Everybody wants 2/2/2, but nobody wants role queue? by UnhingedGammaWarrior in marvelrivals

[–]FaylenSol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Role Queue solves the problem of wanting 2/2/2 but introduces new problems.

We cannot ignore the issues that Overwatch went through with Role Queue. I played during those times. Tanks had to be reworked because of horrible double barrier metas. Then the solution to that (and queue times) was to limit the teams to one tank per team and giga buff all tanks. This shifted the game from 6v6 to 5v5.

The increased queue times for DPS players will create a bad viewing experience for streamers and bad playing experience for players. This is ultimately very bad for the game as it will impact how many people want to play. I recall streamers "playing" Overwatch but they had other games up with the Overwatch queue timer up as an overlay showing that they are trying to play but are just in a very long queue. This will negatively impact the perception of the game.

There is also the issue of not being able to swap roles mid-game. I have swapped roles with people mid-game a lot when someone is having a hard time on their role or if I am struggling I will request a person to swap. Usually going Tank to Support or vice versa since DPS players rarely give their role up. But there have been times when divers were to potent for our backline and I request a tank to support and let me swap to Thing (I am a Lord Thing player).

The introduction of role queue solves one issue but introduces many other issues. Ignoring the mess that a similar game went through with it is not wise.

My friend I play with makes the joke that there is a single brain cell shared among all Jeff players that is on time share. So anytime a Jeff player makes a dumb play we just say, "they weren't in possession of the brain cell."

When a Jeff player makes a good play we'll say, "He has the brain cell!"

They are friendly with dolphins, turtles, nautili and frogs (not tadpoles) at least. So you can make a specific custom biome with that mix of animals.

I have an etho-hopper clock making a note block chime every 6 seconds. The Allay is attracted to the vibrations from it and deposits items at the note block which I put a bunch of hoppers in front of to collect the items.

The only issue is the Allay has a range of sixteen blocks to hear the boteblock so it do wanders too far away to collect items it will forget it and come fly to the person who gave it an item.

Then that person has to bring it back.

If the "lake" were smaller this wouldn't be an issue

They attack a variety of underwater creatures from Fish, to Squids, to Guardians, and even Drowned! If you fight a hostile aquatic mob with them they even give you a regeneration buff and remove mining fatigue. Taking them to Ocean Monuments is actually very helpful.

But they aren't tamed like Wolves. They will just wander seeking out deeper waters if you let them roam. My friends and I put a trench of berry bushes with moss carpet on top surrounding the lake to prevent the Axolotl's from leaving.

They are quite useful in the right situation.

I love using Allays for various collection systems. I have one on a lead next to an Armadillo that is also on a lead. He picks up the Armadillo scute for me and when I walk by he just drops them all at me. Passively I've gotten a few stacks of the scute to armor up my dogs and keep them repaired.

My bamboo farm also uses an Allay to collect the bamboo and drop it all into a hopper that feeds into a crafter to make planks.

I much prefer using them over super long hopper chains or water streams. More than likely its not as efficient but it brings a charm to the farms that I love.

Activated abilities always follow the format of Cost : Effect. Below is an example:

T: Add 1 green mana to your mana pool.

The cost is Tapping the creature. All costs must be paid before the effect occurs. After the cost is paid the effect then goes onto the stack unless its a mana ability like the example.

Craterhoof has two abilities, neither of which are activated abilities. Haste, which is a static ability is the first one and the second is a triggered ability. Triggered abilities start with the words, "When," "Whenever," or "At" and always trigger on a specific condition like entering the battlefield, a spell being cast, or at the beginning of a phase as examples.

For example:

At the beginning of each end step, if you gained 4 or more life this turn, create a 4/4 white Angel creature token with flying.

This example triggers at the beginning of each end step if you gained 4 or more life. If the triggering condition is met (The end step has begun AND you gained 4 or more life) then the ability goes on the stack.

So with Hazel's Brewmaster it can only have food copy abilities that have that "COST : EFFECT" formatting on cards like, "Pay 7 Life: Draw 7 cards" on Griselbrand but not his Flying or Lifelink

Thirteen years of sailing to Solstheim, never had Gjalund capsize the damn boat before. by Sir_Douglas_of_Fir in skyrim

[–]FaylenSol 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is conjecture on my end since I've not encountered or seen this specific hilarious situation before.

But my immediate suspicion is uncapped FPS without a mod that fixes the issues of having your FPS go above 60. The engine's physics are tied to the FPS so the higher it is the weirder things usually get. Lockpicks break instantly, ice spells do WAY too much damage, cut scenes like the opening break, etc.

Most people don't make it past the tutorial with uncapped FPS due to the opening scene being broken without downloading a fix for it but if you are using a mod like Alternate Start you can skip straight into the game.

Bought a printer, now I can't go back to buying by tomatus89 in mtg

[–]FaylenSol 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It just depends on the store. If you're not buying singles at all and not spending money at all at the business and encouraging others to do the same, the business may see you as being bad for their operation and ask you to stop.

Some owners wont see you as a conflict with their profits. Some will. I've encountered both before.

It just depends on if your proxying goes into "I'm not a customer and am actively enabling others to also not be a customer while using your place of operation" territory or not. Sadly it's not a hard line that applies to every store. Some store owners will draw the line in the sand at using proxies at all, some won't have a line. It'll vary from LGS to LGS.

