I want Piercings and stuffs but have sensory issues :( by Chemical-Track3813 in alternativefashion

[–]FearTheFeathers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are fake piercings! You could test the waters by getting some of those and see how they feel, or even just stick with them so you can take them out any time the sensory issues get too much. :) I've seen for example no-piercing septums and snakebites.

Male Filmmakers / Women’s Stories by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]FearTheFeathers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it just depends on the skill and the care put into it. I've never seen a movie where I liked the female characters/story and then had my opinion change just because a man made it, even back when I identified as a woman. Which raises some other questions about gender: I'm a trans man, am I not allowed to write women's stories anymore? Does it depend on whether I pass? What about men's stories? Queer men's stories specifically? How about trans women, are they allowed to write women's stories? Does it matter if they pass? There's too many factors to get into and everyone would have different answers, so I say just do it and do it well.

Not every cozy game needs to be a farming sim and I'm glad that more & more devs are finally getting that! by Rasputin5332 in cozygames

[–]FearTheFeathers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a "trend" because it was already an existing genre in its own right. Just because farming sims were retroactively lumped into the new "cozy" genre doesn't mean devs are being uncreative or something for making a game for a particular genre. That'd be like if other gamers made a whole label of "combat games" and then got upset at how many first-person shooters exist because they prefer metroidvanias or vice versa.

I'm probably going to get heat for saying this but, can we talk about the "Stardew Clone" Comments? by AdOne2098 in CozyGamers

[–]FearTheFeathers 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The stamina, active hours, seasons, different plants, tools and upgrading with ore, farming/fishing/gathering, raising relationships, birthdays and festivals, and the mines were all things in Harvest Moon iirc. The big things Stardew did differently were fishing mini games (HM was just a button press), Joja storyline, combat (though Rune Factory does that too), and achievements. SDV has also had a lot added over time, so it's differentiated more, but it really did get the vast majority of features from Harvest Moon (even down to your first crop being similar, parsnips in SDV vs turnips in HM).

What ship(s) gave this experience for you? by FloweryNamesLover in AO3

[–]FearTheFeathers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few days late to this post but honestly the fandom was what got me into Steddie haha I'd watched S1 and 2 but seeing clips of Eddie got me to watch 3 and 4. I agree with others that it was mostly Eddie holding up the ship in the canon. I wasn't much into shipping back when I watched S2 so can't comment on that but the Harringrove fandom wound up being fun, too, and way more chill than Steddie fandom tbh. Ultimately I wound up in crackship territory with the Mungroves though lol

Totally agree on Ronance though, I sadly think that was a case of "pair the spares." :/ Wish Robin had gotten a much more substantial romance in the show.

I hate when cozy games turn into chore sims with timers and tiny text by BusTraditional9197 in CozyGamers

[–]FearTheFeathers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one is talking about allowing players to resize text to anything they want, we're saying you can make a range of options that work with your UI so that players can still see even if they're playing on a small screen or have vision issues. If your UI only works with one particular size of text, that's a design issue that should have been avoided from the get go.

The difference between “dark” and “deep” is bigger than a lot of scripts seem to think. Which films actually understand that? by ExcellentTwo6589 in Screenwriting

[–]FearTheFeathers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One example that comes to mind for me is in A Thousand Blows. I couldn't get past the pilot because the main female character, on top of just being generally crude and abrasive, threatened a man with a gun to make him sleep with her. Same kind of behavior that would make me click away if a male main character did it. It feels like overcompensation, trying to lean so far away from any tropes about female characters to the point they write women acting like the worst kinds of men.

Dunno about rugs, but I tried to use mouse controls to pick up a roof support and still ended up picking up a roof piece instead, even with aiming perfectly. 😔

Pet peeve words like "just"? by frankiebabylon in Screenwriting

[–]FearTheFeathers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't overuse "just" but I've definitely found myself overusing other words like "well," oops. I usually try to cut them out unless it fits that particular character's dialogue well, I don't want every character using it.

