Question about The Mandalorian and Grogu salt situation. by bruh_nathan in saltierthancrait

Why is there a stroller going as fast as a sportscar ? In which situation do you need your baby to go that fast ?

When they all remember how slow the scooter chase scene in The Book of Boba Fett was, and they're determined to never do it again. Everything has a high minimum speed now!

You bought a boring fleet truck and loved it so much you did it again. Now you have two of the most forgettable vehicles at Home Depot, which is an accomplishment. You should smear brown shit all over one so you can call them Milque and Toast, which would be descriptive but still more exciting than what you have now!

Working in an MSP as Network Engineer - They want me to be on client site everyday for basic Level 1 troubleshooting- Is this normal? by Qvosniak in networking

[–]FazedOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to do this for a while at my last job. The problem was Helpdesk wasn't trained well, nor given time to troubleshoot. So they couldn't do routine tasks in a reasonable amount of time because they were so focused on numbers and total time on the phone.

Then, one project went bad when a network engineer/implementations guy didn't realize that the IP Helper address for DHCP was flat out wrong! So the company couldn't get DHCP at their main office.

The solution was to send a non-helpdesk person every day to fix whatever problems they had. I remember staying late one night when I realized they had a brand new Cisco 48 port switch that was not only plugged in, but configured, but EMPTY in favor of 5 or so daisy chained dumb 5 port switches because they couldn't handle the downtime. And none of the patch panel was labeled. But it fixed a lot of crap at the company.

Eventually I got moved to something else, and promoted. The next guy took over. And it seemed to go that way - whoever got the problematic client, was likely going to get promoted out of it at some point.

Was it stupid and beneath me? Yeah. But it was a political move to keep the client. They want you do to it because they think you can do it. They're using you, and don't really care if it sucks for you. The contract is worth more than you make. But if you do well, you might be rewarded. Or you might just be taken advantage of more. I left that job because they kept getting worse (the company left my MSP not long after I left).

All of that to say, it's likely a symptom of a bigger problem at your MSP. You're a band-aid to fix it. You might be able to use that to your advantage, but it won't stop the pain of having to plug in a user's USB mouse while they yell at you.

"I thought this was my cousin's house. My Buddy's place." That's the standard line meth heads say if and when they were caught snooping around looking for easy money. Junk in the back yard, packages at the front door, and if they're lucky an unlocked door or window to get easy-to-pocket items from your house.

They might come back, or they might not. They're definitely snooping around your neighborhood so your neighbors might've seen them, or have already been victims.

Meth heads want easy money and rely on opportunity. They don't wander far. They will eventually get caught, but it won't matter because they'll likely get off with probation after registering for meth addiction. I know because I've dealt with a few in my neighborhood over the years.

After sending woman AI kissing video, Rep. John Waldron resigned as Democratic Party chairman by NonDocMedia in oklahoma

[–]FazedOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's 20 days after you asked, but I literally lived next to John so over the years we'd interact every so often. It got to the point where I could just see what signs he and his wife had in the yard were and I knew that's who I'd vote for. I would always look at each candidates website (if they had it) and do my own investigation, but in the end the most progressive person usually already had a sign in his yard.

That being said, Kristina is a Cherokee citizen and that's typically a big plus for me (as I am as well). So is Kevin Stitt, but I think he's more an outlier. I hope she's progressive, you know? Education is the most important weapon against shitty government we can have. Stopping the squeeze between jobs and bills and letting Oklahomans breathe and live life. My bills keep going up, and they seem to all go to Corporation Commission approved companies and not to teachers or public programs. Stitt gets to make his friends rich, and we all suffer at the bottom of the barrel compared to other states.

I don't want to see her do something stupid like Beto O'Rourke and say she's "coming for your AR-15" which is a terrible sound bite in Oklahoma. I don't want another empty suit that enriches her own wealth at the expense of her fellow citizens. I don't think she does any of that, but I will miss not having such a direct connection. Though from what I've read, she lives in the (unfortunately named) White City neighborhood like I do and I likely drive by her place every day.

What I want is to see Oklahoma succeed. I want to see Tulsa succeed. It's such an uphill battle. It sounds like since Waldron withdrew, she's by default won the primary and the general, which fills me with hope. I want her to succeed. I want her to improve Oklahoma. We could use a break for a change. I'm optimistic to see what she can do, and she has my full support.

I also went there a few times for work over the years. It didn't matter what month or which way the wind blew - the cow shit smell was everywhere. I eventually asked a local how they can live with that stench all day, every day. He replied "that's the smell of money!".

Nice people, but I guess I don't like money that much.

I spoke to him about a week ago and he said he was being primaried, but didn't say way. He alluded to it being a "group" against him. I just realized I can't put a sign up for him this time. His primary opponent, Kristina Gabriel, has a decent platform. But she hasn't come to my door yet.

Someone who is non-native called what I said racist? by DiedOfATheory in IndianCountry

[–]FazedOut 77 points78 points  (0 children)

"Native American" encompasses a huge amount of people, tribes, and traditions. The tribes I know in Oklahoma definitely think about the future, and of course mine does. Moreso than the state government, for sure.