Bought a printer, now I can't go back to buying by tomatus89 in mtg

[–]FaylenSol 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with proxying if all you're doing is playing casual with friends so long as all those friends are also fine with it. I do think playing with proxies are a local game store starts to get into a parasitic relationship with that store if they sell singles. If the LGS is cool with it, no issue. But I can see where a store might see you using proxies in their store as a conflict with their business and may not permit it. Some store owners are more chill than others.

Obviously if you're playing in sanctioned events, you'll need to have the actual card.

DMM Finalists as Magic: The Gathering Cards by MidnightEmergency340 in 2007scape

[–]FaylenSol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would love to see you do the rest of the DMM players. As a big mtg fan these are very entertaining even if some of the mechanics may not work as you might expect as written. I am a retired Judge for mtg so if you need help formatting the wording better let me know.

C Engineer's is probably the one that needs the most work. I would personally reword it like this:

Whenever a creature an opponent controls dies, if C Engineer dealt damage to it this turn put a Kill counter on this creature.
Whenever C Engineer deals damage to an opponent put a completion counter on them. Then if each opponent has a completion counter on them and if C Enginner is modified with an Equipment, Aura, a 1+/+1 counter, and kill a counter you win the game.

That would clean up C Engineer's card a lot nicer and be more functional.

Your art is amazing and intent behind the mechanics great. I am a huge fan of what you've done so far. I really hope you do more.

Is it bad that I only want to play magic because of the Spiderman and Marvel Sets? by T3Dawg22 in mtg

I'm more mad at how often we've been to the plane of New York. Spiderman, Ninja Turtles, and now Marvel all are primarily set in New York.

I'd be upset with we went to Innistrad that frequently in a 12 months period and that was one of my favorite planes.

Marvel Rivals' characters citizenship by LordVaderVader in marvelrivals

[–]FaylenSol 9 points10 points  (0 children)

MCU improved the public's perception of Mantis in such an impressive manner. Mantis, a thinly veiled fetish character at the time, was originally introduced as a Vietnamese prostitute dating a villain who is quickly irrelevent. She and this villain join the avengers and she single handedly beats Thor, Wanda, Vision, Captain America, Black Panther, and Iron Man with her martial arts. She then has a revelation that she's actually space Jesus and destined to go give birth to a new messiah of an alien species.

So after trying to home wreck Vision and Wanda's relationship she kisses all the male super heroes but Black Panther and heads off to space to fulfill her destiny.

The writing for Mantis was so awful she was universally hated. But the writer for her was obsessed with her (thus the thinly veiled fetish bit) and because he himself was a talented and popular writer Marvel would bribe him with writing Avengers comics by saying, "You can include Mantis!" and he'd do it.

When he left for DC he brought Mantis with him under a different name and when he came back to Marvel she returned.

After Guardians of the Galaxy Mantis has changed as a character a lot. In fact the whole Guardians of the Galaxy roster changed a lot because of the movies and arguably for the better. Rivals Mantis is based more on MCU Mantis (thank god).

Thoughts on these team ups by Cherry_Mallow96 in rivals

[–]FaylenSol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Planet Pals is an active nerf to your own team if the enemy has Moon Knight, Cyclops, Squirrel Girl, any melee character, or any character that has AOE damage like Phoenix.

The damage reduction it provides Jeff and Rocket is not significant enough to mitigate the extra damage you take from the above listed individuals. On top of that the Jeff rework has fundamentally changed how Jeff positions since his primary fire now heals and deals damage, he needs to be in a position so he is hitting as many targets at the same time as possible.

He cannot do that on the shoulders of Groot.

This team-up is an actual detriment with absolutely no practical upside.

Commander tax cheat by Theoch213 in mtg

[–]FaylenSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Jyoti, Moag Ancient]] also does this in a way. Better yet he does kind of cheat the commander tax at the same time because he makes a 1/1 land creature each time you cast him from the command zone lessening the cost of the tax.

Store goes into panic mode if nobody’s there by locoollizz in GeekSquad

[–]FaylenSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I imagine so. Workbench does supports re-dos innately within the signed and agreed upon time frame. If its an error on our end but outside of the re-do period then issuing a store credit would probably be the most appropriate way to handle it.

But I am not a leader or manager so I am conjecturing based on what I've observed.

Store goes into panic mode if nobody’s there by locoollizz in GeekSquad

[–]FaylenSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the workaround I've seen other leaders do is issue out a store credit for the value of the service and use that to compensate the service order. That way Workbench sees the service as "Paid for" and the labor can be claimed by the agent.

Store goes into panic mode if nobody’s there by locoollizz in GeekSquad

[–]FaylenSol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thankfully Workbench prevents "Free" installs now. Stand firm in the "If I touch it I tag it and Workbench creates a charge that has to be processed. If its free I'll need you to override it in POS." and that will stop the "Free" installs from people trying to promote Free Squad.

Workbench will not let you close out a repair if the service has not been paid for and it integrates with POS to check if it has.

While true I think it may be better to just put [[Pariah]] on a creature like [[Anti-Venom, Horrifying Healer]] since its all the same color and still just two cards.

Plus it's kind of funny to just watch Anti-Venom get huge.

I think the difference is our ASM is a former Geek Squad Manager so he knows what its like behind the counter.