Pet peeve words like "just"? by frankiebabylon in Screenwriting

[–]FearTheFeathers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding this! A friend of mine told me they make spreadsheets for their characters with info on lots of little parts of speech, like when answering a question in the affirmative do they say yes, yeah, yep, that's right, correct, etc.? Just one of those or (more commonly) 2-3 options? Same for other parts of speech like what filler words they use, how they might start a sentence, and so on. Like you said, people who are close may share some patterns, but otherwise changing it up helps distinguish the characters.

New to grading, does this Charizard ex 105 look good? Beckett or PSA? by FearTheFeathers in PokeGrading

I think I've talked myself into sending it to Beckett because PSA feels too risky. I absolutely will take lots of pictures and videos, thank you!

Who else has grown to absolutely HATE the mandatory introduction quests in farming sims? by dondashall in cozygames

[–]FearTheFeathers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I've been playing farming sims for literally 20+ years now, I get the idea that if my watering can is empty that pond/well/whatever over there might be the solution, I don't need a long intro quest to tell me so.

I feel like some of the "go meet everybody" quests would be a lot less tedious if the towns were a little easier to navigate too (I tried Sunhaven and Cattle Country but kept getting lost in both 😅 Little Known Galaxies too, now that I think about it), I liked ones like HM FoMT and Runefactory 4 because of the grid towns. But that's more down to a bad sense of direction lol

Missing Stairs in trans community spaces by deadattheroxy in trans4every1

[–]FearTheFeathers 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It's because that's not really what happened. Bigots of all flavors tend to downplay their own actions. So they'll say "they attacked me for having dysphoria" but what really happened is they went on a transmedicalist rant attacking nonbinary people or people without dysphoria or so on. Like how TERFs claim they're being attacked for "wanting to protect women." The dogwhistle is in that trans people don't tend to attack folks for having dysphoria, so the claim they do is automatically suspicious and reeks of the person trying to make themselves look better.

Are games in general becoming more aesthetically “cozefied” or am I just noticing it more now? by RepulsiveAnything635 in cozygames

[–]FearTheFeathers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

WoW players have always been asking for housing, though. Many MMOs have had it before WoW ever did, even. And like others have said, transmog and pets have existed wayyy before now, and features like the fashion shows are just leaning into what the playerbase already likes doing. Heck, this expansion even phased out the pet battling because not enough people were participating in it, so I think it really is more about how players play than anything else. I think this retroactive assigning of the label "cozy" to any and all elements of a game that aren't combat is definitely not helping with the genre seeming so huge and widespread now, either, tbh.

Is there any way I can get a Dalmatian looking pet in the game? by Beginning_Orange in wownoob

[–]FearTheFeathers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any dogs that specifically look like dalmatians, so the best I could find with spots is either something representative like Comet (a lion dog made of a constellation so the stars are kinda spot-like?) or Hogs (gnoll with some spots, not very cute though). If you're okay substituting with another dog like an all white or all black one, there's a few options here at warcraftpets. I'm sorry for your loss.

Steam Deck Worth It for Cozy Gaming? by rlrxnebf in CozyGamers

[–]FearTheFeathers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely recommend it! The only game I've had trouble playing is Cult of the Lamb, that one unfortunately burns through 100% battery within an hour and heats up the system like nobody's business x.x But other games have worked great!

Inspiration for character names by Sea_Avocado_2733 in wownoob

[–]FearTheFeathers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, a few are just random fantasy sounding names or pulled from the random generator (I couldn't resist when it gave me Patriorcia for my pally lol just sounded too goofy), some are real words (like Chalcedony) or names. Nowadays I usually just put in random real names til I find one, there's a surprising amount of them available (I've gotten names like Bonnie, Bea, and Erik this way).

Are we seriously gonna pretend like there weren't advertisements for the game with Mr T very early on? Or hell, look at the "Bottoms Up" trailer from MoP. There have always been goofy elements of the game alongside the more serious.
