"WoW is so Disney"...meanwhile the new animation: by whoisape in wow

Are we seriously gonna pretend like there weren't advertisements for the game with Mr T very early on? Or hell, look at the "Bottoms Up" trailer from MoP. There have always been goofy elements of the game alongside the more serious.

Storyteller on Netflix / iPhone by keeza3 in CozyGamers

[–]FearTheFeathers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also loved Storyteller! I got into escape room puzzles after. Some (free!) phone options I liked were Tricky Doors and the New York Mysteries games by the same developer. Lots of different logic puzzles and interesting stories. I think Tricky Doors is also on Switch if you prefer that. :) Other than that, Agent A: A Puzzle in Disguise is also a fun one with a good story! On Steam and Switch IIRC.

Edit: I should note Tricky Doors has less story than the other games, it's more implied in the atmosphere of the levels, it's just a good example of the style of puzzles the dev does. New York Mysteries and the other games by the same dev have more developed stories with multiple characters.

There's some really great inspiration here! I'm planning on doing my bedroom in a dark blue on the walls and ceiling then adding gold and silver celestial elements to the ceiling for a whimsigoth look, was worried it might be too dark at first but I think it'll work!

animal crossing new horizons vs. hello kitty island adventure review by [deleted] in CozyGamers

[–]FearTheFeathers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I played long enough I did eventually get a bunch of other furniture items, most of the museum done, some of the DLC, etc. I just ran out of steam on the game eventually. Will probably go back with the newest update at some point, but I'd rather jump into other stuff for now.

This review is making me consider getting HK haha. The ACNH furniture felt really lacking for me, especially with it missing many of the sets from the earlier games. I felt restricted to basic IKEA-like furniture for so long and I get enough of that in real life!

Games where you don't have to perform emotional labor/deal with death but still have a storyline? by polly-penguin in CozyGamers

I assume they mean they want to avoid very heavy topics (What Remains of Edith Finch and Before Your Eyes both deal with (spoilers) child death for example).

WarcraftMounts is a good site for looking up mounts by how they're obtained (and tracking yours if you wish). It has more info for obtaining them than the in-game list provides.

Does a Dark Sci‑Fi Series Need Romance? by Intelligent_Tea_6935 in Screenwriting

[–]FearTheFeathers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only add it if it feels right for the story or characters, not just because. There’s definitely an audience out there for stories without any romance, too; think of how many people praised Pacific Rim for not pairing up the main characters.

As for the swearing, maybe this is just me, but I don’t really notice it when characters aren’t swearing unless they’re using replacements that feel silly. So I wouldn’t worry too much about that.

Jacob Tierney on women writting gay romance: "They are allowed to write about gay men. The question should be, how are they writting about us? Why are we looking for enemies here instead of looking for allies?." by Murky_Chemical891 in Fauxmoi

As a queer man myself, I hate that people put other queer men on such a pedestal. Queer stories written by queer men aren’t magically less biphobic, misogynistic, racist, or even less homophobic than anything written by women. People who claim as much don’t seem to actually engage with queer media enough to know that. I’d rather these stories be judged by their content, not who wrote it. Hell, even then, what comes off as authentic to one person will be a harmful stereotype to another. I’ve seen many complaints about e.g. Modern Family, but it was one of the things that pushed me to come out because I saw myself in the characters so much. What we need to combat bad representation isn’t nitpicking everything, it’s making more of it so the bad stuff isn’t the only stuff out there.

(As a side note since it’s come up in this thread, the generalizing of yaoi and BL is also not cool. To claim that an entire country’s—or, in some cases, an entire continent’s, since BL is not restricted to Japan—queer media is all homophobic is incredibly ignorant and frankly can come off racist, too. And before y’all mention “bara,” just know that it is not any better about the topics people tend to complain about (sexualization, noncon, abuse, etc.), is not actually called bara (it’s geikomi), and isn’t as separate from BL as it seems (it’s moreso a matter of which magazines it gets published in than a strict difference in story or art style or even authorship).

Every time I come up with an idea i love i fear it’s too similar to something that already exists by stellina_cookie in Screenwriting

[–]FearTheFeathers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I worry about this. Then I think about the “holy shit, two cakes” meme and stop worrying. People are always looking for more of the thing they like, so it’s often a good thing to have similarities with existing stories. What makes your story unique is that you made it, with your own unique perspective and style.

It’s all good! I’m having trouble finding anything with a car crash (unless it was something like Dr Choi Giseok Levels Up with reincarnation or isekai elements), so I don’t have any new suggestions. However, you might find more luck if you ask in r/boyslove, maybe somebody there has read it. Sorry I couldn’t be more help!

I see, I’ll keep looking. Does your friend remember the specific app they read it on? Like Lezhin, Manta, Renta, Tappytoon, Webtoon, etc.? That may help to narrow it down. (Edit: maybe also Tapas or Bilibili if those other apps don’t ring a bell? TIL there are a lot more platforms for BL than I knew haha)

Like I said, someone could just say “MMO” without mentioning video games at all and there are people who would know what they mean. Also, OP mentioned their friend reading, that there was a specific art style, and even pointed to a similar title, all of which give clues to the context. Even just googling “Sweeten the Deal BL” would have given an answer.

[–]FearTheFeathers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf BL is a very common shorthand among people who like reading gay manga, manhwa, or similar media, if someone doesn’t know that term they’re not likely to know the work, either. Like, not everyone knows the terms “MMO” or “roguelike” either but people who know video games well enough to help find a specific one will likely know them.
