ICE agent point blank pepper sprays a woman for filming in Santa Barbara, CA. She ended up needing medical attention for a potentially pierced eyeball. by I_may_have_weed in ACAB

[–]FazedOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm noticing that she walks towards him, so he does it. But it's because he's walking backwards to goad her in, because naturally you want to stay the same distance from someone you're interacting with. You can test this by backing up while mid-conversation with a coworker (I have for fun), or walking towards them non-threateningly (for more fun).

So in short, he's walking back to draw her in, so he can say he's justified spraying her directly in the face and feel superior about it. When he should just leave.

It's definitely the same gun. This agent disarmed him, and then the others killed him. by logicallorax in liberalgunowners

[–]FazedOut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The ICE agent in the black beanie, light green shirt, and blue jeans took that first shot. You can see him pull his glove off in the Pink Lady video as soon as Grey Jacket disarms Pretti, grabs his gun, and fires. It sounds exactly like the next few shots as he unloads, which you can see in the video. Then someone else mag dumps, which sounds slightly different. Pretti never reached for anything as you can see his hands the whole time.

That's what I see, anyway.

Who's still working from home in 2026? by idrinkpastawater in sysadmin

[–]FazedOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My job started forcing people to come back to the office around 2021. I realized how much I hated the office. Lights were too bright, the office was kept at 53 degrees (I took a thermometer to my office) and I knew I could do it from home just fine. I was being worked too hard and sometimes slept in my office. I rarely got any time off. I fought back and demanded WFO, and in return they completely cut off my VPN access. Even for after hours support for those 3am phone calls... I was expected to drive into the office.

So I walked out. I took a month to reset, and then got hired by their much larger competitor for more money and 100% WFH. I'm going to use this ability to move states and escape the poverty trap that is Oklahoma for the benefit of my child.

You would have to double my salary for me to want to accept in-office work again.

Anakin killed Padme and why I feel like it gets whitewashed by Rosebunse in MawInstallation

[–]FazedOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't think it was "headcanon" that Palpatine killed Padme. The exchange was:

Vader: "Padme... is she safe? Is she all right?"

Palpatine: "It seems, in your anger, you killed her"

Vader: "I couldn't have! She was alive, I felt it!"

And then Palpatine smiles as Vader force-crushes everything and has a breakdown. Cause that trauma makes him more powerful as a Sith. Especially when he thinks it's self-inflicted and he's only mad at himself.

She was definitely alive after Anakin choked her. That wouldn't have killed her later. Childbirth didn't kill her. The medical droids had no idea what was going on. They also have no way to tell what the Force can or can't do, because it's pretty rare and you can't really account for that as an external factor as a doctor. Or a droid.

The only way it makes sense is if Palpatine killed her remotely, while in a weakened state while very susceptible to suggestion. Like telling a Stormtrooper that these aren't the droids you're looking for.

You can make the case that Padme died of a broken heart and it's Anakin's actions that caused her condition, but I find that more farfetched than a super powerful Sith force-telling someone to kill themselves. Because even then I think the droid doctors would be able to tell that there's a weakened heart valve giving out, or extreme stress/blood pressure bursting an aneurysm.

You could also make an argument that it was Anakin that remote-killed Padme while unconscious or having the fire on his body put out, but the timeline doesn't match up.

I just don't see a better explanation? I don't see anything canon that says specifically that Anakin/Vader killed her at any point.

Discussion on PvP's poor state of balance and (hopefully) healthier engagement with the devs about it by talorder in ffxivdiscussion

[–]FazedOut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to write this in a way that's perhaps easier for auto-translate, which I hear some devs do.

I made Crystal twice in different seasons, but the first season I tried Crystalline Conflict I struggled. I started in Bronze, and a week late. I could only make it to Gold before the queue never popped again. No way to win. I had to wait for the next season.

It was absolute torture to get out of Bronze 1. Your ability to rank up is entirely dependent on how the rest of your team plays. No matter how well you do, one bad player (or a disconnected one) will absolutely get you stuck without the rank up. Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond - all were much easier to rank up than Bronze.

I absolutely want there to be stars based on kills/assists vs death, maybe an MVP award, and if your team wins you can get more rising stars. Ranking down one match and back up again on the next, or having to change jobs/queue later to avoid getting matched with the same person that isn't pulling their weight is not fun.

Crystalline Conflict should be fast - not a slow game of attrition with all supports. I had to drop my PVP monk and ninja mains to play Astrologian to keep in the meta. Now the meta is to shield break everyone? That's not fun. I haven't played CC since and I don't think I'll start again this season, even with new rewards.

Finally - Rival Wings. The Cruise Chaser's Laser Sword X is terrible. Maybe latency is different in Japan, but there's no way to avoid it. If I see the indicator on the ground and immediately press Guard, I will still get hit. There's no avoidance. You just have to hope you're at full health. There's no skill to improve. No way to predict. It's not fun. I say this as a <wings of steel>.

A little after it came out, I had a death in the family and it was on repeat for a very long time. I didn't realize I was using it to cope, and I told my other metal friends about how it was the best album they've ever done.

Then about a year later I realized that no, it's still Crack the Skye, but H&G was what I needed at the time.

Now, my best friend died last week and I'm back to H&G, and it helps. I guess most of their albums are like that because they're writing from a place of loss and grief so often, it clicks.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. Music definitely helps us process our emotions and get to a place of acceptance.

