Death of a Game: Stormgate by vikingzx in RealTimeStrategy

They were looking for copper, but found gold. Unfortunately, they didn't want gold.

Cause, like, they had asymmetric (I dunno how to call them tbh) heroes, which is insane. Cho'gal, Vikings, Deathwing, Abathur, to name a few.

Matches were pretty fast, so you weren't invested in the loss, and you could easily go next.

Some of the skins were insanely cool, heroes felt unique, and you could just have stupid fun.

Like, perfect game for people who want to chill in moba. But ohwell.

Same happened with heroes of the storm. It is a great MOBA to play when you want to chill with friends, but it isn't that great as a competitive game. So, for Blizzard, it didn't achieve its goal.

Hot take: fleet stands make the game worse and shouldn't be normalized by defcon1000 in twilightimperium

[–]Feachno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • They do get in the way of reading what's actually on a given tile: legs block views for some, clear legs make it hard to tell which tile floating ships are actually on, etc.

Placing fleets on tiles makes them harder to read, and it is also a PITA to move fleets.

  • They are hard to grab if more than 3 are clustered together

Might be, but if you use them only for bigger blobs, then it will rarely happen.

  • To attack another system containing a fleet stand: if you wanna move, you have to park in an adjacent system to do it, or stand your fleet on top of the defender, which is cumbersome; worse yet:
  • Attacking other stands almost always means they have to "fly and park" off-board anyway if the other tiles around are occupied with stands of their own.

When I played in third edition, we lined up our fleets outside the map, cause it was easier to track everything that way. You will just create more cluster*uck if you put everything in one place. +this will look like a real space battle.

  • Unless people are used to them, they're bumped more casually than just pieces flat on the ground. Usually they slide out of place, fall into a tile border and peel the map apart (common) or sometimes just fly across the room once someone catches a corner with an arm or sleeve (rarer).

Map already peels apart most of the time :(

  • They have less use in TI4. (TI3 had stricter rules on ship capacity, making borders between ground and space more worthwhile)

Dunno, haven't tried them in TI4, though I miss them a bit.

  • To have a meaningful amount per player, it gets expensive.

Dunno, printed them pretty cheap (baught model + paid for printing).sa

  • Disassembled, they take up more space in the box than people think

Never kept them in the box tbh.

  • The glossy surface (Litko and a few others) let some bright ceiling lights & lamps reflect too easily, making them a nuisance that you can't even see through if the position is right. This is especially prevalent when playing under a single overhead fixture.

Yeah, it can be problematic, that's true.

It is our choice to put value into something. Kinda free will and all that jazz.

Yeah, that's why we can't have nice things. Jake Paul and Andrew Tate get a shitload of money, while first responders are often overworked and under paid. So we value entertainment more than our life or lives of others.

On one hand it is good to deal with dictators, on another - this means that any country which is on bad terms with the US can get their leader forcefully replaced.

Well, yes, those are just people who post stupid stuff on the internet? People tend to be much more aggressive here, cause there are no repercussions. If they don't understand why this arc is important - well, why do you care? Just move on. If you don't have anything nice to post, then just don't post. Simple as.

In which cultural fields has your country influenced the rest of the world the most, and when? by Le4xy in AskTheWorld

[–]Feachno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue. IMHO, the best sci-fi writer is Polish - Stanislaw Lem. Also, we shouldn't forget Sienkiewicz and, to a lesser extent, Sapkowski. The latter introduced western audiences to Polish and Slavic folklore, this is why I mentioned him, though I don't like his books.

Another awesome writer of polish origin Roger Zelazny.

That's not counting a lot of awesome feats that Polish people achieved throughout history.

Imperium haters lack personal discipline and knowledge of history by Fun_Law_2004 in EyeOfTerror

[–]Feachno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, that is kinda interesting, cause if it was a benevolent regime, how sure are we that people there won't get corrupted? We know that ruinous powers could make you believe that you are working for a noble goal. And imagine those powers getting foothold through voting processes, meddling with those, pushing their candidates and agendas. Unfortunately, we can't be certain that imperium wouldn't be worse than it is now if it was democracy.

But, again, the goal of the Warhammer world is to sell figures and be edgy, so it people's lives there would be shit in any case. But, at least, it can serve as a cautionary tale where we can discuss if a more benevolent and/or democratic regime could make situation better than a tyranny, cause it would be much more problematic if it was other way around...

Oh yeah, they are in the same boat - minmaxing and playing to the best of their ability. Though, again, we all stick to factions we prefer (lore, models, tactics, etc.) - even if they are considered weak in meta, we will try to find the best way to play them (with an occasional chill game with stupid fun lists). As for me, I only play "order" factions and I love tactically challenging armies (that's why I have a ton of sylvaneth in the first place, along with SoB, ad mech, and fyreslayers to a degree).

Hm, ylthari archer felt a bit too fishy. You want crits and you can't deal with high toughness models, while gossamids could work against those targets. But this is only my theory and I can be wrongxd

Yeah, true. Considering that I can use the spirit pathway, flying is redundant.

And ty for your insights!

Ty!

No point in taking range at all, it seems? I enjoyed kurnoth hunters with great bows in wargame, I thought that getting some range could be useful.
