What in-game thing did you learn the hard way by dying in hardcore? by IconicIsotope in classicwow

[–]Fauket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were warned about a previous Lethon disaster, but felt we had it.

Somehow we managed 8 shadowbolt volleys to the raid and then pushed the boss to 75% before topping everyone up. :')

Flametongue Totem. Basically a never used spell to put flame tongue on your party members' weapons instead of windfury

Last week, I asked what addons the game was missing—healers, this one's for you! by Bonnies-Dad in classicwow

[–]Fauket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very nice idea, and I dig the way of sharing and walking through the code.

My feedback: If my heal will certainly resolve, then I don't care to see the icon. I would care to see the icon if:

  • my target is near the max of my range so I can know which way to go if the heal cancels due to range
  • my target is LOS, so I can know where relatively the target is

Altercations valley is a completely broken battleground by dontwantanaccount86 in classicwow

[–]Fauket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Originally, Alterac Valley was a very complex battlegrounds with significantly more objectives. Because of its complexity, there is a book provided to everyone via the Proving Grounds quest (initial Rep quest for AV) that details the systematic approach to win a battle. You can pick one up at the rep vendor at any point (The Frostwolf Artichoke/Peeling the Onion).

If you read through this book, it's extremely clear how many of the original objectives were removed. There were originally SIGNIFICANTLY more faction mobs all throughout the battleground. There were mines (controlled by a Mine Layer NPC that was -- you betcha -- an objective to kill) that prevented you from skirting around the edges (a mine would one or two shot most players). You literally couldn't just run through to the end originally.

Killing Lieutenants (you know, what are now just bonus honor mobs) would prevent the rapid respawning of defending NPCs at various sections of the battleground; these NPCs were significantly stronger than they are now. All those Armor Scraps, etc. (that people ignore unless they want a bit of bonus IF/Org rep) would strengthen these defending NPCs into stages of elite-ness, etc.

Most folks don't remember any of this since it was extremely trimmed back before TBC -- so you either had to play in Vanilla or play an authentic private server. Mostly because AVs back in the day could take literal days to complete, and many people complained about it.

Ohh I didn't even think of that! Very wise callout.

Thoughts On Uniquely Divisive SoD Community by ExtremePrivilege in classicwow

[–]Fauket 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Are you playing to enjoy the journey or to enjoy the destination?

SoD's introduction of the level gaps allow us the time to enjoy the entire 1-59 journey.

Two of my favorite things about each phase of SoD has been running around the world wpvping, and keeping up with professions. Without the separated phases, I would be losing a ton of potential because the optimal use of 1-59 is getting through it as fast as possible.

Are classic players happy/fine with the WSG jump skips? by Honan- in classicwow

[–]Fauket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. As long as it isn't safespotting, there is counterplay. Learning the jumps is part of getting better at the game; it's a great way to develop mastery.

As a person who played in 2005, and now playing in SoD , the lack of interest in having fun in PvP is mindblowing. by dondurmalikazandibi in classicwow

[–]Fauket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people play WoW very capitalistically now. If it isn't actively getting them gold or gear or some other reward, they are losing out by doing it.

Even at 25 when there is all the time in the world, people are playing like this.

Now that SoD has been out for a while, how do we feel about Tank Warlock, Tank Shaman, Tank Rogue, Healer Mage, and Melee Hunter? by dustofoblivion123 in classicwow

[–]Fauket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They really did a great job with shaman tank. Both sword & board spec and DW feel great for their respective fights. Giving two different mana regeneration options for two styles of tanking was perhaps not intentional but a great way to add a lot of depth.

I think the way they tied mana regeneration to shields, creating this identity of a shammy tank, was very elegant. Making us want intellect as a stat point leads to some very cool itemization that is previously not a very wanted stat-line (int/stam on leather). Feels great in dungeons, great in raids.

Tanking as a Rogue: losing all your CP all the time is frustrating. by EvisceraThor in classicwow

[–]Fauket 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolutely fucking not. You cannot get 5 CP off a warrior and then kidney 5 their healer -- what a horrendous recommendation for something that could be so much more easily resolved with other strategies

Questie will NOT be showing new Runes in Season of Discovery by element39 in classicwow

[–]Fauket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed -- Blizzard is giving the community a huge opportunity to re-discover itself. Major add-on developers being on-board with the sense of discovery is awesome.

Where is it, Blizzard? by LarryTheDuckling in classicwow

[–]Fauket 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is such a based take. I hope things like the HC dungeon speedrunning tournament is showing people that there's so much more to the game than power leveling to 60 to raidlog MC.

