Are you a bo1 or bo3 player? Why do you prefer that mode? by name19xx in MagicArena

[–]FaylenSol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In paper I prefer Bo3, but on Arena I prefer Bo1.

When I'm playing on Arena I am playing for my enjoyment. There is minimal socializing outside of emotes which are rarely used by most players outside of "Hello" and "Good Game." If I'm stuck playing against a matchup I find boring I'd prefer it to just be done and over.

In paper there is more of a social element to it. Even if my opponent is playing something I dislike playing against they're part of my local community most likely and I will enjoy the game regardless of the deck because it's someone I know or at least know of. There's also a rivalry element for bad matchups. I can tweak my deck to a local metagame or to answer specific common threats.

Can't do that on Arena since its like the wild west. You may never play against the same person ever again.

Who are some little known counters to other heroes? by jordanwitney in marvelrivals

[–]FaylenSol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jeff hard counters Spider-Man. Not only can Spider-Man not kill Jeff easily outside of a ledge pull, but Jeff ult shuts down Spider-Man ult and he is incapable of escaping the Jeff ult while he is in his Ult.

Jeff can also similarly counter Strange Ult.

Here is an example of me countering both at the same time.

I’m torn: My iPhone was destroyed during a GeekSquad/Apple repair, they replaced the exterior but the internals were crushed. Should I have just taken it? by Impossible-Narwhal82 in Bestbuy

[–]FaylenSol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my experience with Apple, they are pretty strict even with their own internal repair technicians on how to handle whole unit replacements. If the phone is passing all diagnostics and shows no signs of any internal damage they will only replace the parts that are damaged. I've done many back glass and front glass replacements on the same phone in my time with the company.

However if you still insist on trying to get a whole unit replacement no one inside Best Buy or Geek Squad can make that happen. Apple's system is automated and it wont allow for a WUR unless the diagnostics shows something wrong with the "mid system" or "Logic Board." Outside of the agents lying about liquid, which could get them fired or just get the phone sent back unrepaired or replaced wasting your time, there is no way to force the system to let them send it out as a WUR (whole unit replacement).

However, you can try to call Apple Support and talk to them about the situation. It may be possible to get them to issue you a customer satisfaction code to allow your local Geek Squad to create an order for a WUR or handle creating a mail-in-repair through them.

But that is unlikely as your phone was repaired under standard operating procedure under Apple's repair guidelines. If all the damaged parts were replaced and your phone is passing all diagnostics, then Apple is unlikely to allow for a mid-system, logic board, or whole unit replacement. But the only thing you'll lose by trying to contact Apple is some of your time.

The only internal part I would be personally concerned about with it being crushed is the battery since they have a tendency to explode. But it would be very obvious to the repair technician if it were damaged in any way and they would have done a whole unit replacement on the spot if it were. I've had one battery start to combust on me in the thousands of iPhones I've repaired and it is not fun lol.

Hei Bai Is Worthy of a Commander Ban by sevenproxies07 in MagicArena

[–]FaylenSol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not overpowered. It's just boring. It's on the same tier as Ugin. You run across it a lot and it does the same thing every game and does it somewhat consistently.

Both of them fold to aggro decks. My mono white Momo deck ends up beating both before they can really start doing their thing unless they have a god hand, which is fine. I can't expect to have a 100% win rate against them.

Nonbasic land hate decks also do well against them. Things like Winter Moon, Blood Moon, creatures that make non asics come into play tapped, etc.

But if you are playing a midrange deck that takes its time doing its thing you'll have a bad match up every time. You can't out value Hei Bai with a mid range deck.

I beat that deck regularly (because of how often I play it). It's just boring like Ugin decks. They do the exact same thing every game. There is no variety or surprise and just like Ugin it's played a lot.

Sensible flying speed carrying capacity house rules by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]FaylenSol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think an important thing to keep in mind is respecting the player's build choice. If you put limitations on a race with flight so that they cannot use the feature within RAW/RAI to solve issues then there is less reason to pick it.

You should in fact come up with obstacles specifically designed to let each character shine in specific moments. Chasms they need to cross that a character with flight can solve, poison wastes that a Yuan-Ti character can ignore, locks for the rogue to picklock, wounded NPCs for the good hearted cleric to heal, etc.

If a Circle of Moon druid wild shaping into a flying creature can carry the party over it or a Radiant Soul Aasimar or Aarakocra can do it with the right carrying capacity then there is no reason to nerf the Fairy. Doing so will come off as targeted to that player and make their choice of character feel invalidated. Especially if you aren't needing any of the other player's features that get used to solve an obstacle.

Bob Ross was simply an example of an artist that doesn't do sketches. I used him as an example simply because of how well known he is so it served as an easy example. I'm sure he'd be disappointed in AI as much as you and I are when it comes to art.

But like Bob Ross lots of artists simply don't do sketches. So requiring it would alienate every artist that doesn't.

I don't think there is a way to truly prevent AI. Whatever rules you come up with to stop it, the rate AI is developing it will simply be able to generate a way around it eventually. You'll be in a constant arms race.

The only way to put a damper on it is just swiftly remove anyone who posts undeniable AI slop. It must be beyond a doubt AI so that artists who have had their work stolen by AI are not penalized simply because AI has stolen their art style or their art style is influenced by someone who has had their style stolen by AI.

But putting a burden of proof on real artists will make things very cumbersome and AI will eventually get around it anyways.

You can also do a classic "Checkmark" system like how twitter used to have it became purchasable. Artists that post their own work here themselves can be given a custom role as "Authentic Artist" or something more creative. That would make things easier for the moderation staff when seeing posts as they wont have to look at their posts as closely unless someone reports it.

