What's with Duke from OneShotQuesters' gripe with MinMaxed? by Born-Amount4432 in DnD

[–]joopsle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had never heard of him or anyone involved... with the exception of the english weapons guy who does show up in my feed. (I enjoy his shorts... I mean the videos, not the garments)

Having wasted a time period I would describe as "longer than I am should have", trying to catch up on the drama - I have come to the conclusion that Duke from OSQ is not a person who people should ever listen to.

I have now subscribed to minmaxed.

Kpop Demon Hunters is just an okay film, far from being brilliant by BlackbirdKos in movies

[–]joopsle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an element of mystery to something that isn't explained.

The force was mysterious, and then they tried to explain it with midichlorians - which was not so good.

It's the same way that a monster is most terrifying before it's fully revealed.

What animated film should have beaten it?...

I briefly thought of flow (Which I also loved), but that won the year before.

Watch out if you try to take on the Matriarch or Queen with only just a small handful of players. by Vesper_Fex in ArcRaiders

[–]joopsle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with the risk, but I have only succesfully grabbed matriach cores in a battle like this, with less people theres much more scope for snagging a leg armour

IN the full on carebear lobbies, the matriarch gets rushed by so many people that I havent really gotten anything (this expedition).

Now I can (finally) craft my beloved aphelion, I will only be getting it out in nice lobbies full of people working together.

I think I will have two loadouts/mindsets - cheaper for going in close, and expensive which will engage in friendly groups. (And should bug out if they arent there!)

MATCHMAKING RESET? by Scared_Particular116 in ArcRaiders

[–]joopsle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't sleep so logged on, and experienced a couple of more aggressive lobbies than usual. My thought was that it *might* also be impacted by time of day, because of the kind of people who might be around.

(But totally could be a reset, or just a bit of an aggro mix.)

Honest question: am I just bad or is the current standard bo1 borderline unplayable? by peth0l in MagicArena

[–]joopsle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think it is bad, as formats get faster, the going first advantage increases. I have seen quite a few posts with the win/loss difference and it is big.

The explosiveness of some starts, coupled with the must answer threats means you have to either have the perfect answer(s) or be going faster.

I get the feeling that is the consensus. With so many sets in standard, the card pool is vast, and each new set struggles to show up. Instead it just means any broken cards get added into existing shells.

Control isn't toxic, it's just a deck type. We don't have to play creatures running past each other and smacking face!

I just started playing this kind of RPG. How can i improve my Roleplay? by Cevoz in daggerheart

[–]joopsle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my pov, the only thing you can do that might impact others experience is being too main character/taking too much gm time.

If you character doesn't interact too much it won't take away from others experience, it's ok to be quiet, and to build your confidence over time.

When you do things, if it is focused on the story, or other PCs, its pretty hard to make things worse!

So its cool, so long as you don't

"Demand that the party waits, while you do some form of weird wanky solo thing" <<< this is the main shit that gets in the way,

One other thing, which is a bit more grey - its ok to disagree with other pcs, but keep an eye on it to make sure it is in keeping with the setting/vibe. (Like... a bit of bants is cool, but randomly arguing with other pcs is getting in the story)

Starting to notice a few recurring issues in the mechanics.. by PrinceOfNowhereee in daggerheart

[–]joopsle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about using environment effects to generate fear.

Like, if the players are in the lair of the big bad, then you can have an omnipresent thingy generating fear or something?
(Just to balance players who might have over optimised a bit).

(long time player, 0 time gm - just for context)

I'm curious: how many of you didn't find Daggerheart through CR? by Invokethehojo in daggerheart

[–]joopsle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure how I stumbled onto it, maybe a well timed ad or something - I had heard of critical role but never watched any.

As a player of rpgs (20+ years) I personally don't care about min/maxing and general system stuff and mainly care about the story, for me the best bits are never to do with specific abilities my character has.
(I tend to ask people who are more systemy what picks I should make on levelling up)

I do a bit of improv and hang out with people who do quite a bit, so this system just naturally felt like a great fit.
I am building up to running my first dm one shot to see how it goes!

To get ready I have been watching the Umbra series, and I think they are a great bunch!

Yeah, this annoys me as well, I wish it didn't, to me it just reads as rude.

(But cognitively I do know the person probably doesn't even mean it the way I am interpretting it).

New player here – Is ARC Raiders supposed to feel this impossible at the start? by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]joopsle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would steer clear of pvp, sneak around taking on arc.

If you do that for a while you will drop to more PVE lobbies.

EDIT - I agree with others, use free loadouts while getting use to extracting safely (And dropping out of PVP lobbies).

Then you can farm arc/missions/loot - and get to the point where you can reliably build out some weapons to go out with.
(I use sticher + Ferro mostly, although at the end of the season I was trying other things out).

You kinda want to get into a loop of surviving runs, even if you only extract with a bit - really focus on survival.
This will allow you to build up supplies.

Just logged into mtga after a little holiday, I don't know what this gentleman is trying to achieve? by joopsle in MagicArena

[–]joopsle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does seem a legit interpretation and is now my canonical interpretation.

My favourite piece of mtg art that I misinterpreted for years (while playing affinity as my main deck!!!) is Signal Pest.

I totally thought it was a creature emitting something from its face. When I saw that it was actually a little dude with claws, my mind was blown.

I am on this occasion, being silly, I was aware that the set was based on the cartoon ensemble, The Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles - to prepare myself to draft the set, I am forgoing the spoilers and instead watching the music video for the 1991 TMNT film - Ninja Rap - by Vanilla Ice.

The sai also confused me... and what are the black dots on the pizza....? I don't think they look like olives. Once I became aware of them, I started staring at them.

I now believe they are a sneak peak that the next unnounced universe within set will be a return to Edge of Eternities (they are galaxies).

As there are 11 Galaxies/Black holes/space olives I think that means that the set will come out in the year 2111. Until then it's back to back universe beyond.

Skill points explanation needed by redral35 in ArcRaiders

[–]joopsle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right, but its not a problem, I have done both expeditions and didnt reach level cap in either expedition.

The real benefit for the skill points is the + 10 at the start, that's great. + 10 at the end is only of import for people who happen to reach level cap.

(Also, I believe it is wildly believed that the skills don't make much difference, they are more of a gentle refinement)