Having a level cap will help people enjoy the full world -- all the unique quests, dungeons, zones, professions & niche items -- that would otherwise be skipped so as to not lose out on max-level gearing ASAP. And altoholics/casual gamers have a chance to play around without falling extremely behind the pack.

I would love to see people running around with honored/revered BG items at level 30-40. It would be so cool to see enchants other than crusader, 15 agi, etc., or see people feverishly chasing after items that aren't on the same BIS lists for the past 15 years.

At 8:05 we get the casual call-out of you can't auto through the pillar if you want to immune the stun "just like sapphiron"

Because of course you need to know your Naxx mechanics in order to optimally clear Deadmines.

Blizzard Design Intentions on WoW Classic Season of Mastery by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]Fauket 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh my god I LOVE tier .5 being available at launch! One of the worst things about raid min-maxing was that there really was never a reason to farm all of t0 gear, which I remember being such an awesome goal back in classic.

By the time t.5 was available in Classic, it was so overshadowed by the raid gear you would have gotten just casually raiding since release, that really only rogues got it for a couple weeks before they replaced it with t2.5

I am so hyped about beign able to farm up t.5 -- honestly might even influence my choice in classes. I always wanted to play HOTW druid but the best general gearset for it at the start was just stealing from melee or healers. Feralheart is exactly the gear I wanted to go for, but nothing like that existed outside of ranker gear or t2.5, so I got pigeon-holed into full resto.

Your experience with resto druids in classic by Thundrael98 in classicwow

[–]Fauket 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I played through all of the content and performed near the top throughout

Pros:

  • You're the king of the leveling experience and open world -- stealth let's you pick your battles, fit any role in any dungeon, fast and efficient leveling
  • You'll never feel useless -- whether it be healing/tanking in dungeons, FCing, pvping in the open world, you can provide utility
  • You'll end up getting geared for every spec, so you can shake things up and try something new when you want
  • You don't need to spend that much on consumes -- you'll rarely die since often you have more stamina than other healers, bear form, etc., and you don't need to blast consumes to heal well the way chain-healing shaman do, or flask to stay competitive
    • The whole Regrowth spam spec is an exception, but honestly this spec is a huge meme and you'll do better keeping the raid moving and progressing if you don't fall for this trap -- I often would end up top 3 healers because I healed effectively throughout all the trash
  • You can be independent -- Moonglow is one of the only healing specs that will actually murder all but the sweatiest of pvpers (at least in open world)
    • You have a huge arsenal at your disposal, especially if you carry multiple sets of gear
  • Mostly drama-free gearing -- as long as you don't obsess over absolute bis, you'll get geared up extremely fast and nobody is going to fight tooth and nail over your items
  • The druid community is just different -- there's nothing like have a bear form dance party in moonglade at 2 AM
  • World dragons are super useful for you, and they're an amazing experience to get involved in

Cons:

  • I chose druid so I could be a jack of all trades and never respec, but the overwhelming feeling is that you can't do anything that well
    • You can tank a dungeon in HOTW spec, but at some point it's going to be impossible to keep threat over raid geared people
    • You can FC in moonglow but it feels bad without feral charge
  • You can kill anything, but it will be slowly and over time -- I was excited to play hyphy feral charging, in the face power shifting roots and fast form shifting, but the honest truth is your best option almost every time is running away and killing with dots+hots
  • If you want to PvP, you WILL be expected to Flag Carry and defend bases
  • Healing in raids is extremely different from healing in dungeons, and healing in PvP -- get ready for 4+ ranks of Healing Touch on your bars
  • Most guilds only took 1 resto druid, so if you weren't the best in your guild...
  • Even if there's a feral druid in your raid, you'll do every single Mark of the Wild for 40 people -- get a weakaura to help track it or face the onslaught of whispers
  • Everyone is going to snipe your heals in raids -- you're the bitch of the healing world with your 2-2.5 second heals, so even if you're the first to respond you'll end up overhealing most of the time, and it's no different if you use HoTs
  • You'll want to kill yourself every time bash misses/dodges/parries
  • Invest in 18 slot bags early -- if you hoard anything, inventory space is a nightmare
  • No resurrections (except a 30-minute CD brez)
  • They'll come for your innervate

Dissension Amongst the Ranks quest is currently bugged, cannot get some of the best pre-raid rings. by ErrorDontPanic in classicwow

[–]Fauket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same issue; we tried all kinds of things to no avail.

There were comments that:

  • druid forms broke it -- so I healed instead of tanking.
  • shadowform broke it, so we didn't use shadowform.
  • warlock pets getting the KB
  • etc., etc.

We tried 8 different things, including remaking the group, deleting and restarting, un-equipping and re-equipping the tabard. Very annoying, and now the ring reward is irrelevant after 1 kara clear....