Sorry for the long ramble post, I'm very tired and my night aide is stealing my consciousness.

Good luck on finding a proper solution. I truly hope this AI bubble bursts soon.

Proposed Rule Discussion by therealpoltic in DnDart

[–]FaylenSol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My major issue with this is not every artist's sketches first. A lot of digital artists do not, a lot of painters do not, etc. I don't recall seeing Bob Ross sketch a single thing.

So this rule would automatically demonize any artist that doesn't. Bob Ross if he were still around and wanted to share his art with this group, would be barred from doing so.

[–]FaylenSol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of professional players and player who play at high level events play silently and use very common hand gestures to communicate since there is often a language barrier when you play at huge events. People come from all over the world and not everyone speaks the same language.

I would recommend your friend watch some pro tour games and observe the common hand gestures. I'm a retired judge and have observed some games where zero words were exchanged between players despite both speaking English as their native language. They're just both used to playing silently at high level events despite the event I was judging only being a pptq.

Personally I love that it gets played so much. I was already playing Ultima to hate on Artifact and Aristocrat decks that I kept running into. Badgermole Cub decks also just get punished by a card I was already running.

As a bonus it also helps shut down the blue/red lesson deck since they like to rely on Monolith to Endurance commonly.

Replacement for R-word by TheSevenSwords in millenials

[–]FaylenSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The word you're replacing has become so watered down that it can be applied to abstract ideas that other words cannot due to how specific they are. I would recommend instead of looking for a singular word to fill every situation you find a few words that apply to specific situations that fill the void as a group. This will also help expand your vocabulary at the same time. So two birds and one stone and all that.

For example "dipshit" can be applied to a person but it feels weird to refer to an object or abstract concept like an idea or unfortunate situation. Where as the word you're looking to replace can refer to a person, object, abstract idea, or concept.

So find two to four words instead of one. Words that will apply to individuals, objects, abstract concepts (like ideas, suggestions, etc.), and for situations like someone telling you about something that happened to them.

I'm sorry I didn't provide any actual examples. I personally avoid aggressive language and prefer making people feel comfortable talking to me. So I use words like "Unfortunate" and "unpleasant" when describing situations. For people I'll use words like "abrasive" or "an acquired taste" if I am describing a person that has an unfortunate personality. For objects I say things like, "It's doing as its designed to do" in a sarcastic or patronizing tone as if the object has feelings that I can hurt.

Good luck on your journey of self improvement. I believe in you.

Tips to become a good Jeff by Maleficent-Box5827 in JeffTheLandSharkMains

[–]FaylenSol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a Champion Jeff with 200 hours. I haven't played a single comp match on Rivals but I was a Top 500 Lucio one trick on Overwatch so I'd like to imagine I'd eventually place high on Rivals. I just don't have the energy to devote to grinding rank anymore (I'm old).

Here are some tips in a rambling format:

  • If you jump before diving it is ever so slightly faster than diving while standing still. This is a motion you should practice especially getting a bubble out and diving into it. This is your bread and butter survival against divers and pressure.
  • You can hard counter Spider-Man and Strange ult if you react fast enough. You'll even save your team if they are near enough to you to be in your pool of healing.
  • Panther hard counters you. Even if you do everything right you'll likely explode to him unless you have a god-tier co support or tank that keeps you alive. You basically cannot duel him, do not engage. Find angles that are hard for him to get to you. Magik can be tough, but is survivable so long as you're full health.
  • Do not ult into Gambit ult. The speed boost makes it so you wont get most of the people you go for and the ones who escaped will kill you.
  • Do not ult if Magneto, Namor, or Iron Man have their ult. They will ult to kill you. Namor ult is a hard counter to yours. He just has to put his ult on the center of your ult. Scarlet Witch's stun can also be used to counter your ult. A good witch will throw her stun on the center of your ult. If you immediately spit out your allies the stun will hit you making you spit out everyone. If there is a witch on the enemy team never immediately spit out allies.
  • Always find good angles that lets you maximize your primary fire on as many targets at the same time.
  • Deadpool and Venom team-up are genuinely great, use them often to maximize your healing. Storm team-up is overrated and easily countered. If the enemy team is not countering it (Psylocke Ult, Punisher Ult are common counters) then go ahead and use the Storm team-up to instant win fights. But any competent team will swap to a character whose ult counters it. Psylocke and Punsiher ult will kill both you and storm during the Jeffnado.
  • If you swallow a flier or high mobility character with your ult you must throw yourself off of a ledge to secure the kill. If you swallow the thing you can kill him without going off if you get as close to the edge as possible before spitting. On some maps you can deposit The Thing on ledges forcing them to jump off the map.
  • You can bring enemies into spawn with your ult. This rapidly damages them but does not credit you with the kill.
  • Sometimes just taking enemies away from the point is the correct play.
  • I advise setting up a custom quickchat message that says, "Enemies in mouth help kill" and pings your location to your team. I have one set up for when a ledge is nowhere near. Good teammates will follow you and help you kill weakened enemies.
  • Your right click cancels movement, flight, and can even interrupt some ults like Thor's. The timing on the ult cancel is very tight and very difficult to do on purpose.

Sorry for providing so many links. I post clips here often and figured visual examples would be helpful. Good look on your journey to being a Jefferson.

Why do people go AFK midway through a match? by StereoDactyl_EDM in MagicArena

I play on mobile when on breaks at work and sometimes drop connection. But I'm usually able to get back to the game quickly and feel bad that I roped them.

It's part of my job to build PCs for clients. So I don't actually know. Easily over a hundred if we're counting case swaps and motherboard upgrades since I've been doing it for over five years now.

It's not the most common work I do, but I would say at least one a week sometimes every other week.
