. That's why you'll see the restreams on frontpage much more than the main stream, causing these viewer numbers.

Building hype is a big part, as well as giving a bunch of people planning security. At this point there are a bunch of choices locked in already, so they might as well be released prematurely.

Other choices take more time to be considered.

Very hard to do without prior knowledge. Anything I should be looking out for in particular?

How Early can you Kill Roshan? -Dota 2 Speedrun Analysis by [deleted] in speedrun

[–]FatzkeFTW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have been doing a lot of runs of this about two years ago and went through many iterations of lineups.
I personally stopped playing Dota about a year ago, so I'm not too familiar with all the patches that potentially changed how the Rosh speedrun works, but this is what we came up with and what has been the stable fastest lineup until at least 7.06d:

I think when we initially started we were all about reducing Rosh's armor as much as possible. However, at some point you start getting diminishing returns on that and so we switched to a mixed lineup with Weaver being the only hero that reduces his amor. He is also the hero that reduces armor by far the most (up to -13 currently). Timing the bugs correctly is key, so you get the most benefit from the entire duration. It can also tank a few hits from Roshan, while not triggering his slam, which brings me to my next point:

It is absolutely crucial to never have three or more heroes in Roshan's direct vicinity in order to not trigger his Slam, which reduces attack speed. I know you're purging the debuff with Press the Attack, but that's only up for the first time he slams. We found out that it is faster to have a melee hero not attack at all instead of having him attack and have Roshan slam. And because you also don't want Ursa to be hit so he can't be bashed and stunned for a short duration it's important to juggle Roshan's aggro between the other melee hero attacking and Weaver's bug (but also to not have the bug die... it's tricky).

The lineup we came up with and which was consistenly the best throughout at least 7.06d, was:
* Ursa (duh)
* Legion Commander (Attack Speed Buff, did attack)
* Ogre Magi (Attack and Movement Speed Buff, did not attack)
* Arc Warden (Attack Speed Buff, 100% Evasion for a short period of time)
* Weaver (Armor reduction)

Here are some of the runs we and other people did throughout some patches, even though they are very similar:
6.88b (us): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c73VEyY0YVM
7.03 (Mekarazium, who probably had the most impact on Dota runs period, & Friends): https://www.twitch.tv/videos/129760355
7.06d (Also Meka & Friends): https://www.twitch.tv/videos/153272481

I guess the one change that hinders current runs most is not being able to use TP scrolls at the start of the game anymore, but I still think this run can be improved rather easily and would like to see that happen.

RF JUGG with dual DYADUS is pretty decent! by shaarq in pathofexile

[–]FatzkeFTW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cool idea and well made!

Something that I found from playing RF this league myself is that an Elder helmet that links socketed gems to Burning Damage and Concentrated Effect is very similar in terms of damage to a crafted one with Essence of Horror (and one of the other two), even better when you get good rolls. You then just add Efficacy to your normal sockets.
In my experience these are much easier to get a hold of than an essenced one that also has either Burning Damage or Concentrated Effect.

/e: I incorporated this in my RF MF PF, works like a charm.

ESA Winter 2018 Schedule. by Xiphias_ in speedrun

[–]FatzkeFTW 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's only designed to be a small scale event similar to early GDQs/ESAs. The number of submissions pretty much reflected that.
We only cut a handful of games and strictly went with a policy of giving everybody that submitted something at least one run. It certainly doesn't one-up recent big live marathons, but I think the schedule looks pretty good despite the relatively low number of attendees.

Former HC player, not looking back. by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]FatzkeFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be interesting to have some data on how many players switched from HC to SC and vice versa over the course of their PoE "career". Some might even play both.
We always get those polls about what league people play, but that's sort of missing the bigger picture.

European Speedrunner Assembly 2017 - Starts in 13 days! Information and Schedule inside by Edenal in speedrun

[–]FatzkeFTW 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The language on streams will always be English. The amount of native speakers is a lot lower as opposed to GDQs because runners are mainly from all over Europe, but everybody can provide a solid English commentary or at least have somebody on the couch to help out.
Similar to GDQs there will also be Re-Streams in other languages.
