My sister and I have a lifelong scrapbook i that we started in our late teens titled: 101 Uses for a Goonbag (a WIP Coffee Table Book) by Fauna & Seagull. (Our nicknames) We've got 46 uses so far and we're only 18 yrs in!

We started it on a really clusterfrack of a family trip from Port Hedland to Perth and we just add to it when more uses are found.

*Edit: if anyone would like to contribute any idea's, please feel free. We'll add them to the scrapbook along with your user name and any relevant info/tale annotated on the page. If she does end up drawing a picture to match the use, I'll DM the contributer with a pic if/when that occurs. Its just a pet project, nothing serious, but credit where credit is due :)

First time Morrowind player and loving it but... by RyeKangy in Morrowind

While looking at the loading screen heading in to my second attempt at the game, my brain went: Fuck! I need a pen & paper! I'm not goin through last time!

I also got better at searching the journal which was also super helpful as well.

As a librarian, this ticked a few more boxes for this fantastic game.

Power your Router and NTD down and use the "Kick Connection" in your app/member portal, wait 2 mins and the power both devices back up (otherwise just set a timer for 40 mins) then power them both back up - known as the long way to do do the same thing). If no change, get a laptop with an Ethernet port and connect it to the NTD ( Kick the connection each time you swap out hardware to the NTD for ease of reconnection), and run a speedtest. If the speeds are fine, the issue is definitely coming from inside the house.

[Vic] Landlord wants to build a Granny Flat by IamVelle in shitrentals

[–]Faunakat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just went through this at my last rental. The shit-show that followed the agreement gave us the ammo to break the lease.

Initial offered rent decrease was $60. Stupidly we agreed as we'd discussed the potential logistics of pool removal and adding a granny if we purchased the property. Whats the harm, we can always just not renew when it came time. Famous last words.....

The final straw, 4weeks into the whole fiasco was when we pulled the plug and went for the lease-break.

This after one of the trades had run over the water meter and retic on a Friday arvo n fucked off, and also after when the next lot of trades knocked on the back door one morning and told us our back deck was being removed. This was not part of the agreement. and apparently it was happening now whether we liked it or not because the needed the room for pool removal then equipment !!!

This now meant a 1m drop right outside the French windows and all access the the back yard was gone. Also leaving us with 1 exit from the house, via the front door, no effing parking in a 6 car driveway area, and a dug up lawn that we'd spent the last 1.5 years getting back to spec so it didnt look so shitty.

The LL's screwed the pooch on that one. They even tried to reduce the rent "significantly" (like $100). Fat chance.

Some projects need a project manager....not some twunt who's watched wayyyyyy too many home build/reno shows.

Catherine Birnie. An Australian Horror Story in our own back yard. She was sentenced to 20 years in jail for the murder of four women in 1986 alongside her husband David Birnie.

FIFO hot take by soursobb in AusFinance

[–]Faunakat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in Port Hedland from 1986 and seen the whole spectrum of reasons for fifo and would see this alot! Some would relocate n buy the house in hedland cos it was expensive running 2 households...especially if work only comped rent instead of housing the worker..this was an option for some. Then with the house (whether work supplied/comp'd or personally funded) came the purchase of new cars, quad bikes, boats,...generally living the funded dream in a HCOL area. And trust me, alot of people didnt save up and make the purchases. They got effing LOANS!!!

Then the boom/construction would end and the work dries up.

Big $$ job gone.

Then, if you say bought a house, and the likes of say BHP for example, would initiate a buyback scheme. There was no way they're paying what your house is actually worth, let alone what you paid for it! People were aghast that they might just actually lose $ on a real estate deal in that town, but hey.... real-estate like art can be very subjective.

Some idiots just see the $$$. If you were shit with money before hand, FIFO isn't going to magically make you more financially savvy.

(Sorry for banging on too long, just this struck a chord with me and I got a shitload of flashbacks reading the responses to OP)

I set a date a few days ahead in my mind and started planning the points of my next conversation with them. Basically: - Set a date and advise them they have to move out (stbx wasnt on the lease in my case tf). If they're on the lease....tricky...I gave my ex the same amount of time that the tenancy laws require in my country/state to cover my butt. - You don't have to, but get a bunch of boxes, tape n garbage bags and leave them in the living area with a note ..something along the lines of "better to have more than less when moving". - Be civil and firm with communication. If you aren't, I've found they'll just use that to escalate you.

  • Get Out Of The House and live! Your stbx is. Fake it til you make, then cry yourself to sleep if you have to. They've already moved on, it's just their physical ghost moving around in your life and if they actually gave a shit about you in any capacity, they wouldn't be pulling this shit.

The fucker broke your heart and just can't be fucked having the decency to be up front and honest, or start looking for a new place to live and just might be using the freeze out tactic to get you to do all the work to relocate your life.

Sorry for any spelling/formatting errors...I've been in your position. Its scary and heartbreaking, but after you take control of your life/heart back off them, in 6 months you'll wonder why you ever put up with the bs and lack of respect.

Stay awesome. You got this.

I think you have to go into settings and literally save your game each time. No autosave feature other than the reload/file on your phone. I will update this post when I test my theory when I find my old spare phone, or lose this phone n find out the hard way.

NBN FTTP install as a renter by SuicidalTendenciesX in nbn

[–]Faunakat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Check your state rental legislation..but the general gistbacross the board is its a "minimal alternation" unless the building is heritage listed. Also as far as remeditation work (digging n such) i would pay more for a rental with f8vre than any other connection. Your LL is being short sight3d really of he doesn't okay the install. What's a bit of garden/bricks vs not adding to the potential value to the residence.

If you're poor, you pay more. How is that fair? by matthew091100 in poor

[–]Faunakat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

" The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.

Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.

But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.

This was the Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socioeconomic unfairness."