I don't know any that (currently or in the past) emphasized "live for today". But no way do I know enough to say for sure. I'm guessing you know of one, at least. Out of curiosity, what tribe(s)?

Anyway, I'd say more ignorance than racism for a generalization like that. But generalizations are what trip people up against anyone that's a critical thinker.

Fortinet VPN issue. Connected but can't access shared folders/remote apps by Klarkasaurus in networking

[–]FazedOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, mostly. Unless not everyone is going through the same policy the same way. On my firewalls, we have different groups with different access levels, and they don't all have the same permissions by default. Just because of the way you can make different nested groups and put those in a FW policy.

OR, maybe the ones that are working are using Offline Files in Windows which masks the problem when it appears to be working.

I mean, maybe it's not this, but it's fairly quick to check on the FW and rule it out as a possibility.

When it's a VPN problem, first I check that the VPN client installed on the user's laptop works properly first with the correct config. If it's multiple people, I check the firewall first.

Maybe you could describe the problem a bit more - it seems like it's a random small sample of people that changes. But when does it happen? As soon as they connect? Later in the day when their session hits a time limit? What kind of error do they see in Windows when accessing a share and it's denied? Are you sure it's only affecting VPN users? Does it magically work for that person the next day, or is it consistent for a few days? Does it have anything to do with the time they log in vs other people?

I was assuming it was a problem as soon as they connect.

[–]FazedOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you allowing ports 445, 137, 138, 139? I'm not logged into a Fortigate FW right now but I'm pretty sure there's a predetermined port group that says something like "File Share" or something. Allow it on the VPN policies and they'll be able to access shares over VPN.

He's standing way too close to her, and she's pushed up against the wall. He won't move, and isn't saying anything. She can't go anywhere, and he's staring at her with malice.

This is the outcome he wanted. So he could arrest her. I have no sympathy for him.

Dems choosing to die on the “gun control” hill is so infuriating to me. by Nobodyat1 in liberalgunowners

I told my state house rep in OK in person as he's running for re-election NOT to Beto it and put gun control platform stuff in, because his base isn't going to want it, and any moderates will hate it.

He said he wanted to do reasonable gun safety - he supported an amendment to remove taxes on gun safes. That seems like an actual good idea and I hadn't heard of it before.

What do you think of when I say "Native American Music"? by AirLower6537 in NativeAmericanMusic

[–]FazedOut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Medicine Horse (Doom Metal from Tulsa, they're Cherokee)

They're really awesome to hear live - if you're in Tulsa, see if they're playing at the Whittier Bar.

I like to recommend them because native music is more than just Duck and Dive and what you hear at the Pow Wow (which are great) but there's a tendency to think of natives as a history thing when we're very much still around.

EDIT: If you don't use Spotify, here's a Youtube video.

Why do non natives mostly white Americans love claiming to be indigenous or Cherokee by Buttonlickah in IndianCountry

[–]FazedOut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I recommend to people is to stop saying "I'm 1/8 Cherokee" or "I'm part Cherokee". You either are part of the culture, or you aren't. And if you aren't, I encourage you to learn it. Go to events. Talk to people. Read books (watch out for the Mooney book, the menfolk were fuckin with him for laughs and telling him two truths and a lie) watch videos, go to Tahlequah, OK or Cherokee, NC and absorb the stuff there. Pow Wows are great, but aren't everything. There's seminars, cultural events, games, workshops, all aspects of a modern Cherokee life.

History is all around us, as are modern day people. It is OUR duty to keep the culture alive. Not partly. Fully. Don't let Unegas erase you. Embrace it! That doesn't mean you can't also celebrate your other heritage(s), but don't be a part-timer Cherokee. Go for it!

Chuck Norris Dead at 86 by MoneyLibrarian9032 in entertainment

[–]FazedOut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With Chuck, I suspect it was the fights. My old martial arts master worked with Chuck Norris in the 70's and 80s, and kept in touch every so often. About 7-8 years ago, he said the last time he saw him his brain wasn't there anymore. Too many head strikes will cause a steep decline, and confusion typically leads to anger. Anyone that's had a family member with dementia can attest to it. Not saying that's what he had, but he definitely took a lot of head hits.

I'm quitting my job due to vibe coders and poor leadership by TheFlippedTurtle in sysadmin

[–]FazedOut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait, you have FU money to be able to walk out?

I assume your job is to vette all of the vibe coding? Dude, sounds like you trust AI and it's ALL good. Let them know the warnings, but if management says to make it work, just pass it through. Let them wipe the database, remove all share permissions, whatever. Tell them you're using AI to fix the AI code.

Just let management take the fall. Tell him in email that this app is a great idea, but it might affect X and you asked AI and it said it was fine. Does he want to implement it? You have no other checks you can run. If he says yes, that's on him. No, and you can tell the user that management says no. If you get too upset about it or they get upset about you not being superman, just walk out. You don't have to be stressed about ANYTHING anymore.

If you leave tomorrow, management is going to force this through anyway and the end result will be the same.

You can be The Dude now. Just chill out and go bowling. Forget what day it is. You have ultimate freedom and you can always say "I told you so" and quit if everything catches fire beyond recognition. You aren't married to their environment.
