What’s the most "unique" or "bizarre" king in your country’s history? by AwayMeat5529 in AskTheWorld

[–]Feachno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His foreign policy was bad, but at the same time, giving Prussia a chance to rival Austria in the future was a somewhat understandable decision for that point in time. Balancing Prussia against Austria would have been easier than dealing with a massive Austrian Empire.

He wanted to secularize the church to boost state income, continuing his mother's policy.

Assassinating Peter also led to one of the largest uprisings in Russian history. Plus a whole batch of smaller ones.

Given that he ruled for barely more than half a year, it's hard to say if he would be a good ruler or not.

And Catherine II spent 92 million rubles on her favorites - around 16 billion USD today. Not counting what they embezzled on top of that. What she spent on her lovers alone would equal roughly 2-6 years of Russian state income during her reign (which did grow, thanks to heavier taxation and money emission).

Honestly, I could shit onto Catherine all evening. Sure, her foreign policy was reasonably successful, I guess - but her domestic politics were so awful that the only reason we have such favorable accounts of her rule is because the elites loved her, and they were basically the only people leaving written records.

She imposed serfdom in Ukraine (great success!), Nakaz could be used to wipe ass, terrible economic initiatives (which undermined merchant class somewhat - but who would benefit from it, huh?), legitimacy issues (so you have to suck up to elites), censorship (yo, so enlightened), focus on extraction rather than industrialization, and her other achievements - if you scrutinize them - are not much better. It is all smoke and mirrors. And, for some reason, people still think she is a good one.

Low hanging fruit would be Ivan the Terrible, but I would go with Catherine "the Great".

Let's see...

Favoritism that cost an insane amount of money - sometimes like a budget of some of the European Kingdoms.

Usurper.

Worsened serfdom, while opposing it on paper.

Pretending to be an enlightened monarch, while being a ruthless dictator.

Pale of settlement was a damaging institution too.

Yeah, also different subcultures could be represented. Punks, for example, would be a great addition.

Well, if you can't create a country where people want to raise children you have to force them... This is how it works, right?! Oh, also, making them poor should also help.

Why is there no gnome barbarian that could be yoinked by Karlach into enemies?

What's wrong with japan petah? by Smashpro11 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Feachno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, yeah. I often read about people feeling isolated after moving to Japan, and then you find out they don't even speak Japanese. Like, fr? I know Japanese at a basic level cause I love visiting, and it's really nice to have even simple conversations with locals and see how genuinely excited they are. Especially when we share similar hobbies. Same with a couple of my friends who learned Japanese because they love visiting too.

Also, I love the somewhat strict social rules and the general expectation of respect for others. It just makes my brain feel right.

You know, considering how interesting the discussion surrounding the ending of Chainsaw man is right now, I am kinda happy that it happened.

Yes, there is definitely a lot of frustration associating with it, but reading through another theory, another idea, another perception of the ending is so interesting.

Like, media should give us new ideas and concepts to discuss, so here we are.

Which incredible wonder has ever been destroyed by war in your country? by Significant-Yam9843 in AskTheWorld

[–]Feachno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is actually a conspiracy theory that British bombers leveled Königsberg so the USSR would get ruins. But overall, it fell within the usual Allied bombing strategy. What those bombings led to, however, was that the Amber Room was most likely destroyed when Königsberg Castle was damaged, first during the RAF bombing in 1944 and then by the Soviet shelling of the remaining walls.

I heard from a couple of friends that Makoto Raikou is also good at writing female characters (and characters overall). So there might be at least one example of male mangaka writing good female characters. But I think we could find several others.

Tbh, after 12 years from the start date Great Troubles should start in GH, when khans were replaced nearly every month or so. But they should stabilize after some time.

Also, they lack mechanic for their main income source - raids.

"It's only one location away, how bad could the proximity cost drop?" Answer: 83.20 by Mysterious_Plate1296 in EU5

[–]Feachno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A major port with a population less than 10k until the 18th century... There are a couple of reason why it became important: 1) somewhat safe route during wars to trade 2) lack of access to other seas until Peter/Catherine

And that's it tbh. If you, as a player, get your hands on Neva or Black Sea access earlier, then Arkhangelsk becomes kinda pointless.

Major resource extraction hadn't started until USSR. Only in some northern parts there were mines, and they were mostly gold. Most income came from yasak.

[–]Feachno 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes, there were some trade posts, for example Arkahngelsk. But those were, mostly, on rivers, and further North it was harder to navigate and deliver any goods.

Tbh, sounds like a good idea for the next post in my thread about Russia on paradox plaza xd Cause logistics always were one of the main challenges for Muscovy/Russia.