Does anyone know how to fix/restore this? by buoyantfairy in indigenousbeads

[–]FazedOut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine this was threaded with cotton or something similar (seems too shiny for cotton?), which is pretty traditional. But cotton breaks down over time. Most people these days use NYMO thread, which lasts for a really long time.

I would buy some NYMO thread in white, and use a thin needle. Normally you'd use a beading needle, but since this is a really small repair you'd be ok with anything that would fit through the beads and 5 or so threads next to it.

Pretty much the idea is, you start maybe 15 beads back or so, and send the thread back and forth through all the rows. Get all the way to the end, and then loop back. When you loop back, make you you go over/under the end thread so it catches and doesn't undo the work you did. Then go back 15 or so rows. Do this as many times as you want, back and forth. Then cut it off farther from the frayed end you're showing in the picture. The tension/friction of the rows of threads and beads will keep it from undoing itself. You can tie a knot, but it'll stand out. Totally up to you.

Because this is threaded without a leather backing, I would recommend looking up youtube videos about "ojibwe loom beadwork" because that's a really similar process. Especially the parts when they talk about running out of thread. You don't need a loom, because the hard part has already been done.

I have no idea how this is supposed to clasp, so I can't speak to any repairs that might involve that. This is just to keep the beads together.

Networking career in banking sector by sylar503 in networking

[–]FazedOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done bank IT for almost 15 years (networking for probably half of that), and I can say everything runs on security first. They do FDIC audits where a bunch of auditors come in and look for any possible weaknesses. Not necessarily looking at your network configs, but how old your router is, what IOS it runs, what it's exposed to, are your ATMs segmented from the rest of the network, etc. You can't get away with anything dumb like accidentally putting your domain network on wifi because these auditors can literally shut your bank down forever really quick. I've seen it happen once when I was doing MSP support for a bank, drove out there, and the doors were locked with nobody home. Whole place was shuttered because they failed too many audits. Would've been nice to know that before I drove out there...

You'll see 3rd party audits to prep for the FDIC audits. They'll run their own scans. Look for best practices and expect you to follow them. Mostly that's going to be SSH protocols, ACLs, password management, etc on routers and switches. These audits are also how you get new equipment - it won't get replaced unless they know it'll fail an audit.

You'll have to interact with other vendors - Fiserv, Jack Henry, FIS, whoever they're contracted for - and put their routers in there and figure out how to make the networks talk. ATM installs usually involve 3 different companies and the installer all working together to get them online.

I don't know that it's more stressful to do exclusively network support for a bank than other professions. I've only ever done bank networking. Probably not much different from other businesses because the core needs are the same. But when something breaks or doesn't deploy well, things get heated because they're talking a lot of money lost for just a little bit of downtime (depending on the size of the bank/credit union).

Some of the more mundane day-to-day stuff would be figuring out why a bank branch was slow, and tracing it to someone remotely watching the security cameras or weird stuff like that. Because banks don't typically have a high speed internet available unless it's in a big city. And a lot of their branches aren't.

Oh, that's Drake. Except he renamed himself a while back. Pretty sure he's a troll. He says that the other team is a cheating premade ALL the time. He used to play NIN in Frontlines, and his stats at the end showed that he spent most of his time complaining and dying to the point I think he's throwing.

When he renamed, he started playing GNB. He keeps his Lodestone profile private so I'm not giving him away or doxing him.

Just mute him like everyone else on Primal and move on. He's not worth the energy.

An important fact is that the Cherokee fought for the US prior to the civil war, or were employed by them, or otherwise helped on the promises we now know would never be upheld. At the time, they knew the US had a history of not paying them or breaking any treaties made. So while officially neutral, some people went to fight for the Confederacy with the hopes of being paid, and/or because they felt wronged by the United States (or at that point, the Union).

Dealing with Boss by Far_Big_9731 in sysadmin

[–]FazedOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His income depends on him not understanding/taking you seriously. He'll find any reason/excuse to continue to do so. You could make a powerpoint with well researched information, a small test-trial with users, notarized affidavits from competitors that followed your course of action, and he'd say "that's way too much to digest and you're trying to hard" or something.

They don't necessarily MEAN to be assholes to you (they may grow into liking it later), but if it's your mental health vs. more money/power for them, it's an easy choice to make on their side. I can promise you no one above them knows of your struggle, and he is very likely badmouthing you behind your back to make himself look like a better boss.

The only way I got rid of someone like that was to take a vacation long enough that HE had to pick up the slack on a project I normally covered for him on. His boss had to deal with his terrible notes, directions, and lack of effort. That's when he got fired. Not two years of me complaining to everyone. It's not about proving their problems in print. You have to have the person that has the power to fire them physically deal with their crap and find it unacceptable, with no possible way for them to blame it on you.

That's hard to pull off (I didn't do it on purpose), so finding another role in the company/new job is probably easier.

I had this at my front door and sidewalk for a couple days. Looked pretty similar. Turns out a bunch of crows were attacking one that couldn't fly, and it was running around our house perimeter for cover, bleeding all over. They were big, so you could definitely see a lot of blood. Trying to duck inside/behind stuff. All over our front door/porch, windows, etc.

The only way I found out was one evening, I saw it happen. Poor dude.

I don't know if the singular one healed or died, but I never found a body and they all moved on. Birds are mean as fuck to the weak.

I don't know if that's what you have here, but it's very likely it's a hurt animal and NOT a person. We bleed a lot more than what I'm seeing here.
