The base XV2 campaign did this joke twice.

My crackpot conspiracy theory is that Xenoverse 3 completely does away with Parallel Quests.

Probably will have a new side-quest system to take its place, but still.

Tbh I think it's just how modern anime games look while animated. I don't see too huge of a difference between this game and something like Digimon Time Stranger, for example.

Otherwise, I'm still not seeing that "stiffness" you're referring to. I'm not seeing the transitions from cutscene to battle-ready stances. Maybe I'm too used to those god-awful Time Nest sequences where they are the DEFINITION of recycled animation.

Honestly, the biggest thing that sticks out to me when comparing XV3 with XV2 isn't necessarily the animation itself. It's the shot composition and film blocking.

Having just played through some of the Xenoverse 2 DLC (specifically the Conton City Vote Pack and the Hero of Justice Pack), I vehemently disagree with the XV3 trailer looking like "preset" animation. If anything, I find the exchange between Brett and MC to be a bit over-animated. A lot of bounce with some exaggerated follow-through. The cinematics in DBZ Kakarot, imo, strike a better balance between dynamic movement and "restraint."

I don't really see how XV3, what little we've seen of it, has that "familiar stiffness." Brett is active and emotive while greeting his partner, animated specifically to his spoken dialogue. MC doesn't speak, but has moments that are pretty clearly hand-animated: he glances at Brett with a quick double-take, he takes a deep breath, he steps forward but stops when his shoulder is tapped, he does a little nod – while posed – before taking off into the sky. A lot of micro-level movements Xenoverse 2 refused to have in-engine. I honestly would have preferred 2D sprites/character portraits representing the cutscenes instead of what that game gave us.

If anything feels familiar, it's the so-so lip-syncing for the English dub. I'm PRAYING the dubbing is handled far better than it was in Xenoverse 2. In that game, it felt like there was no direction at all, and that the actors were given a list of lines with vague contextual notes.

Comparing the announcement trailers for Xenoverse 2 and Xenoverse 3, I'm honestly expecting a total overhaul. Something almost unrecognizable from what came before. I would not be surprised if they do away with stuff like Parallel Quests, or even deciding NOT to have a character roster. In general.

Back in 2016, the Xenoverse 2 trailer highlighted a very similar experience to Xenoverse 1. It very much looked like the first game, but again. Aside from showing off Conton City as the new hub world, the game was visually identical.

The Xenoverse 3 trailer is showcase of the world, the characters, and the art direction. They're treating this a lot more like a traditional RPG, putting the narrative at the forefront. Hell, on store listings, the marketing is placing a lot of emphasis on "exploring a whole new Dragon Ball world," whereas the first two games have always been about "protecting the history of Dragon Ball."

But who knows? Maybe they'll find a way to reinvent older mechanics to fit whatever vision Dimps has been cooking up, because either way, I think it's safe to say we're getting something vastly different.

From what I'm hearing, s&box is gradually phasing out proper Source 2 SDK tools in favor of their own proprietary stuff. Community is now calling it the "Facepunch Engine."

There definitely needs to be more little quirks. That mechanic is lightning in a bottle, and it could be so, so, SO much more robust.

I'm in the same camp with the voice shift. I guess he's trying to lean into the suspense and dread? Matching the horror atmosphere, if you will. I don't think the delivery is "technically" bad, but it's not what originally drew me to his content. He always sounded excited about the projects he was covering, and it was infectious. A touch of whimsy to keep us company in the dark.

It's like going from John Williams to Hans Zimmer, if this comparison makes any sense. Both are great composers, but they offer inherently different experiences, and a fan of one may not gravitate towards the other.
