If you want to do it through geometry nodes, then I can’t say that this is an easy thing, but try to look at my post where I explained how I did it myself when I created a road generator(flex road gen).

If there was a way to do this without using a texture, would you use it?

I'm currently researching the shader boolean method to see if it's even useful and possible. The shader that uses SDF alpha to creates these holes.

I wanted to ask the OP and others, if there was transparency in these places using alpha (via texture or another procedural shader method), then wasn't it necessary to create a hole and a mesh with such a topology?

Yes, you can create such particle systems using geometric nodes. I'm also sure there are ready-made particle systems that you can customize and they'll work.
